HUNTINGDON 27, CLEARFIELD 21

CLEARFIELD – Kyle Kyper’s 12-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter lifted Huntingdon to a 27-21 win over Clearfield (4-2) Friday night in Clearfield.

The game was tied at 21 at halftime but a steady rain kept the offenses down in the second half.

Andrew Janocko threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third to lead Clearfield. He was 13 of 33 passing for 234 yards. Beau Ryan had three catches for 94 yards and a touchdown, while Curtis Campman had three grabs for 54 yards and a score.

Kyper was 7 of 18 passing for 175 yards and two touchdowns to lead Huntingdon, while Bucky Culbertson rand 23 times for 146 yards including 97 in the second half.

With the loss, Clearfield is in danger of losing three regular-season games for the first time since going 6-5 overall (6-4 in the regular season) in 1996.

PORT ALLEGANY 43, OTTO-ELDRED 7

DUKE CENTER – Cody Anderson ran 16 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns to lead Port Allegany to a 43-7 win over Otto-Eldred Friday night at Otto.

With the win, Port Allegany (5-1) clinched a District 9 Class A playoff berth.

Nick Nichols added seven carries for 48 yards and a touchdown for the Gators, while Port’s defense forced six turnovers (5 interceptions and a fumble) and scored on a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by R.J. Shively. Willie Bova also intercepted two passes for the Terrors including one in the end zone near the end of the first half.

Bova had a nice game on offensive as well going 6-for-7 passing for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

Otto’s lone touchdown came on a 31-yard halfback option touchdown pass from Chad Bova to Kyle Armstrong.

Bova had a nice game for the Terrors (2-4) rushing seven times for 31 yards, catching five passes for 48 yards and going 1-for-1 passing for 31 yards and the touchdown.

KANE 32, BROCKWAY 22

BROCKWAY – Kyle Oakes ran 25 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns while also returning a kickoff for a touchdown to lead Kane (3-3) to a 32-22 win at Brockway (3-3) Friday night. 

Kane led 7-0 at halftime before out scoring Brockway 25-22 in a wild second half.

The biggest play of the game might have come midway through the third quarter after Brockway had cut Kane’s lead to 7-6 on a 12-yard pass from Anthony Varischetti to Joe Antonuccio. On the ensuing kickoff, Oakes went 83 yards for a touchdown to give the Wolves a one touchdown lead. That kicked off a 19-0 Kane run with Oakes scoring two more touchdowns giving the Wolves a 26-6 lead with 10 minutes to play.

Brockway cut the lead to four points with 5:18 to play on a 66-yard pass from Varischetti to Matt Taylor and a 2-yard Varischetti run, but Zach Anderson’s 37-yard touchdown pass to John Bizzak with 3:16 to play put the game away.

Anderson had a nice night going 11 of 15 passing for 133 yards and the touchdown.

Varischetti, who worked from the shot gun for parts of the game, was 13 of 24 passing for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 10 times for 54 yards and a score.

CURWENSVILLE 55, RIDGWAY 7

CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville continued it offensive explosion against the weaker half of the AML knocking off Ridgway 55-7 Friday night in Curwensville.

The Golden Tide (5-1) have now won three straight games outscoring their opponents 167-33, although those opponents are a combined 3-15 while allowing a combined average of 35.6 points per game.

Nick Sipes had a huge night for Curwensville rushing 16 times for 200 yards and five touchdowns. Shawn Sopic added four carries for 26 yards and a touchdown while going 2 of 6 passing for 47 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Cody Botzman caught the scoring pass.

Jake Havens had Ridgway’s lone touchdown.

JOHNSONBURG 20, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 14

ST. MARYS – Anthony Imbrogno hit T.S. Launer with a 10-yard pass with 1:42 lef tin the game to lift Johnsonburg to a 20-14 win over Elk County Catholic in a key AML South match-up Friday night in St. Marys.

