2006 DISTRICT 9 FOOTBALL PREVIEW

2006 Ultimate D9 High School Road Trip

SHIPPENVILLE – The 2006 High School football season kicks off Friday night, and it should be another year of exciting football around District 9.

Here’s a team-by-team look at the 2006 season including our predictions of how the teams will finish in the regular season (only counting games that are currently scheduled). The breakdown is in alphabetical order by school.

A-C VALLEY FALCONS

Head Coach: Randy Lemmon

2005 Record: 1-8 overall, 1-6 KSAC

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class AA

Key returning players: QB Brad Rembold (64 of 176, 752 yards, 4 TDs, 17 Ints), RB Mike Himes (26 carries, 113 yards, 1 TD), WR Ryan Wadlow (5 catches, 102 yards), OL Alec Wagner, OL Ryan McBride.

2006 key question: Will the Falcons be able to turn things around? A-C Valley, which co-ops with Cranberry, hasn’t had a winning season since 1999 (7-4) and has gone 10-43 since then including 6-39 since 2001. Last year, the Falcons scored just 60 points and were shutout four times. Brad Rembold from Cranberry returns as the QB but he must cut down on his interceptions (17). Alec Wagner and Ryan McBride give the Falcons experience on the line, but many of last year’s skill players are gone.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 0-9 overall, 0-7 KSAC

BRADFORD OWLS

Head Coach: Steve Ackerman

2005 Record: 3-6 overall, 2-3 D9 League

Conference/Classification: D9 League/Class AAA

Key returning players: QB Ben Walter (38 of 93, 548 yards, 3 TDs, 5 Ints; 112 yards rushing, 3 TDs); RB Taylor O’Brien (54 carries, 338 yards, 1 TD); RB Nick Johnson (51 carries, 233 yards, 5 TDs), WR Tommy Morris (15 catches, 204 yards); WR Nick Foster (8 catches, 128 yards), K/P Steve Butler.

2006 key question: With 14 players with starting experience, is Bradford ready to reclaim the D9 Class AAA top spot? The Owls have won three D9 Class AAA crowns since 2000 but haven’t been to the top since 2003 and didn’t even go to the playoffs last year suffering its first losing season since 1998 and its fewest wins since 1997. But with the experience back, this could be the year they reclaim the top spot.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 7-2 overall, 3-2 D9 League

BROCKWAY ROVERS

Head Coach: Ray Reckner

2005 Record: 8-4 overall, 6-3 AML South (D9 Class AA Champions)

Conference/Classification: AML South (Class AA)

Key returning players: QB/DB Anthony Varischetti (80-for-160, 1,280 yards, 13 TDs, 11 Ints; 9 Interceptions on defense); RB Dillon Park (54 carries, 294 yards, 3 TDs; 15 catches, 329 yards, 3 TDs).

2006 key question: Will the Rovers make Ray Reckner’s final season a happy one? Reckner is in his 21st and final season as Brockway’s coach and has led the Rovers to three titles (all coming in the past four years including last season). To do that, newcomers will have to step up because Brockway has only 13 returning letterwinners from last year’s title team, although one of those is starting QB/DB Anthony Varischetti who was the first QB in school history to throw for over 1,000 yards.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 5-5 overall, 5-4 AML South

BROOKVILLE RAIDERS

Head Coach: Chris Dworek

2005 Record: 4-6 overall, 2-3 D9 League

Conference/Classification: D9 League/Class AA

Key returning players: RB Max Kutz (113 carries, 605 yards, 8 TDs), RB Joe Galbraith 74 carries, 316 yards, 4 TDs), WR Tyler Ross (22 catches, 397 yards, 4 TDs), C/G Eli Morress (6-6, 275 pounds)

2006 key question: Is this the year Brookville reclaims the D9 Class AA title it won in 2004? It very well may be with 21 letterwinners back from last year’s team and many of the other D9 Class AA teams rebuilding, the Raiders could claim their second title in three seasons and just their third since 1996.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 5-5 overall, 2-3 D9 League

