OTTO-ELDRED 28, SMETHPORT 14

DUKE CENTER – Travis Bair threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns to lead Otto-Eldred to a 28-14 win over visiting Smethport Friday night in Duke Center.

Bair was 11 of 14 passing with scoring tosses to Kyle Armstrong (1 catch, 10 yards) and Kurtis Breese (4 catches, 65 yards). Armstrong added seven carries for 22 yards and a touchdown, while Chad Bova had six carries for 47 yards and a score.

The game was scoreless for most of the first half before the teams exploded for three touchdowns in 50 seconds late in the second quarter.

Otto-Eldred (2-4 overall, 2-4 AML North) scored first on a 4-yard touchdown run by Armstrong with 2:12 left in the opening half. The score was set up by a 34-yard pass from Bair to Eric Freer, who finished with two catches for 89 yards.

Smethport (0-6, 0-6) returned the ensuing kickoff to its 45-yard line, and Devon Baumgardner hit Joel Kohler with a 55-yard pass to get the Hubbers to within a point a 7-6. Smethport went for the 2-point conversion and took the lead 8-7 when Tom Cooney scored on the try.

It was then Otto’s turn for a long kickoff return with Armstrong going 74 yards to the Smethport 12-yard line. That set up a 12-yard touchdown run by Bova that was followed by a 2-point conversion pass from Bair to Andrew Marrone giving the Terrors a 15-8 halftime lead.

Otto added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to go ahead 28-8.

Bair hit Armstrong with a 10-yard pass and a 22-8 lead, and then Cooney fumbled the ball on Smethport’s next possession with Grant Preston recovering for Otto-Eldred at the Smethport 22-yard line.

That set up a 22-yard scoring toss from Bair to Kurtis Breese giving Otto the 20-point lead.

Smethport capped the scoring on a 2-yard run by Justin Switzer in the fourth quarter.

Zack Roberts had another huge night on defense. District 9’s leading tackler coming into the game, Roberts has 11 solo tackles and 12 assisted for 17 total.
