FOXBURG – Behind a balanced attack that featured seven players score touchdowns, Clarion knocked off A-C Valley 53-6 in the season opener for both teams Friday night at A-C Valley. Senior Brad Rapp led the way for the Bobcats (1-0 overall, 1-0 KSAC) rushing 10 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Adam Bevevino added a touchdown rushing and a touchdown passing while accumulating 80 yards of total offense (58 passing, 22 rushing). "It’s nice to start the season with a win," Clarion head coach Larry Wiser, who won his 120th career game, said. "Offensively and defensively, we made some first-game mistakes. But we also looked very good at times." Rapp was a key part of the good parts of the offense. The senior, who has waited four year for the opportunity to be the feature back, scored on runs of 26 and five yards were getting his first 100-yard game. "It feels pretty good," Rapp said. "The last couple of years, I haven’t had that many opportunities to run. Now to get the chance feels great. I would have liked to have gone a little bit more exactly, but it’s good to get everybody else in and give them a chance to play too." Seven of Rapp’s 10 runs went for seven yards or more including four of 10 yards or more. "He’s a kid who does everything during practice and in the off-season," Wiser said. "Brad Rapp is just a special kid from a coach’s stand point. He had some great cuts early on. He broke some tackles and got some tough yardage. His vision is so unreal. It’s just unbelievable." Bevevino, meanwhile, making his first career start at quarterback was 4-for-8 for 58 yards and the touchdown. He easily could have been 6 of 8 as two of his passes were dropped. His touchdown pass was a tight spiral of 36 yards to Tyler Schwab on a fade route in the first quarter. "The touchdown pass was just a beautiful fade route run by Tyler," Wiser said. "Adam just put that ball in there beautifully." A-C Valley had its moments as well including a seven-play, 77-yard drive in the final 2:10 of the first half for its lone touchdown. The score came on a 13-yard pass from Brad Rembold to Mike Himes as time expired at the end of the first half. Himes had a 40-yard run during the drive to set up the touchdown. "We played better than last year (when Clarion won 71-0)," A-C Valley head coach Randy Lemmon said. "But we could have done better. We are a better team than we showed tonight." Jake Fleeger’s 20-yard run followed by Bevevino’s touchdown strike to Schwab gave Clarion a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rapp then ran for his two touchdowns making it 27-0 with 4:51 to play in the first half before a 1-yard dive by Tony McMillen put Clarion ahead 34-0 late in the half. Bevevino’s 20-yard touchdown run 39 seconds into the second half put Clarion ahead 41-6 and put the Mercy Rule and with it a running clock into effect. The Bobcats then added touchdown runs of 31 yards by Larry Stout and 32 yards by Jarrod Carpin to finish out the scoring.
