OTTO-ELDRED 14, COWANESQUE VALLEY 0

WESTFIELD - Travis Bair threw Otto-Eldred past Cowanesque Valley 14-0 Friday night at Cow Valley.

Bair, who entered the game as the No. 2 passer in D9 with 1,075 yards, was 18-for-30 for 283 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Freer had five grabs for 116 yards, while Kyle Armstrong caught four for 64 and a score. Kurtis Breese added six grabs for 61 yards. Armstrong also had eight carries for 17 yards, while Tod Chaffee had nine for 42 and Anthony Marrone seven for 39. 

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 13, ST. MARYS 0

ST. MARYS - Eric Mastrogiacomo ran 27 times for 128 yards and one touchdown to lead Elk County Catholic to a 13-0 win over rival St. Marys Friday night at Dutch Country Stadium. 

Josh Catelano also scored for the Crusaders (5-5).

Bryan Dempsey was 9-for-20 passing for 95 yards and an interception for St. Marys with Kurt Baumgratz catching five passes for 62 yards. 

WILMINGTON 41, MONITEAU 13

WILMINGTON – Wilmington scoring 21 first quarter points on its way to a 41-13 win over Moniteau Friday night in Wilmington.

The Warriors (6-4), who have dropped four straight since starting at 6-0, trailed 41-0 at halftime.

Clayton Drnek led a Moniteau offense that mustered only 164 yards with 10 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown, while Josh Loos was 2-for-8 passing for 53 yards and a score while running five times for 22 yards. Tyler Armagost was 2-for-4 passing for 28 yards. Dakota Campbell had two catches for 53 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors, who played their third straight game without leading rusher Adam Cousins (knee injury).
Chris Burns led Wilmington with eight carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns, while David Bruno added six totes for 73 yards and a two scores.

Moniteau returns to action in the D9 Class AA playoffs where it will face Karns City, a team it lost to 20-18 to start the losing streak.

BROCKWAY 24, CLEARFIELD 21

BROCKWAY – Matt Pentz threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Varischetti with 3:40 left in the third quarter to lift Brockway to a come-from-behind 24-21 win over visiting Clearfield Friday night.

Clearfield (7-3) built a 21-0 lead 8:52 into the game, but the Rovers defense shut the Bisons downs after that.

Meanwhile, Brockway (6-4) started to chip into the Clearfield lead before the end of the quarter with a 4-yard Dillon Park run to make it 21-6 at the end of the quarter.

The Rovers then got to within 21-18 by halftime thanks to a 12-yard Armando Fortunato run and an 11-yard pass from Pentz to Steffan Hutchins.

Brockway outgained Clearfield 356-252 on the night including 246-97 on the ground. The Bisons also turned the ball over six times including four interceptions.

Varischetti had a huge night for the Rovers running 14 times for 148 yards while also catching the one pass for 51 yards. He was 0-for-4 passing. Pentz was 4-for-7 passing for 110 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while also picking off two passes on defense. Park also had an interception on defense and added 17 carries for 70 yards and the score.

Doug Kephart had a big game for Clearfield catching six passes for 119 yards and a touchdown while running twice for 24 yards. Andrew Janocko was 8-for-19 passing for 155 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He added a rushing touchdown. Isiah Morgan also scored on the ground for the Bisons and ran 18 times for 58 yards.

ALTOONA 40, DUBOIS 7

ALTOONA – Altoona built a 34-0 halftime lead on its way to a 40-7 win over visiting DuBois (1-9) in the Beavers season finale Friday night.

Kyle Bish led the Beavers with two carries for 54 yards including a 48-yard touchdown run while adding two catches for 30 yards. DuBois had 187 yards of total offense. Danny Henry was 7-for-21 passing for 81 yards and three interceptions.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 7, BALD EAGLE AREA 2

WINGATE – Playing without starting quarterback Zach Smith and starting tailback Mike Smiley, Punxsutawney found a way to win Friday night defeating Bald Eagles Area 7-2 at Bald Eagle.

David Pisano had a huge game for the Chucks (4-6) running 21 times for 112 yards and a touchdown while also making eight tackles including a sack on defense and forcing a fumble. His 34-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter proved to be all the points Punxsy needed, as the Chucks limited Bald Eagles to 204 yards of total offense. Pisano’s 112 yards rushing actually accounted for one more yard than Punxsy got as a team.

Bald Eagles’ lone score came when it blocked punt through the end zone in the third quarter.

“It was a great overall team effort,” Punxsy head coach Blake Molina said. “We made three red-zone defensive stands.”

KEYSTONE 16, KANE 8

KANE – Keystone secured the No. 7 seed in the D9 Class A playoffs and a rematch with KSAC rival Redbank Valley with a 16-8 win at Kane Friday night.

Kyle Rhoads’ 30-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the game.

Derek Swartfager and Ben Black each had big night for the Panthers (6-4).

Swartfager ran 25 times for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Black was 12-for-21 passing for 136 yards. Alex Rowan had six catches for 51 yards, while Luca Montana had seven tackles.

Kane was limited to 82 yards of total offense including 10 rushing. Kenny Kane was 9-for-13 passing for 72 yards and two interceptions with Deryk Smith catching four passes for 37 yards. Kenny Kane also ran for a score. 

FOREST HILLS 44, KARNS CITY 21

SIDMAN – Forest Hills ended visiting Karns City’s quest for an undefeated regular season and in the process dropped the Gremlins to the No. 2 seed in the upcoming District 9 Class AA playoffs with a 44-21 win Friday night.

Travis Rearick threw four touchdown passes to pace the Raiders, who scored six straight times after the Gremlins (9-1) took a 7-0 lead.

With the loss the Gremlins will be the second seed in the playoffs behind Brookville and will rematch with rival Moniteau in the postseason.

Cameron Turner had three catches for 117 yards and a touchdown to lead the Gremlins, while Marcus LaVan ran 14 times for 88 yards. Levi Buck and Matt Endlish also added scorin runs for Karns City. Endlish was 4-for-11 passing for 88 yards and three picks, while Anthony Stimac was 2-for-3 passing for 62 yards and a touchdown.

MARION CENTER 7, REDBANK VALLEY 0

MARION CENTER – In a meaningless regular-season finale for both teams, Marion Center held off visiting Redbank Valley 7-0 Friday night.

Alex Bladel, the third leading rusher in District 9, carried the ball just 12 times for 28 yards for the Bulldogs (7-3), who were shutout for the second time this season. Jake Smith accounted for most of Redbank’s 149 yards of offense going 8-for-24 passing for 106 yards and three interceptions.

Redbank Valley will host Keystone in a rematch of a Week One game in the opening round of the D9 Class A Playoffs next weekend. The Bulldogs won that first game 13-0.

REYNOLDS 50, A-C VALLEY 15

TRANSFER – A-C Valley lost its 13th straight game 50-15 to previously winless Reynolds Friday night at Reynolds.

The Falcons (0-9) trailed 29-0 at the end of the first quarter and 36-0 at halftime.

Brandon Eiler caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Brad Rembold for A-C Valley, while Luke Heeter scored on a 7-yard run. Mike Himes led the Falcons with seven carries for 37 yards while Rembold was 9-for-17 passing for 33 yards.

Brandon Wolfe returned a punt and a free kick for touchdowns for Reynolds (1-9), while Jon Uhrin had nine carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Seth Allison added 10 carries for 116 yards and one touchdown.
