RIDGWAY 28, PORT ALLEGANY 7

PORT ALLEGANY – Jerico Weitzel ran 25 times for 198 yards and two touchdowns to lead Ridgway to a 28-7 win at Port Allegany Saturday afternoon.

Weitzel scored on a first quarter run of 43 yards and then broke a 7-7 halftime tie with a 30-yard scoring run early in the third quarter.

Nick Dickant (41 yards) and Any Aiello (16 yards) added second-half touchdown runs for the Elkers (5-2).

Dickant had 49 yards rushing on six carries while also going 1-for-9 passing for 35 yards. Weitzel caught the one pass for 35 yards and was also 0-for-1 passing.

Port was held to 108 yards of offense with Mark Chelgreen leading the way with 14 carries for 49 yards. Derick Morey was 4-for-16 passing for 49 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Colby Brookens caught three catches for 36 yards including a 19-yard scoring catch late in the first quarter that gave the Gators (2-5) a 7-0 lead.

CENTRAL MOUNTAIN 29, BRADFORD 27

BRADFORD – Ryan Maggs ran for 201 yards to lead Central Mountain to a 29-27 win over Bradford Friday night in Bradford.

It was the second straight loss for the Owls (5-2) after starting the season with five consecutive wins.

Bradford led 14-8 in the first half thanks to two touchdown runs by E.J. Moore, but Ty Traister recovered an offensive fumble in the end zone to give Central Mountain a 15-14 halftime lead.

The Wildcats then made it 22-14 in the third quarter before Taylor O’Brien’s 63-yard drive got the Owls back to within two at 22-20.

But a touchdown pass from Kyle Turchetta to Vinnie Mauck gave Central Mountain a 9-point lead.

Moore’s third touchdown of the game cut the lead to 29-27 with 7:10 left to play, but the Owls couldn’t get any closer.

Moore ran nine times for 141 yards and three touchdowns, while O’Brien had nine for 84 and a score. Ben Walter was 6-for-13 passing for 58 yards.

REDBANK VALLEY 49, A-C VALLEY 14

FOXBURG – Alex Bladel scored five touchdowns to lead Redbank Valley to a 49-14 win at A-C Valley Friday night.

Bladel ran nine times for 127 yards and four touchdowns and caught two passes for 22 yards and a score to help the Bulldogs (5-2 overall, 4-1 KSAC) break a two-game losing streak.

Jake Smith went 10-for-15 passing for 125 yards and a score with Mike Booher catching five passes for 61 yards while also returning a punt 68 yards for a touchdown.

Mike Himes returned a kickoff 82 yards for A-C Valley’s first touchdown, while Robbie Linamen caught a 15-yard scoring pass from brad Rembold. Rembold was 6-for-19 passing for 71 yards and the touchdown. He also caught two passes for 19 yards. Himes ran eight times for 21 yards, was 2-for-3 passing for 19 yards and caught two passes for 35 yards.

Redbank held A-C Valley (0-6, 0-5) to negative 1 yards rushing and 89 total yards. The Falcons have now lost 10 straight.

With the win, Redbank Valley clinched the top seed out of the KSAC in the District 9 Class A Playoffs and a Top Two seed in the D9 Playoffs. 

KANE 21, OTTO-ELDRED 7

KANE – John Bizzak ran for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead Kane to a 21-7 win over visiting Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Kurtis Breese caught a 25-yard touchdown from Travis Bair that gave Otto-Eldred (2-5) a 7-6 lead at halftime.

Bair finished 14-for-31 for 134 yards and a touchdown for Otto, while Breese had five catches for 62 yards and the score. Kyle Armstrong added 48 yards rushing and 17 yards receiving.

Kane had 350 yards of total offense including 300 on the ground. Matt Mix added 10 carries for 57 yards, while Kenny Kane was 4-for-7 passing for 50 yards. Deryk Smith had two catches for 35 yards. 

LAKEVIEW 34, UNION 0

RIMERSBURG – Treven Stoops and Jon Switzer combined for 149 yards rushing and four touchdowns to lead Lakeview to a 34-0 win at Union Friday night.

Stoops had 12 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns, and Switzer toted the ball five times for 74 yards and two scores.

The Sailors had 365 yards on the night with Scot Shilling adding 26 carries for 146 yards.

Union was held to 16 yards of total offense including negative 31 yards rushing.