The game was a back-and-forth affair throughout with Johnsonburg (4-2) never trailing, but ECC (4-2) rallying for one-touchdown deficits twice.

The game was tied at 6-6 at halftime with J-burg scoring on a 4-yard Josh Feronti run in the first quarter, and ECC answering with a 15-yard pass from Kyle Mahoney to Kevin Genevro in the second quarter.

Calvin Grumley had a 33-yard run in the third quarter to put the Rams ahead 14-6, but ECC answered with a 3-yard Alex Lecker run late in the quarter to tie the game again.

The stats were very even with ECC having 14 first downs to Johnsonburg’s 13, while the Rams out gained the Crusaders 271-245.

Grumley, returning after missing last week’s game with an injury, ran 15 times for 89 yards and caught two passes for 29 yards, while Launder added 13 carries for 55 and Feronti 15 for 72.

Mahoney paced ECC going 11 of 16 passing for 126 yards, one touchdown and one interception while also running nine times for 24 yards.

CAMERON COUNTY 49, SHEFFIELD 0

EMPORIUM – Cameron County won for the second time in four weeks with an easy 49-0 win over visiting Sheffield Friday night.

The 49 points were the most scored by the Red Raiders (2-4) since they scored 49 in a 49-7 win over Elk County Christian (now Catholic) Oct. 15,1999. The last time Cameron scored more than 49 points was Oct. 1, 1999, in a 72-6 win over Ridgway. This is the first time the Red Raiders have won more than one game in a season since going 3-6 in 2002.

John Malizia led the way for Cameron rushing six times for 102 yards and three touchdowns and had one catch for 15 yards. Cash Grimone added 12 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown while catching one pass for four yards and a score.

Sheffield managed just 38 yards of offense and two first downs on the night.

BROOKVILLE 15, BRADFORD 14

BROOKVILLE – Brookville eked out a 15-14 win over Bradford in D9 League action Friday night in Brookville.

The Raiders (2-4 overall, 1-3 D9 League) put the winning points on the scoreboard late in the third quarter following a Bradford (2-4, 2-2) fumble deep in its own territory.

Brookville’s Matt Berfield scooped up the fumble at the Bradford 29 and returned it to the 8. Three plays later, Joe Galbraith scored from three yards out to cut a Bradford lead to 14-13 with 3:47 left in the quarter. Galbraith then scored on the two-point conversion from the quarterback position.

Bradford’s best chance to retake the lead came on its first possession after the Galbraith touchdown, but a 39-yard field goal by Steve Butler was short and to the right.

Galbraith also came up with the game-sealing interception when he picked off a Ben Walter pass deep in Bradford territory with 1:29 to play and returned it to the 2-yard line. Brookville then did the sportsmanlike-thing and kneeled three times to kill the clock.

Bradford’s scores came on a 37-yard run by Josh Holleran and a 3-yard tote by Nick Johnson in the first half.

Brookville’s first score was a 2-yard Galbraith run in the first quarter.

Max Kutz rushed 17 times for 72 yards for Brookville, while Galbraith had 12 carries for 40 yards and also had an interception on defense.

Holleran ran eight times for 68 yards to lead Bradford.

LEWISTOWN 46, PUNXSUTAWNEY 19

LEWISTOWN – Behind big games from Mike Baker and Chris Tressler, Lewistown knocked off winless Punxsutawney 46-19 Friday night in Lewistown.

Baker caught four passes for 136 yards and three scores, while Tressler ran for 127 yards and one touchdowns, threw two touchdown passes on halfback options and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the game for Lewistown (3-3 overall, 1-2 MAC-7 Mts. Division), who is 3-3 after six games for the first time since 1993.

Lewistown built a 34-0 lead after three quarters before Punxsutawney (0-6, 0-4) scored three times in the fourth quarter

The Chucks had a couple of golden opportunities to stay in the game early but failed to convert two Lewistown fumbles in Panther territory into any points.

