OTTO-ELDRED 20, SHEFFIELD 15 |
Sept. 15, 2006 |
DUKE CENTER – Chad Bova scored his second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run with six minutes to play to
lead Otto-Eldred to a come-from-behind 20-15 win over visiting Sheffield Friday night.
Otto-Eldred (1-2 overall, 1-2 AML North) trailed 15-8 heading to the fourth quarter but got to within a point on a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Travis Bair. The two-point conversion was stopped leaving the Terrors down 15-14. Bova, who ran 18 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns, gave Otto the lead for good when he scored on the 2-yard run at the end of a 71-yard drive that covered four minutes. Sheffield (0-3, 0-3), which has lost 14 in row, had a chance to re-take the lead when it moved the ball close to midfield, but Otto’s defense was able to stop a fourth-and-inches pass attempt across the middle with a minute left. The Wolverines led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 21-yard touchdown run by Michael Bryant, who finished the game with 18 carries for 155 yards and a score. Sheffield had a chance to increase the lead on its next possession when Bryant took off on a 54-yard run. But Eric Freer caught him from behind at the 1-yard line, and a penalty and a sack forced Sheffield out of field goal range. Otto took advantage of the Sheffield misfortune to tie the game on an 8-yard run by Bova in the second quarter, but the Wolverines retook the lead at halftime on a 30-yard field goal by Jordan Copley. It was then the Sheffield’s defense that came up big at the goal line stopping Otto-Eldred on a fourth-and-goal from the 1-foot line. But Otto-Eldred’s defense came up with a big play on the next play when Kurtis Breese tackled Bryant in the end zone for a safety cutting the lead to 9-8. Sheffield, though, took the 7-point lead on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Copley to Jason Borst. Anthony Marrone added 14 carries for 53 yards for Otto, while Bair was 9 of 17 passing for 110 yards and three interceptions. Breese had two catches for 66 yards, while Bova had four for 23 and Marrone three for 23. Copley was 6 of 19 passing for Sheffield for 56 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also had 23 yards rushing on five carries. Borst had three catches for 28 yards and the score, while Jesse Parsons caught three passes for 28 yards and ran four times for seven yards.
