WEEK NINE DISTRICT 9 FOOTBALL WRAP-UP

KANE – Tom Cooney and Vince Kinniburgh each ran for two touchdowns to lead Smethport to a 30-22 upset of playoff-bound Kane Friday night in Kane.

The loss cost Kane a shot at the sixth seed in the D9 Class A Playoffs. The Wolves are now the No. 8 seed.

Kane closed the gap to eight on a 7-yard touchdown run by Zach Anderson with 1:19 to play, but Smethport recovered the on-side kick.

Anderson also threw a touchdown pass to Colton Johnson, and Kyle Oakes ran for a score.

Kinniburgh was 5-for-11 passing for 63 yards while running 24 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

Anderson was 15 of 23 passing for a touchdown, while Oakes, the leading rusher in District 9 coming into the game, was held to 21 carries for 82 yards. John Bizzak had five catches for 81 yards.

CLEARFIELD 60, PUNXSUTAWNEY 8

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Andrew Janocko threw for four touchdowns and Curtis Campman ran for two scores and caught a third to lead Clearfield (5-4) to a 60-8 win at Punxsutawney (0-9) Friday night.

Janocko was 15 of 17 passing for 187 yards and four touchdowns, while Campman ran 17 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 16 yards and a score.

Toby Young added five carries for 64 yards and two scores in reserve duty for the Bisons, who will play St. Marys in the D9 Class AAA title game in two weeks.

Beau Ryan had six catches for 99 yards and a score to lead Clearfield’s receiving corps, and Matt Morgan added three catches for 24 yards and a touchdown. Doug Kephart also had a touchdown catch, while running eight times for 97 yards and a score.

Austin Furman caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Dubensky for Punxsy’s lone score. Clearfield led 34-0 at halftime.

Curtis Campman ran for three touchdowns and Andrew Janocko threw for three scores to lead Clearfield to a 60-8 victory at Punxsutawney Friday night.

RIDGWAY – Ridgway (1-8) broke a 9-game losing streak with a 17-6 win over visiting Cameron County (3-6) Friday night.

The Elkers last won when they beat Cameron 41-14 in Week 9 last year.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but A.J. Hansen caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Nick Dickant with just 24 seconds left in the third quarter to give Ridgway a 7-0 lead.

The Elkers made it 10-0 on a 24-yard Adam Handley field goal with eight minutes to play before Dickant score on a 1-yard run with 2:13 left.

Cameron’s lone touchdown came on a 4-yard pass from Jordan Crane to Cory Smith with 53 seconds to play.

Dickant was 3 of 10 passing for 67 yards and a score and ran for 10 yards and a score, while Ben Oknefski ran 15 times for 99 yards and Handley 12 for 57.

Crane was 10 of 20 passing for 114 yards, 1 TD and 2 Ints. Smith had three catches for 38 yards and a score.

JOHNSONBURG – Thanks to a little help from Smethport and a great defensive performance in a 16-0 win over visiting Sheffield, Johnsonburg secured the No. 6 seed in the D9 Class A playoffs.

The Rams (6-3) will face Clarion-Limestone (8-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday at C-L.

Against Sheffield (0-9), J-Burg’s defense was the difference limiting the Wolverines to 51 total yards including negative 7 rushing. The "D" also recorded a safety, picked off five passes (Jesse Dennis had three) and recovered two fumbles.

Turnovers kept the game close with the Rams losing five fumbles and throwing two interceptions.

Josh Fernoti’s 2-yard touchdown run late in the first half gave the Rams all the point they would need.

J-Burg then got a safety and a 10-yard Jesse Dennis run in the second half to pull away.

Anthony Imbrogno had a huge night through the air going 8 of 24 for 227 yards and two Ints. Tom Launer had six catches for 166 yards and added 17 carries for 44 yards. Feronti had 11 carries for 56 yards, while Judd Zilcosky had 13 for 91.

Jordan Copley was 6 of 23 passing for 58 yards but threw five interceptions for Sheffield.

RIMERSBURG – Karns City clinched a share of the KSAC title while handing Union’s its 30^th consecutive defeat 41-18 Friday night at Union.