COUDERSPORT 42, SMETHPORT 0

COUDERSPORT – Coudersport’s defense held Smethport to 59 total yards, while David Babcock ran 23 times for 152 yards and four touchdowns to lead Coudy to a 42-0 win over rival Smethport Friday night in Coudersport.

The Falcons (6-0), who clinched a District 9 Class A playoff berth with the win, have now won five straight over the Hubbers matching their longest win streak in the series, which Smethport (2-4) leads 57-37-4. The 42-point margin of victory was the fourth largest in the series history by Coudersport and the Falcons largest since a 44-point win (52-8) in 1977. Coudy also won by 62 points (62-0) and 50 points (56-6) in 1921.

Coudersport had 15 first downs to 4 by Smethport while gaining 279 yards.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 29, KEYSTONE 27

STRATTANVILLE – Scott Davis accounted for 103 percent of Clarion-Limestone’s offense in a 29-27 Lion win over visiting Keystone Friday night.

Yes that does say 103 percent. Davis accounted for 442 yards on the night while the rest of the Lions had negative 13 to account for 429 on the night for C-L (6-0, 4-0 KSAC), which clinched a District 9 Class A playoff berth with the win.

It is the fourth time this season that a C-L game has been decided by one score or less with the Lions wining all four games by a combined total of 12 points.

Davis was 16 of 22 passing for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception while running 30 times for 232 yards and two touchdowns.

Led by Davis, C-L held a 29-20 lead until late in the fourth quarter when Keystone (1-5, 1-5) scored on a 7-yard pass from Mike Switzer to Corey Lee with 1:40 to play.

The Panthers then tried an on-side kick, but the ball went just a couple of yards giving C-L possession and the win.

C-L dominated the stat sheet out gaining Keystone 429 to 211, but Switzer’s arm kept the Panthers in the game.

The sophomore was 13 of 25 for 181 yards and four touchdowns.

David Brooks led C-L’s receiving corps with eight catches for 102 yards while also running for a touchdown.

Kyle McMunn had seven catches for 131 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Panther receivers.

MONITEAU 21, BALD EAGLE AREA 6

WINGATE – Matt Schandelmeier ran 19 times for 108 yards while also returning a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown to lead Moniteau to a 21-6 win over Bald Eagle Area Friday night at Bald Eagle.

Adam Cousins added 15 totes for 62 yards, while Josh Loos scored a rushing touchdown and Garth Kohlmeyer fired a touchdown pass to Ryan Protzman for the Warriors (4-2), who have won four straight.

A-C VALLEY 26, UNION 13

FOXBURG – A-C Valley broke its 24-quarter offensive scoreless streak dating back to last season while extending Union’s District-9 leading losing streak to 27 games with a 26-13 win at A-C Valley Friday night.

The Falcons (1-4 overall, 1-3 KSAC) hadn’t scored an offensive touchdown since the fourth quarter of Week 7 against Karns City last season before Brad Rembold found the end zone on a 75-yard run with 2:13 left in the first quarter.

A-C Valley upped its lead to 13-0 without the benefit of an offensive touchdown when Keith Yute blocked a Union punt and Jerad Burrown recovered it for a touchdown in the second quarter,

Union cut the lead to 13-7 on a 6-yard Colton Davis run late in the first half, but a failed on-side kick attempt by the Golden Knights set A-C Valley up at its own 49.

That led to 38-yard touchdown pass from Rembold to Rocco Crapis making it 19-7.

The Golden Knights cut the lead to 19-13 on the last play of the first half when Toby Painter hit Nate Boltz with a 34-yard touchdown pass.

But late in the third quarter, A-C Valley’s Adam Bell blocked a punt that set the Falcons up at the Union 1-yard line. It was the third punt Union has had blocked in the past two weeks. Crapis and the offense took advantage of the great field position with the senior scoring on a 1-yard run.

Rembold rushed 11 times for 77 yards to lead A-C Valley, while Craps had 20 carries for 73 yards,

Davis ran 16 times for 79 yards to pace Union.
