DuBOIS – One week after blowing an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter in a loss to Clearfield, the Brookville Raiders did something they’ve never done before: Shut out DuBois.

Brookville scored three times in the first half to notch a 19-0 win over the struggling Beavers at E.J. Mansell Stadium Friday night.

Alex Kerr scored twice, catching a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Shane Heschke and returning an interception 73 yards for the final score of the game late in the second quarter.

Heschke also tossed a 12-yard TD pass to Tyler Ross for the Raiders, who improved to 2-1 and help rid themselves some of the memories from last week’s 39-35 loss to Clearfield.

The Raiders dominated the game much more than the score indicated, outgaining DuBois, 377-120. Brookville sacked Beavers quarterback James Conway four times and intercepted him three times.

Offensively, the Raiders rushed 224 yards, getting 124 from Joe Galbraith on only 13 carries. Max Kutz gained 70 on 11 attempts. Heschke had his best game of his young varsity career, connecting on 10 of 17 passes for 153 yards. Seven completions went to Tyler Ross for 89 yards.

Heschke’s first TD pass went to Kerr from 21 yards out with 2:37 left in the first quarter.

Brookville made it 12-0 on its next possession two plays into the second quarter when Heschke found Ross in the end zone from 12 yards out on a 3-and-11 play. Then late in the second quarter Kerr came up with his big defensive play.

Kerr, a junior defensive back, had apparently grabbed an interception three plays prior to his interception return, but the play was nullified by a roughing the passer call. He also notched a sack and caught two passes for 39 yards.

DuBois crossed midfield only three times in its nine possessions. The Beavers’ best chances to score came on their last two possessions, but both ended with interceptions. Brett Mohney outmuscled John Baummer in the end zone with 2:06 left in the third quarter and Ross made a nice diving catch of a Conway pass at the Raiders’ 13 with 8:52 remaining in the game.

Brookville’s shutout was the Raiders’ first against the Beavers in 20 meetings between the teams. The Beavers still lead the all-time series 15-5.

The Raiders’ last shutout came in 2000 when they beat Punxsutawney, 13-0.