CURWENSVILLE 55, SMETHPORT 19

CURWENSVILLE – Nick Sipes became the first back in District 9 history and the 41st in Pennsylvania history to eclipse the 5,000-career yards rushing total when he ran for 197 yards and three touchdowns in Curwensville’s 55-19 whitewashing of Smethport Friday night in Curwensville.

Sipes now has 5,141 career rushing yards and 71 touchdowns. He trails only his cousin Kyle Cathcart (73) of Clarion and Clearfield’s Dave Richards (80) in all-time touchdowns in District 9.

Curwensville is now 6-1, while Smethport fell to 0-7.

Curwensville led 35-0 at intermission, enacting the Mercy Rule running clock to start the second half. The Golden Tide amassed 533 yards of offense. Quarterback Shawn Sopic rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown and passed for 106, completing 4 of 6 with two TD passes, a 41-yarder to Evan Olson and a 26-yarder to Brandon McDonald.

Brandon Hess also rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Jon-Marc Burdick rushed for two touchdowns for Smethport.

BROCKWAY 67, SHEFFIELD 7

BROCKWAY – Dillon Park and Andy Linden each ran for over 100 yards to lead Brockway to an easy 67-7 win over visiting Sheffield Friday night.

Park ran 10 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while Linden added 14 carries for 109 and two scores. The Rovers (3-4) had 466 yards of total offense, while Sheffield (1-6) had 49.

The Rovers led 33-7 at halftime, then scored 26 points in the third quarter, including two safeties within a little over two minutes of each other.

CAMERON COUNTY 35, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

ST. MARYS – Pat Catalano rushed 18 times for 115 yards and a touchdown to lead visiting Cameron County (5-2) to a 35-0 win over Elk County Catholic (3-4) in a key D9 Class A Playoff race game Friday night in St. Marys.

The Red Raiders led 12-0 at halftime. Nick Malize returned an interception 50 yards and Sean McManigle hauled in a 29-yard TD pass from quarterback Jordan Crane.

In the fourth quarter, Cameron put the game away with 23 points. Catalano scored on an 8-yard run, John Malizia ran 50 yards for a score and Darrick Mason went in from 1-yard out to set the final score.

Cameron's balanced running attack accounted for 274 yards, led by Catalano. John Malizia gained 79 yards on 10 carries and Cameron Clingan added 41 on eight attempts.

ECC turned the ball over five times and was limited to 140 yards of offense. Mike Moore was the leading rusher with 19 yards on 10 attempts.

BROOKVILLE 41, KEYSTONE 18

BROOKVILLE – Joe Galbraith and Max Kutz combined to run for 241 yards and five touchdowns, as Brookville (6-1) downed visiting Keystone (3-4) 41-18 Friday night.

Galbraith carried the ball 19 times for 164 yards and three scores, while Kutz had 18 carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Shane Heschke added a 10-for-14 passing night for 206 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Ross had five grabs for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Brookville led 21-6 at halftime before Keystone made it 21-12 early in the second half. After that it was all Raiders.

The Raiders picked off Keystone quarterback Ben Black four times, led by Galbraith's two interceptions. Ross and Mohney each added an interception.

Black did throw two long TD passes in the second half, a 68-yarder to Alex Rowan to get within 21-12 and then another one to Rowan covering 65 yards in the fourth quarter. Black finished the night 9-for-17 for 176 yards, the two touchdowns and four interceptions. Rowan caught the two touchdown passes and had two catches for 133 yards.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 13, ST. MARYS 7

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Mike Smiley ran 23 times for 118 yards to help Punxsutawney to a 13-7 win over visiting St. Marys Friday night.

It was the second straight win for the Chucks (3-4).

All of the game's scoring came in the first half. David Pisano put Punxsy up for good with a 1-yard TD run with 7:18 left in the first quarter. Quarterback Zach Smith's 5-yard pass to Mike Decker made it 13-0 with 4:25 left in the second quarter.

St. Marys (1-6) got on the board when quarterback Bryan Dempsey hit Todd Schatz for a 77-yard TD pass with 37.8 seconds left in the half.

St. Marys did out gain Punxsy, 303-245. Brian Tamburlin led the Dutch with 69 yards rushing on 20 carries. Schatz caught six of Dempsey's completions for 114 yards.

Punxsutawney, which improved to 2-1 in the District 9 League, remains in contention to grab a share of the title. The Chucks have a tough road, though, with two straight road games at Brookville and Clearfield.
