STRATTANVILLE – Larry Stout and Tyler Schwab each scored two touchdowns to lead Clarion to a 56-6 win over rival Clarion-Limestone Friday night at C-L.

The Bobcats (4-3 overall, 3-3 KSAC) have now won three straight over the Lions for the first time since winning nine straight from 1978-87.

Stout carried the ball 11 times for a career-high 164 yards, while Schwab had three catches for 55 yards.

"Larry broke some good tackles," Clarion head coach Larry Wiser said. "He has that little kick when he gets into the secondary, and I don’t know if I’ve ever coached a kid who runs his patterns as crisp as Tyler does."

Clarion took advantage of great field position the entire night – Clarion’s average starting position was the C-L 36 – to score on eight of its 10 drives including its first seven.

"You don’t get scores like this without field position like this," Wiser said. "There were some turnovers that helped us there plus I thought our defense was pretty sound."

Clarion opened the scoring with a 27-yard drive that started after a zero yard C-L punt.

Schwab got the score on a 26-yard pass from Adam Bevevino just over three minutes into the game.

The Bobcats second touchdown came on a 1-yard Eric Grejda run with 4:49 left in the opening quarter after a 25-yard drive that was set up by a 12-yard punt return by Jake Fleeger.

The score remained 14-0 until early in the second quarter when Brad Rapp found the end zone with a 1-yard run that finished an 8-play, 50-yard drive.

The Bobcats then made it 28-0 on a 5-yard run by Stout at the end of a 4-play, 19-yard drive that was set up by a C-L fumble.

Schwab got the score to 35-0 when he caught a 25-yard pass from Bevevino two plays after Clarion had taken over at the C-L 25 following a 6-yard punt.

James Seidle capped the first half scoring for Clarion when he pulled in a 15-yard scoring toss from senior backup quarterback Matt Smith with seven seconds left in the first half. It ended the longest drive of the night for Clarion – 8 plays, 55 yards. It was Smith’s first career scoring pass.

It took the Bobcats just 16 seconds into the second half to make it 49-0.

C-L attempted to start the second half with an on-side kick but the kick actually bounced backwards for negative three yards giving Clarion the ball at the C-L 37.

On the first play from scrimmage, Stout broke a 37-yard run for his second touchdown of the game and his fourth of the season.

C-L’s defense stopped Clarion on a fourth-down try at the C-L 5 on the Bobcats next possession, and the Lions then went on an impressive 13-play, 95-yard scoring drive.

Ryan Reddinger, playing with a cast on his one hand, scored the touchdown on a 20-yard toss from Dan Miller, who was 6-for-8 passing for 76 yards on the night.

"Dan has a good arm," C-L head coach Todd Smith said. "He’s a big kid back there. He’s going to be a good quarterback.

"We are just trying to get better. We’ve had a different line for every single game. We’ve had a lot of kids in and out and a lot of injuries. Our kids don’t give up. We’ve always had kids like that."

Clarion closed out the scoring on a 1-yard Tony McMillen run that was set up by a 31-yard jaunt by Stout.

NOTES – Clarion unveiled a new offense weapon against the Lions when Bevevino set up in the shotgun in the first half … It is the first time Clarion has used the shotgun under Wiser, who is in his 19th year as head coach.