The Gremlins (7-2 overall, 6-1 KSAC) share the title with Clarion and Clarion-Limestone. KC beat Clarion in overtime and lost to C-L in overtime. C-L lost to Clarion. It is Karns City first KSAC title since 2001.

The game was tight at halftime with Karns City holding a 21-12 lead, but the Gremlins outscored Union 20-6 in the second half.

Wayne Harris (19 carries, 127 yards) scored four touchdowns, three rushing and one on a kick return to lead Karns City. Chad Bell  caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Steve Black, and Joey Everetts ran for a 2-yard touchdown for the other Gremlin scores.

Colby Davis scored on an 85-yard run for Union, while Nate Boltz caught a 71-yard scoring pass from Zach Himes and Colton Davis scored on a 2-yard run.

Colby Davis ran nine times for 101 yards, while Colton Davis ran 17 times for 62 yards, Boltz had two catches for 86 yards and six yards rushing. Himes was 2 of 8 passing for 90 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int.

FOXBURG – Quarterback Mike Switzer ran for three touchdowns to lead Keystone to a season-ending 41-0 win at A-C Valley Friday night.

Switzer, who ran eight times for 51 yards, was also 5 of 10 passing for 61 yards. Derek Swartfager led the ground game with 20 carries for 148 yards while also returning an interception 25 yards for a score.

Zach Banner had a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown for the Panthers (2-7), while Kyle Colwell had a 20-yard touchdown run.

Kyle McMunn had one catch for 34 yards giving him 1,000 career receiving yards (1,029).

A-C Valley (1-7), which closes out its season at Lakeview Friday, was held to 32 yards. Brad Rembold was 3 of 15 passing for 16 yards, while Tom Perry ran four times for 31 yards.

BRADFORD – Bradford’s season came to a disappointing end with a 28-3 loss to visiting Harbor Creek Friday night.

The Owls (2-6) were suppose to play Warren next week but the Dragons qualified for the D10 playoffs so the game had to be canceled.

Stephen Blose, who ran for a state-record 488 yards earlier in the season, was too much for Bradford. The senior ran for 209 yards and four touchdowns while also kicking a field goal. Most of his damage came in the second half when he ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns.

Bradford led 3-0 on a 36-yard Steve Butler field goal early in the game, but it was all Blose after that. He scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter while also hitting a 36-yard field goal to give HC a 9-3 halftime lead.

In the second half, Blose scored on runs of 9, 13 and 9 yards in the second half.

Taylor O’Brien led Bradford with 10 carries for 78 yards, while Ben Walter was 4 of 13 passing for 44 yards. Tommy Morris had two catches for 24 yards.

GROVE CITY 25, BROOKVILLE 16

BROOKVILLE – For the third time in a year, Grove City knocked off Brookville – this time 25-16 in the Raiders regular-season finale Friday night in Brookville.

The Eagles (6-3) topped Brookville in the regular-season finale last year before beating the Raiders (4-5) in the PIAA Playoffs. Grove City was the PIAA runner-up in 2004.

This year, Grove City had to rally from a 9-7 second quarter deficit to get the win.

The Eagles scored 11 unanswered points after Brookville had taken the 2-point lead on a safety early in the quarter to lead 18-9 at halftime.

The Raiders closed to within three, 18-16, in the at the end of the third quarter but Grove City scored late in the fourth to put the game away.

Max Kutz had another nice night for Brookville running 13 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He also had an interception on defense.

Chris Clark paced Grove City with 16 totes for 80 yards and a score.

Brookville returns to action next week when it hosts Moniteau in the opening round of the D9 Class AA playoffs. The game is a rematch of last year’s opening round 20-13 win for the Raiders, who are the defending champions. Brookville is the No. 4 seed and Moniteau the No. 5 seed. The winner will play at Karns City in two weeks.

PHILIPSBURG – St. Marys made sure there would be no doubt that it would get its first winning regular season since 1986 scoring 23 unanswered second-half points to down host Philipsburg-Osecola 41-13 Friday night.

