ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 33, BROCKWAY 14

ST. MARYS – Eric Mastrogiacomo ran 17 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns to lead Elk County Catholic to a 33-14 win over visiting Brockway Saturday night.

The Crusaders (3-2 overall, 3-2 AML South) broke open a 1-point halftime lead (7-6) with 20 unanswered points in the third quarter including two touchdowns of 60-plus yards.

Mike Moore got the third-quarter scoring underway in electrifying fashion returning a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and a 14-6 lead 2:15 into the half.

Mastrogiacomo then made it 21-6 with a 67-yard scoring run with 4:15 to go in the third quarter before Nick Brennen caught a 22-yard scoring toss from Andy Herbstritt making it 27-6 a minute later.

Derek McCullough finished off the scoring for ECC with a 38-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Brockway (2-3, 2-3) scored the game’s first touchdown on a 53-yard Armando Fortunato run in the first quarter before ECC took the lead on a 33-yard scamper by Mastrogiacomo.

The Rovers finished the scoring with a 17-yard Andy Linden run late in the fourth quarter.

Fortunato had 79 yards rushing on eight carries, while Dillon Park had 11 totes for 55 yards and Linden 31 on three.

McCullough added four carries for 41 yards for ECC.

HUNTINGDON 24, PUNXSUTAWNEY 7

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Huntingdon built a 17-0 lead in the third quarter on its way to a 24-7 victory over Punxsutawney Friday night in Punxsy.

The Chucks (1-4) lone touchdown came on a 22-yard pass from Zach Smith to Austin Furman in the third quarter.

Smith finished the game 10-for-22 passing for 162 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Furman had six grabs for 111 yards and the touchdown while running twice for nine yards.

BRADFORD 35, ST. MARYS 14

ST. MARYS – The Owls have taken flight.

Ben Walter threw three touchdown passes to lead Bradford to a 35-14 – closer than it looked – win over St. Marys Friday night in St. Marys. Walter finished the night 5-for-8 passing for 90 yards. He also threw an interception.

D9Sports.com has passing stats back through 2001, and no Bradford quarterback had thrown more than two touchdowns in any game during that time. Walter now has five scoring passes this year. The last Owl QB to throw that many was Kevin Rose, who had six in 2001.

Bradford (5-0 overall, 3-0 D9 League) needed all three of Walter’s TD tosses to fight off a pesky St. Marys team that fell to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the D9 League.

The Owls led 21-7 at halftime thanks to two Tyler O’Brien touchdown runs and a 19-yard scoring pass from Walter to Nick Johnson.

But St. Marys made it 21-14 at the end of three quarter thanks to a 15-yard Brian Tamburlin scoring run, Tamburlin’s second touchdown run of the game.

Walter, though, threw two touchdown passes – one to Johnson and one to E.J. Moore in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Steve Butler connected on all five of his extra point attempts for Bradford and has hit 15 in a row, a school record.

O’Brien ran 13 times for 115 yards and the two touchdowns, while Moore toted the ball 12 times for 66 and caught two passes for 58 and the score.

Tamburlin led St. Marys with 24 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns while catching one pass for eight yards.

CAMERON COUNTY 39, OTTO-ELDRED 0

EMPORIUM – Jordan Crane threw four touchdown passes to help Cameron County break a two-game losing streak with a 39-0 win over visiting Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Zoschg also returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown for the Red Raiders (3-2 overall, 3-2 AML North), and Cameron Clingan added a 9-yard touchdown run.

Cameron County, which led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, unofficially out gained Otto-Eldred ( 1-4, 1-4) 290 yards to 59.
