RIMERSBURG Jake Smith threw for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth while also picking off a pass on defense to lead Redbank Valley to a 49-20 win over Union Friday night in Rimersburg. Smith was 12-for-16 passing for 164 yards while throwing one interception. He also ran six times for 77 yards and a score. Seven of his 12 completions resulted in either a touchdown or a first down. Sophomore Alex Bladel had his second consecutive big game for the Bulldogs (2-0 overall, 2-0 KSAC) as well. He ran 16 times for 172 yards and two scores and now has 337 yards and three touchdowns in two varsity starts. Against Union, he had six run of 10 yards or more including jaunts of 39 and 37 yards. He also intercepted a pass on defense. Colby Davis ran 10 times for 53 yards and a touchdown for Union, while Zach Himes was 3-for-9 for 76 yards and two interceptions. Nate Boltz had a 48-yard catch, and Brett Moore a 31-yard grab. Union (1-1, 0-1) struck first on an 11-yard run by Davis 1:31 seconds into the game. Aaron Paulden then hit Moore with a 2-point conversion pass making it 8-0 Golden Knights. Redbank Valley got to within a point midway through the quarter on a 10-yard Bladel run with 6:50 left. It took the Bulldogs 2:13 to take the lead when Smith hit Jerrett Magagnotti with a 3-yard pass to make it 14-8 with 4:37 left in the opening quarter. A little over three minutes later, Smith hit Pat Wasilowski with a 4-yard pass to give Redbank Valley a 21-8 lead at the end of the quarter. Smith then hit Justin Dunnivan with a 44-yard pass with 7:02 left in the first half to make it 28-8 before Himes scored on a 4-yard run with 5:44 to play before the half making it 28-14 at halftime. Redbank Valley put the game away with 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. Bladel got the scoring started with an 8-yard run at the 6:42 mark followed by a 6-yard run by Smith with 5:15 left in the third. Smith then hit Kasey Haines with a 19-yard scoring strike to make it 49-14 with 1:41 left in the third quarter. That touchdown put the Mercy Rule into effect. Union got the games final score on a 20-yard run by Kriebel with 4:49 left in the game. Redbank Valley returns to action next week when it hosts Schenley from the Pittsburgh City League, while Union is at Keystone for a KSAC game. NOTES Union managed one first run and 59 yards of offense all rushing in the second half The Golden Knights suffered a blow early in the second quarter when Davis injured his ankle and didnt return. He spent the second half on the sidelines on crutches The win was the 50th career win for Redbank Valley head coach Ed Wasilowski, who is now 50-40 in his 10th year at Redbank Valley.
