KNOX – Keystone didn’t want any doubt about it clinching the school’s first football playoff spot in nine years running up 36 first-quarter points on its way to a 42-0 win over visiting A-C Valley Friday night. With the win, the Panthers (5-4 overall, 4-3) KSAC earned the conference’s second automatic in the District 9 Class A Playoffs. Derek Swartfager scored all four of his touchdowns in the first quarter to lead Keystone. Swartfager finished the night with eight carries for 77 yards and three touchdowns and one catch for 28 yards and a score. The Panthers were helped by 11 A-C Valley fumbles, 10 of which Keystone recovered. That coupled with some short punts led the quick 36 points. Keystone’s scoring drives in the quarter started at the A-C Valley 34, the A-C Valley 14, the A-C Valley 30, the A-C Valley 22 and the A-C Valley 35. The great field position was one of the reasons Keystone had 42 points with just 166 yards of offense. Swartfager got the scoring started on a 3-yard run with 9:25 left in the first quarter. His 2-point conversion run gave Keystone a 8-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Swartfager scored on a 2-yard run making it 15-0. Ben Black then hit Swartfager with a 28-yard screen pass for a touchdown making it 22-0 with 3:31 left in the first eight minutes. Keystone wasn’t done yet scoring on a 15-yard Swartfager run with 2:24 to play in the quarter and then getting a 35-yard TD run from Luca Montana down the left sideline with 33 seconds left in the quarter. Dan Reed added a 7-yard touchdown run with 42 second left in the third quarter to conclude the scoring. A-C Valley (0-8, 0-7) did have a couple of drives in the first half moving the ball inside the Keystone 20 twice in the half and getting as close as the Panther 4-uatd line once but turned the ball over on fumbles both times. The Falcons lost 7 of 8 fumbles in the first half. Despite those two drives, Keystone was able to hold A-C Valley to seven yards of offense in the opening 24 minutes. NOTES – Keystone fumbled the ball seven times itself meaning there were 18 fumbles in the game. The Panthers, though, only lost one of their loose balls … The week plus of run turned Keystone’s field into a mess. Neither team could get out of its own end, and as a result all but two series were played on the south end of the field. The north end was mostly green and intact. The wear and tear showed, and even the referees had trouble just getting in position to make calls while any dropped ball basically sunk straight into the ground … Keystone began putting in its reserves early in the second quarter … Reed had a 38-yard touchdown run called back in the third quarter because of a holding penalty … A-C Valley has now lost 12 straight games KEYSTONE 42, A-C VALLEY 0 A-C Valley 0-0-0-0 – 0 Keystone 36-0-6-0 – 42 SCORING SUMMARY First Quarter K – Derek Swartfager 3-yard run ( Swartfager run), 9:25.
