SHIPPENVILLE – St. Marys’ Brian Tamburlin and Ridgway’s Jerico Weitzel are the D9Sports.com District 9 Football Co-Players of the Week for Week Nine of the 2006 season.

Tamburlin had a huge night in the Dutchmen’s 43-7 win at Youngsville running 22 times for 258 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 11.7 yards per carry.

Weitzel had an equally great week running 17 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns, catching two passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, returning an interception for a touchdown, making 19 tackles on defense and forcing a fumble.

For Tamburlin, it is the second time in his career that he has been named Player of the Week. He shared the honor with Redbank Valley’s Skyler Smith in Week Eight last season.

It is also the second honor for Weitzel, who shared the award in Week Five with Curwensville’s Nick Sipes.

Sipes (132 yards rushing, 4 TDs), Brookville’s Shane Heschke (79 yards rushing, 2 TDs; 98 yards passing, 1 TD) and Clarion’s Larry Stout (168 yards rushing, 2 TDs) provided Tamburlin and Weitzel with competition for the award.
