SHIPPENVILLE – Bradford’s Taylor O’Brien is the first D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the Week for the 2006 season.

O’Brien had a solid game on both sides of the ball while helping the Owls to a season-opening 56-35 win at rival Clearfield, the two-time defending District 9 Class AAA Champions.

He had eight carries for 124 yards (15.5 yards per carry) and three touchdowns on offense while recording six tackles including a sack on defense.

O’Brien had strong competition this week from three players including Coudersport’s Chris Cavallari (150 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns), Johnsonburg’s Calvin Grumley (106 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns, 77 yards passing, 1 field goal) and Ridgway’s Jerico Weitzel (127 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns; 55 yards receiving, 1 touchdown).

Cavallari, Grumley and Weitzel join 13 additional players in making up the District 9 Honor Roll this week. The honor roll recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by school.

Max Kutz – Brookville: 12 carries, 126 yards, 1 touchdown; 1 sack – Brookville 13, Philipsburg-Osceola 12.

Brad Rapp – Clarion: 10 carries, 100 yards, 2 touchdowns – Clarion 53, A-C Valley 6.

Andrew Janocko – Clearfield: 15-for-27 passing, 245 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception – Bradford 56, Clearfield 35.

Chris Cavallari – Coudersport: 20 carries, 150 yards, 2 touchdowns; 1 catch, 16 yards – Coudersport 20, Curwensville 12.

Nick Sipes – Curwensville: 30 carries, 132 yards, 2 touchdowns; 1 interception on defense; Became fourth runner in D9 history to break 4,000 career rushing yards – Coudersport 20, Curwensville 12.

Mark Malacarne – DuBois: 12 carries, 166 yards, 2 touchdowns; 3 catches, 32 yards, 1 touchdown; 1 2-point conversion; Missed final 1 ½ quarters with an injury – Central Mountain 35, DuBois 21.

Eric Mastrogiacomo – Elk County Catholic: 8 carries, 83 yards, 2 touchdowns; 2 interceptions on defense, one of which he returned for a touchdown – ECC 26, Otto-Eldred 0.

Calvin Grumley – Johnsonburg: 11 carries, 106 yards, 2 touchdowns; 6-for-14 passing, 77 yards; Kicked a 31-yard field goal – Johnsonburg 28, Port Allegany 7.
