CURWENSVILLE 28, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6

ST. MARYS – Nick Sipes ran 28 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead Curwensville to a 28-6 win at Elk County Catholic Saturday night.

With the victory the Golden Tide (7-1) clinched their second straight AML South title. Curwensville will defend its AML Title Saturday when its hosts Coudersport in a rematch of last year’s AML Title game.

Sipes scored on runs of 3 and five yards helping Curwensville build a 28-0 halftime lead.

Philip Solley added 12 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown, while Shawn Sopic was 4 of 9 passing for 97 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. He also intercepted a pass on defense.

Curwensville out gained ECC (5-3) 424-139 on the night.

Kyle Mahoney was 5 of 11 passing for 85 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT, while A.J. Seelye had two catches for 83 yards including a 67-yard touchdown catch.

PORT ALLEGANY 53, SHEFFIELD 0

SHEFFIELD – Robert Nichols and Cody Anderson combined to run for 280 yards and five touchdowns to lead Port Allegany (6-2) to a 53-0 win at Sheffield (0-8) Saturday afternoon.

Nichols carried 10 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns, while Anderson had 14 totes for 116 yards and three scores. Mark Chelgren added a touchdown run and Willie Bova (2 of 3, 53 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) added a 20-yard touchdown pass to Nichols.

DUBOIS 37, BRADFORD 0

DUBOIS – Rob Hanzely ran eight times for 84 yards and three touchdowns to lead DuBois to its ninth straight regular-season win a 37-0 pasting of D9 League rival Bradford Friday night in DuBois.

Hanzely scored on runs of 1, 5 and 41 yards for the Beavers (8-0 overall, 5-0 D9 League), who are one win shy of their first undefeated regular season since 1952. DuBois hosts Altoona Friday.

Mark Malacarne added 10 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown and added two catches for 65 yards helping DuBois out gain Bradford 379-113 on the night.

Ryan Liddle was 8 of 14 passing for 125 yards while running five times for 60 yards and a score.

Nick Foster added a fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown, while D.J. Smith kicked a 37-yard field goal.

Ben Walter was 5 of 17 passing for 57 yards and an interception while running for 14 yards for Bradford (2-5 overall, 2-3 D9 League). Tom Morris caught three passes for 41 yards.

KANE 26, JOHNSONBURG 20, OVERTIME

KANE – Zach Anderson’s 5-yard pass to John Bizzak on fourth-and-5 lifted Kane to a 26-20 overtime win over Johnsonburg Friday night in Kane.

The win clinched the eighth and final District 9 Class A playoff spot for the Wolves (5-3).

Johnsonburg (5-3) almost pulled out a miraculous win in regulation after Anderson fumbled the ball at the Kane 3-yard line with under a minute to play. That set up a 1-yard touchdown run quarterback Anthony Imbrogno as time ran out in regulation tying the score at 20. But the Rams extra point was no good keeping Kane’s hopes alive.

The game was a classic back-and-forth battle with each team answering the other’s scores.

Kane led 14-6 at halftime thanks to a 1-yard pass from Anderson to Colton Johnson and a 29-yard Kyle Oakes run. J-Burg’s score came on an 87-yard pass from Imbrogno to Judd Zilcosky.

The Rams tied the game on a 23-yard pass from Imbrogno to Jesse Dennis and a 2-point conversion pass between the two midway through the third quarter.

Kane went back up 20-14 on a 33-yard Oakes run late in the third quarter.

Late in the fourth quarter, Johnsonburg drove to the Kane 6 before being turned away. Anderson’s fumble, though, gave the Rams hope.

Oakes had a big night for Kane rushing 29 times for 142 yards and two scores, while Anderson was 9 of 13 passing for 66 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Johnson led the receivers with three catches for 24 yards.

Imbrogno was 6 of 15 passing for 166 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while also adding a rushing score for Johnsonburg. Six different Rams had catches. Johnsonburg rushed 32 times for only 69 yards without the services of Calvin Grumley.

BROCKWAY 31, RIDGWAY 0

RIDGWAY – Ben Donlin and Dillon Park combined to rush for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brockway to a 31-0 win at winless Ridgway Friday night.

Donlin carried the ball 11 times for 110 yards and one touchdown, while Park carried nine times for 67 yards and one touchdown and caught one pass for 15 yards and a score for the Rovers (5-3).

Anthony Varischetti added a 7 of 11 performance passing for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Antonuccio had four catches for 60 yards.

Jake Havens ran 12 times for 49 yards to pace Ridgway, while Nick Dickant was 5 of 10 passing for 55 yards. A.J. Hansen had three catches for 40 yards.

ST. MARYS 40, CLEARFIELD 22

ST. MARYS – Brian Tamburlin ran 19 times for 191 yards and three touchdowns to lead St. Marys to a huge 40-22 win over visiting Clearfield Friday night.

Tamburlin scored on runs of 51, 14 and 21 yards to help the Dutch (4-4) build a 33-0 lead in the third quarter.

Lucas Wendel went 4 of 12 passing for 49 yards and a touchdown while running six times for seven yards and a score for St. Marys kept alive hopes for a winning season for the first time since 1986. Adam Cornelio had a 60-yard scoring run late for the Dutch.

Andrew Janocko was 13 of 19 passing for Clearfield (4-4) for 189 yards and an interception, while Shane Davis ran 14 times for 66 yards and three touchdowns, while all three scores coming from the 0:00 mark of the third quarter on. Curtis Campman added five catches for 137 yards and 19 carries for 72 yards.

Clearfield has lost four times for the first time since going 6-5 in 1996.

CAMERON COUNTY 31, SMETHPORT 23

SMETHPORT – Cameron County rallied from a 23-19 fourth-quarter deficit to get a 31-23 win at Smethport Friday night.

