EMPORIUM – Coudersport’s defense stopped a Cameron County 2-point try with 7:30 to play to help the Falcons to an 8-6 win over Cameron County in an AML North showdown Friday night in Emporium.

Cameron’s Darrick Mason scored on a 13-yard run to bring the Red Raiders (2-1 overall, 2-1 AML North) to within two points before the Falcons stopped the two-point conversion.

The win was Coudersport’s 12th consecutive regular-season victory and the Falcons (3-0, 3-0) 23rd straight against an AML North opponent – they last loss to an AML North team Sept. 6, 2002, 21-14 to Eisenhower. Coudersport’s last non-AML Title game, non-District 9 Playoff game loss to a District 9 team came Sept. 21, 2001, 32-6 to Smethport (the AML Title game counts as a regular-season game and Eisenhower is a District 10 school). It was the closest Coudersport has come to losing a non-AML Title game regular-season game since that loss to Eisenhower. It was also the first time Coudersport has failed to score at least 10 points in a regular-season game since beating Smethport 9-0 Sept. 26, 2003.

Coudersport scored its lone touchdown with 5:16 left in the first quarter when Boomer Weitzel hit Logan Hathaway with a 31-yard touchdown pass and then found Dirk Cowburn with the 2-point conversion pass.

The Falcons (3-0 overall, 3-0 AML North) led 8-0 when Cameron’s Derrick Mason scored on a 13-yard run with 7:30 to play. But the Red Raiders (2-1, 2-1) two-point conversion pass failed.

Penalties helped ground the Falcons, as they were flagged seven times for 62 yards, while Cameron had three for 28.

Chris Cavallari had another big game for Coudersport, which once again played without Sam Decker, running 24 times for 108 yards. Weitzel was 5 of 10 for 60 yards and the touchdown pass.

Jordan Crane was 4 of 10 passing for 89 yards and two interceptions for Cameron while running nine times for 21 yards.

The Cameron running game was by committee with Cameron Clingan running four times for 26 yards, John Malizia six times for 26, Mason three for 27 and Nick Malize six for 19 to go with Cranes nine for 21. The Red Raiders played without Cash Grimone.