With the win, St. Marys (5-4), which has won three straight for the first time since 1990, also clinched the top seed in the District 9 Class AAA Playoffs. The Dutch (5-4) will face Clearfield (5-4) in two weeks for the title at a site and time to be announced.

Shad Boschert did much of the scoring for the Dutch catching two touchdown passes from Lucas Wendel and returning a kickoff 75 yards for a score. He finished with two catches for 26 yards.

Keith Armagost recovered a fumble in the end zone for St. Marys, while Scott Schatz had a 56-yard run and Brian Tamburlin a 24-yard scoring jaunt.

Schatz and Tamburlin led the way on the ground. Tamburlin carried 19 times for 119 yards and the score, while Schatz had 11 totes for 114 and a touchdown. He added an interception on defense. Wendel was 8 of 10 for 99 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception.

BROCKWAY – For the second time in three weeks, Brockway knocked off Otto-Eldred, although this one wasn’t as close – a 24-12 Rover win.

Two weeks ago, Brockway (6-3) beat Otto 13-12 also at Brockway. The teams were forced to play again because the teams they were scheduled to face – Coudy for Brockway, Curwensville for Otto – are playing in the AML Title Game Saturday night. It is the second straight year Brockway and Otto have met twice in the regular season with the Rovers winning all four.

The win clinched the No. 2 seed in the D9 Class AA playoffs for Brockway who will host Redbank Valley, the No. 3 seed, in two weeks.

Brockway’s Any Fremer tied a state and national record with a 99-yard touchdown run in the second quarter helping Brockway take a 21-0 halftime lead.

Dillon Park scored two first-half touchdowns on a 2-yard run and a 77-yard pass from Anthony Varischetti. Ben Donlin returned an interception 18 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.

Otto (2-7) scored on two touchdown passes from Travis Bair to Chad Bova in the second half. The first covered 22 yards and the second 59.

Bair was 7 of 16 for 152 yards, two TDs and 3 Ints, while Bova had four catches for 101 yards and the two scores while intercepting a pass on defense.

Fremer used the 99-yard run to lead Brockway with seven carries for 120 yards. Park had 12 totes for 61 and three catches for 109.

Varischetti was 6 of 14 passing for 140 yards, 1 TD and 1 Int.

Donlin added nine carries for 52 yards, two catches for 18 yards and two interceptions on defense.

Otto is scheduled to host Cowanesque Valley in its season finale Friday.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 26, REDBANK VALLEY 14

STRATTANVILLE – Behind another outstanding performance by junior quarterback Scott Davis, Clarion-Limestone claimed a share of the KSAC title – the Lions fourth straight KSAC crown – with a 26-14 win over visiting Redbank Valley Friday night.

Davis, playing in his first full game since Week 6 after being ejected in the first quarter at Clarion two weeks ago and serving a 1-game suspension vs. Union last week, was 15-for-22 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns while running 22 times for 94 yards and two scores.

C-L led 12-7 at halftime but quickly went ahead 20-7 on its first drive of the second half. Redbank cut the lead to 20-14, but C-L scored again to secure the win.

Brandon Doverspike threw a touchdown pass to Nick Johnston and ran for a score to lead Redbank Valley. Bulldog stats will be posted when they become available.

C-L (8-1 overall, 6-1 KSAC) shares the KSAC title with Clarion and Karns City. It is the second straight year the Lions and Bobcats have shared the title.

Despite having one more overall win than Clarion (7-2), C-L will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming District 9 Class A playoffs while Clarion is the No. 2 seed based on the Bobcats knocking off C-L two weeks ago. C-L will host Johnsonburg either Friday or Saturday.

Redbank Valley (5-4) is the No. 3 seed in the Class AA playoffs and will travel to Brockway in two weeks to play the second seeded Rovers (6-3).

David Brooks had nine catches for 114 yards to lead C-L’s receiving corps.

Doverspike led Redbank going 8 of 14 passing for 81 yards and a TD while running for 76 yards and a score. Skyler Smith ran for 60 yards and had 24 yards receiving, while Johnston had two catches for 48 yards and the touchdown.