The Red Raiders took the lead early in the quarter on a 3-yard John Malizia run before Derrick Mason’s 37-yard interception return for a touchdown with 27 seconds left sealed the win.

Jordan Crane had a huge night for Cameron going 18 of 27 passing for 223 yards and a touchdown while running once for a yard and a touchdown.

Shawn Manigle caught five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown, while Cory Smith had five catches for 60 yards.

Vince Kinniburgh was 11 of 18 passing for 183 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran nine times for 46 yards and a score. Josh Switzer added 14 carries for 49 yards and one catch for 16 yards. Chris Fitzsimmons had four catches for 80 yards and a score, while Bryan Tronetti had two for 59 yards and a score.

COUDERSPORT 47, OTTO-ELDRED 6

DUKE CENTER – Chris Cavallari scored three touchdowns to lead Coudersport to a 47-6 win at Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Cavallari carried the ball twice for 55 yards and two scores, returned an interception for a touchdown and caught one pass for five yards.

David Babcock added 10 carries for 144 yards to help the Falcons (8-0) remain the only undefeated Class A team in District 9.

Coudy out gained Otto-Eldred (2-6) 259-41.

In addition to Cavallari’s interception return for a touchdown, Kirk Duffee returned a fumble for a TD.

Caleb Morris continued his outstanding output at kicker going 5 of 7 on PAT’s while putting three of eight kickoffs into the end zone.

Coudersport now plays a yet to be determined opponent in the AML Title game next week. The game will be at the AML South champions’ field. It is the fourth straight trip to the AML Title game for the Falcons, who are looking for their first AML Title. A win next week would give Coudy the No. 1 seed in the D9 Class A Playoffs while a loss could drop Coudersport to as low as the No. 4 seed.

REDBANK VALLEY 38, MONITEAU 14

NEW BETHLEHEM – Behind 17 carries and 289 yards rushing and three touchdowns by Skyler Smith, Redbank Valley (5-3) secured a District 9 Class AA playoff spot with a 38-14 thumping of Moniteau (4-4) Friday night in New Bethlehem.

The Class AA tournament is an open tournament, but the Bulldogs are required by school policy to have at least a .500 record to go the postseason. The win assures Redbank Valley of finishing no worse than 5-4 in the regular season. Redbank closes the regular season next week at Clarion-Limestone.

It is not know if Moniteau will go to the playoffs if it loses to visiting Clarion next week.

Smith scored on touchdown runs of 82, 79 and 64 yards to account for 226 of his 301 yards on just three carries. He missed the final 16:43 of the game with an injury.

Brandon Doverspike (3 of 5, 87 yards) threw two touchdown passes including a 55-yard toss to Nick Johnston (2 catches, 67 yards) and a 20-yard strike to Brandon Brinker. He also ran for a touchdown.

Matt Schandelmeier (23 carries, 61 yards) scored on a 3-yard run for Moniteau, while Garth Kohlmeyer hit Adam Cousins with a 25-yard touchdown pass.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 16, UNION 0

RIMERSBURG – David Brooks, filling in for the suspended Scott Davis, ran 34 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns to lead Clarion-Limestone to a hard-fought 16-0 win over Union Friday night at Union.

Davis was forced to miss the game after being ejected from C-L’s 41-6 loss to Clarion last week. Brooks was also 6 of 12 passing for 74 yards and had an interception on defense.

With the loss, Union has now dropped 29 straight games.

C-L (7-1 overall, 5-1 KSAC) didn’t score its first touchdown until a 1-yard run by Brooks with 1:23 left in the first half. The score then stayed at 8-0 until midway through the fourth quarter when Brooks scored again on a 1-yard run.

Andy Wilson added 13 carries for 40 yards, while Matt Hetrick had 11 for 39 and scored two 2-point conversions. Hetrick also had two catches for 29 yards and Wilson two for 27.

Colton Davis led Union (0-8, 0-6) with 38 yards rushing and 15 tackles, while Nate Boltz had 18 tackles.

Jesse Zahoran had 13 tackles and a fumble recovery for C-L.

KARNS CITY 45, A-C VALLEY 7

KARNS CITY – Karns City took another step closer to an improbable piece of the KSAC title with a 45-7 win over visiting A-C Valley Friday night.

Stephen Black went 6-for-8 passing for 51 yards and a touchdown while running three times for 33 yards and a TD to lead a balanced Karns City (6-2, 5-1) attack.

Wayne Harris, Chad Bell, Joey Everetts, Stephon Conto and Justin Macurak also scored touchdowns for Karns City while Matt McConnell kicked a 34-yard field goal. It was the fourth straight game McConnell has nailed a 3-pointer.

Brad Rembold led A-C Valley (1-6, 1-5) going 6 of 17 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown (a 22-yard toss to Hank Heeter). Rocco Crapis rushed seven times for 48 yards, while Ryan Wadlow had two catches for 38 yards.

Everetts led Karns City’s ground attack with 10 carries for 11 yards, while Harris had 10 for 99.

HUGHESVILLE 45, KEYSTONE 12

HUGHESVILLE – Dan Egly ran through, over and around Keystone for 305 yards and six touchdowns to lead Hughesville (7-1) to an easy 45-12 win over visiting Keystone (1-7) Friday night.

Egly scored on runs of 85, 44, 24, 10, 9 and 2 yards while Jeremy Sweeting returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown.

Kyle McMunn scored on a 27-yard pass from Mike Switzer, and Derek Swartfager hit pay dirt with a 3-yard run for Keystone.

Swartfager had a nice night with 26 carries for 141 yards and the score, while McMunn caught four passes for 48 yards and also had an interception on defense. Switzer ran five times for 51 yards and threw for an additional 72 and a touchdown.
