KANE 18, PORT ALLEGANY 6

Sept. 23, 2006

PORT ALLEGANY – Kane’s John Bizzak scored two touchdowns, and Port Allegany lost four fumbles to help Kane to an 18-6 win Saturday afternoon in Port Allegany.

Bizzak ran 18 times for 150 yards and scored on runs of 80 and 14 yards in the second half to help Kane (2-2 overall, 2-2 AML South) to an 18-0 lead.

Port Allegany, meanwhile, couldn’t hold onto the football. The Gators (2-2, 2-2 AML North) fumbled the ball on four straight second-half possessions including three times inside the Kane 20-yard line.

Not only didn’t Port Allegany score because of the fumbles, Kane turned the turnovers into 12 points on its side helping to put the game away.

Kane led 6-0 at halftime thanks to a 32-yard pass from Kenny Kane to Ross Nicholson in the second quarter. The Wolves drive started from the Port 35-yard line after Port’s R.J. Shively couldn’t handle a punt snap.

Port Allegany looked to be in good shape, however, when Mark Chelgreen returned the opening kickoff of the second half 80 yards to the Kane 6-yard line.

Nick Nichols, however, fumbled the ball away on a second-and-goal run from the six with Kane recovering the loss pigskin at the 8-yard line.

The Gator defense came up big forcing the Wolves to lose seven yards on three plays with the help of a penalty.

A 27-yard punt by Kane’s Matt Mix coupled with a 13-yard return by Colby Brookens set Port Allegany right back up at the Kane 15-yard line.

But once again the Gators couldn’t capitalize.

Four plays netted Port eight yards, and a false start set the Gators back to the Kane 12-yard line where they faced a fourth-and-12.

Derick Morey then fumbled the ball, and Kane recovered at the 12-yard line having dodged another bullet.

This time the Wolves made Port Allegany pay for the mistake, as Bizzak scored his first touchdown of the game on an 80-yard run to put Kane ahead 12-0.

Port came right back on its next drive moving from its own 30-yard line to the Kane 20 in nine plays.

But Morey was hit for a 5-yard loss on first down from the 20 putting the Gators into a second-and-15 situation from the 25.

Morey then hit Shively with a pass to the Kane 18, but Shively coughed up the football with Kane recovering at the 18.

Shively atoned for his miscue early in the fourth quarter when he stopped Kane’s ensuing drive by picking off a Kenny Kane pass at the Port 13-yard line.

But four plays later, Chelgreen fumbled the ball away at the Port 27-yard line setting Kane up with great field position.

The Wolves then put the game away on a 14-yard touchdown run by Bizzak.

Port’s lone touchdown came very late in the fourth quarter when Matt Larson broke a 55-yard touchdown run.

Kane outgained Port Allegany 310 yards to 206.

Kenny Kane was 11 of 15 passing for 106 yards, one touchdown and one interception. It was the sophomore’s best game since replacing injured starter Zach Anderson early in Week One.

Deryk Smith caught four passes for 47 yards for the Wolves, while Nicholson had three for 38 and the touchdown.

Larson's long run made him Port’s leading rusher with three carries for 68 yards and the touchdown. Chad Saltsman added nine carries for 42 yards, Nichols had 14 for 31 and Chelgreen five for 31.
