RIDGWAY 48, SHEFFIELD 16 SHEFFIELD – Jerico Weitzel ran for 143 yards and four touchdowns to lead Ridgway to a 48-16 win at Sheffield Saturday afternoon. Nick Dickant added 84 yards rushing and two scores, while Elliot Pontious had 67 yards on the ground. Ridgway rolled up 400 yards rushing on the day and 469 totals yards. Weitzel made it a complete day by interception a pass on defense, going 2-for-2 passing for 30 yards and catching one pass for 5 yards. Andy Aiello had two catches for 61 yards for the Elkers (2-2 overall, 2-2 AML South). Sheffield (0-4, 0-4 AML North), which has lost 15 straight games, didn’t scored until the fourth quarter against the Ridgway back-ups. The Wolverines were held to 159 yards of offense. INDIAN VALLEY 49, PUNXSUTAWNEY 7 LEWISTOWN – Indian Valley scored two touchdowns in the first four minutes of play and rolled to a 49-7 win over visiting Punxsutawney Friday night. The Warriors took the momentum from that early 13-0 lead to build a 42-0 halftime lead and played the entire second half with the Mercy Rule. Mike Smiley scored Punxsutawney’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard run with 30 seconds left in the game. Smiley ran 21 times for 124 yards to lead Punxsutawney (1-3). JOHNSONBURG 39, OTTO-ELDRED 0 DUKE CENTER – Jesse Dennis scored two touchdowns, and the Johnsonburg defense limited Otto-Eldred to 69 yards of offense helping the Rams to a 39-0 at Otto Friday night. Dennis scored on a 6-yard second-quarter run and a 7-yard fourth quarter run. Calvin Grumley added a 2-yard touchdown pass to John Yonker, a 12-yard touchdown toss to Judd Zilcosky and a 27-yard field goal, as the Rams moved to 4-0 on the season. Dennis finished the game with 18 carries for 149 yards, while also catching four passes for 32 yards and completing one pass for 22 yards. Grumley was 10 of 20 passing for 76 yards and two scores and intercepted two passes on defense, while Zilcosky had two catches for 21 yards and six carries for 32 yards while also picking off a pass. Travis Bair was 8 of 18 passing for 44 yards and two interceptions for Otto while also running for 11 yards. Chad Bova had six carries for 16 yards and two catches for 20 yards. Tod Chaffee had 10 tackles on defense. BROOKVILLE 46, ST. MARYS 20 BROOKVILLE – Max Kutz carried 13 times for 321 yards and four touchdowns to lead Brookville to a 46-20 win over visiting St. Marys Friday night. Kutz, who averaged 23.5 yards per carry, scored on runs of 26, 72, 72 and 78 yards – the last three coming in the second half – to spark a Brookville running attack that amassed 421 yards. Overall, the Raiders’ offense totaled 552 yards. Shane Heschke was 7-for-11 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns while running 9 times for 68 yards and a score for Brookville (3-1 overall, 2-1 D9 League). Eli Morres and Justin Smith each had 1 ½ sacks on defense. Brian Tamburlin ran 24 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns to lead St. Marys (0-4, 0-1), while Bryan Dempsey was 13 of 22 passing for 189 yards and one touchdown. Kurt Baumgratz added seven catches for 140 yards, while Aaron Giles had two for 39 and a score. BRADFORD 45, WARREN 21 BRADFORD – Taylor O’Brien ran 28 times for 212 yards and five touchdowns to lead Bradford to a 45-21 win over visiting Warren Friday night. O’Brien scored on runs of 1, 2, 35, 6 and 1 yards helping the Owls (4-0) run for 353 yards on the night. The Owls only led 21-14 late in the first half before scoring 10 points in the final 1:14 of the half. First Ben Walter hit Tommy Morris with a 35-yard screen pass for a touchdown, and then Steve Butler hit a 35-yard field goal. BROCKWAY 42, SMETHPORT 6 BROCKWAY – Dillon Park scored three touchdowns to lead Brockway (2-2) to a 42-6 rout of Smethport (0-4) Friday night in Brockway. Park caught three passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns and ran 10 times for 51 yards and score. Two of his touchdowns came in the second half, helping Brockway outscore Smethport 28-0 in the half. The Rovers led 14-6 at halftime but scored 16 points in the third quarter to put the game away. Armando Fortunato (5 carries, 13 yards, 1 TD; 4 catches, 67 yards, 1 TD) added two touchdowns for Brockway, while Anthony Varischetti was 11 of 23 passing for 159 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while running eight times for 92 yards. He also caught one pass for 25 yards. Smethport scored on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Devon Baumgardner to Joey Kohler. But it was one of just two completions for Baumgardner (2 of 13, 37 yards). The QB did run 17 times for 55 yards, while Zach Rittberg added eight catchesfor 33 yards. COUDERSPORT 12, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0 COUDERSPORT – Chris Cavallari rushed 30 times for 194 yards and a touchdown to lead Coudersport (4-0) past visiting Elk County Catholic (2-2) Friday night. With the big game, Cavallari now has 679 yards rushing on the season, good for the D9 lead. Coudersport played most of the game without starting quarterback Boomer Wetzel, who left the game in the first half for unknown reasons. Backup QB Justin Kinder was 3 of 8 for 29 yards. Drew Levasseur (4 carries, 12 yards) scored Coudy’s first touchdown on a 3-yard run at the end of a 90-plus yard drive. Andy Herbstritt was 9 of 16 passing for 67 yards an an intercetpion for ECC, while Eric Mastrogiacomo had 14 carries for 35 yards. CLEARFIELD 21, BELLEFONTE 17 CLEARFIELD – Come-from-behind wins are becoming cominplace for Clearfield. The Bisons (3-1) rallied from a 10-0 deficit to beat Bellefonte 21-17 in a Mountain Athletic Conference-Seven Mountains Division contest Friday nigth in Clearfield. Isiah Morgan’s 68-yard touchdown run with 10:20 left in the game set the final score. It is the third straight week Clearfield has rallied to win the game with a fourth quarter touchdown. Morgan rushed for 103 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Andrew Janocko completed 16 of 25 passes for 244 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Doug Kephart caught both TD passes from 36 yards out. Kephart finished with 157 yards on six receptions. CURWENSVILLE 46, CAMERON COUNTY 29 CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville’s Nick Sipes moved into second place all-time in District 9 rushing, as he teamed with Shawn Sopic to help the Golden Tide rally for a 46-29 win over visiting Cameron County Friday night. Cameron (2-2) led 14-8 at halftime, but Curwensville (3-1) scored 38 points in the second half. The Tide led 46-14 before the Red Raiders scored the final two touchdowns. Sipes had 29 carries for 121 yards and three touchdowns and a 39-yard field goal, while Sopic, the quarterback, had nine carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns (14 and 13 yards). The 121 yards gives Sipes 4,596 career yards moving him past Clearfield’s Dave Richards (4,524 yards) into second place all-time in D9 history. He is 98 yards behind Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio for the all-time D9 career rushing record. The three TDs also gives Sipes 62 for his career moving him into sole possession of third place on the all-time list. He is 11 touchdowns behind his cousin Kyle Cathcart of Clarion for second all-time and 18 behind Richard’s D9 record of 80. Cameron Clingan led Cameron County with 15 carries for 160 yards and a touchdown scoring on a 74-yard run in the first half. Charlie Holjencin had two carries for 77 yards, and Abram Zoschg had 10 carries for 57 yards. John Malizia chipped in with seven totes for 43 yards and a score. MONITEAU 42, UNION 3 RIMERSBURG – Sophomore quarterback Tyler Armagost threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns (7 of 12) and ran 10 times for 77 more yards to lead Moniteau to a 42-3 win over Union Friday night in Union. Adam Cousins added 13 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns helping Moniteau outgain Union 435-186. Aaron Randall had three grabs for 59 yards for the Warriors (4-0 overall, 3-0 KSAC). Moniteau led 14-3 at halftime before scoring 28 unanswered second-half points. Nate Boltz led Union (1-3, 0-3) with 13 carries for 72 yards and three catches for 31 yards. Brett Moore added two catches for 40 yards, and Zach Himes was 6 of 22 passing for 74 yards. Union’s lone points came on a 28-yard field goal by Aaron Paulden. WEST SHAMOKIN 46, A-C VALLEY 0 FOXBURG – Anthony Morales scored three touchdowns to lead West Shamokin to a 46-0 win at A-C Valley Friday night. The Wolves (1-3), who also got a touchdown pass and a touchdown run from Luke Wilson, shut out an opponent for only the second time in the history of the school, which was a joint venture of Shannock Valley and Dayton in 2000, Wilson was 12 of 20 passing for 115 yards, but he was intercepted three times. West Shamokin had a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown by Morales and an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown by Drew Recken. A-C Valley finished the game with zero rushing yards. NORTH EAST 2, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0 (Forfeit) NORTH EAST – According to a published report in the Oil City Derrick, Clarion-Limestone decided to forfeit its non-conference game at North East, giving the Grapepickers a 2-0 victory. C-L fell to 1-3 on the season while North East moved to 3-1. |
