DuBOIS – Derek Taylor scored four touchdowns to lead a Kittanning Wildcats 49-12 rout of the DuBois Beavers in the first-ever regular-season meeting between the teams.

Kittanning, a Class AA team out of the WPIAL about half the size of Quad-A DuBois, scored on its first seven possessions with its first-team offense on the field. The Wildcats led 42-6 at halftime.

Kittanning piled up 493 yards of offense and only 100 of that came in the second half with the Mercy Rule running clock in effect at the start of the third quarter. The loss is a District 9-leading seventh straight for DuBois (0-5).

Taylor scored on runs of 1, 6 and 6 yards and caught a 15-yard TD pass from quarterback Colin McKelvey. While Taylor finished with 74 yards on eight carries, two of his backfield mates went over the century mark. Ryan Shepard rushed for 157 yards on nine carries with touchdown runs of 69 and 10 yards. Bobby Keys ran for 110 yards on eight carries and scored on a 65-yard run.

The Wildcats finished with 431 yards rushing. Its longest scoring drive among the seven touchdowns took eight plays.

DuBois scored once in each half. Quarterback James Conway scored on a 19-yard run late in the first quarter to get the Beavers within 14-6. The score was set up by Kyle Bish’s 56-yard kick return.

In the second half, third-string quarterback Danny Henry connected with Scott Crytser for a 35-yard TD pass two plays into the fourth quarter.

Making things worse for the Beavers were injuries to some key players. Mark Malacarne, who was making his first appearance since an ACL injury the opening week of the season, re-injured his knee in early in the second quarter. He gained 29 yards on five carries caught a pass for two yards on the play he injured his knee.

Along with Malacarne were game-ending injuries to Cody Royer, the team’s leading tackler, receiver Taylor Kriner and even backup quarterback Nick Krause.