CAMERON COUNTY RED RAIDERS

Head Coach: Tony Defillipi

2005 Record: 3-6 overall, 3-6 AML North

Conference/Classification: AML North/Class A

Key returning players: QB Jordan Crane (49 of 109, 648 yards, 6 TDs, 5 Ints); RB/QB John Malizia (88 carries, 451 yards, 8 TDs); RB Cash Grimone (34 carries, 234 yards, 4 TDs; 4 catches, 86 yards, 2 TDs); RB Cameron Clingan (42 carries, 256 yards, 1 TD; 6 catches, 103 yards, 1 TD); RB Abram Zoschg (50 carries, 242 yards, 2 TDs; 7 catches, 97 yards).

2006 key question: Will a young team take the next step to the D9 playoffs? Last year, Cameron went 3-6 with a young team under Tony Defillipi who was in his first year as head coach. With another year of Defillipi’s system under their belt plus an influx of young athletic talent that helped the Cameron County Senior League baseball team advance to the state championship’s final round this could be the year the Raiders return to the postseason for the first time since winning the D9 Class A title in 1999.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 3-6 overall, 3-6 AML North

CLARION BOBCATS

Head Coach: Larry Wiser

2005 Record: 9-3 overall, 6-1 KSAC (KSAC Tri-champions)

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class A

Key returning players: RB Brad Rapp (39 carries, 357 yards, 3 TDs), FB Eric Grejda (48 carries, 286 yards, 2 TDs), WR Tyler Schwab (8 catches, 167 yards, 2 TDs), OT Scott Larson (6-8, 265), OG Jeff Wiant (6-0, 240), center Adam Dolby (6-1, 210).

2006 key question: Will this be the year the Bobcats finally win their second District 9 title? Clarion has been in this position before a few times over the last eight years. Many believe they have the talent to win the district and go deep into the state playoffs. But winning the D9 title is the first goal. After all, Clarion has been to the D9 title game three times since 1999 losing all three including last year to Coudersport. This could be that year with young but talented skill players and an offensive line that average 6-3, 240 pounds and is athletic.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 9-1 overall, 7-0 KSAC

CLARION-LIMESTONE LIONS

Head Coach: Todd Smith

2005 Record: 9-2 overall, 6-1 KSAC (KSAC Tri-champions)

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class A

Key returning players: RB Matt Hetrick (44 carries, 190 yards; 21 catches, 150 yards, 2 TDs), RB Andy Wilson (28 carries, 47 yards; 10 catches, 127 yards, 2 TDs), RB Justin Murray (13 catches, 127 yards, 1 TD).

2006 key question: Will this be the year the Lions reign at the top of the KSAC ends? C-L has won at least a share of the KSAC title in each of the last four years while never finish with more than one regular-season loss while going a combined 43-6 over that time including 31-5 under Smith, who’s in his fourth year as head coach after being an assistant. But injuries, graduation and the transfer of starting QB Scott Davis could mean an end to the Lions run. Gone from last year is 84 percent of the offense and 3/5th of the offensive line. C-L is starting a freshman (Dan Miller) at QB and expects contributions from a couple of other freshmen. They’ve also been hit hard by injuries both over the summer and in camp.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 3-6 overall, 3-4 KSAC

CLEARFIELD BISONS

Head Coach: Tim Janocko

2005 Record: 6-4 overall, 3-2 D9 League, 4-3 MAC (D9 Class AAA Champions)

Conference/Classification: D9 League & Mountain Athletic Conference/Class AAA

Key returning players: QB Andrew Janocko (136 of 239, 56.9%, 1,682 yards, 15 TDs, 9 Ints), TE Adam Jury (25 catches, 315 yards, 2 TDs), WR Doug Kephart (10 catches, 163 yards, 5 TDs; 9 carries, 99 yards, 1 TD), OL John Bowman, OL Scott Heichel, OL Tyler Kirkwood.

2006 key question: How good can Andrew Janocko be? In his first year as the starting QB, Janocko led District 9 in passing yards while finishing third in TDs. With another year under his belt, he should be even better in 2006 as the Bisons look to repeat as D9 Class AAA champions.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 9-1 overall, 5-0 D9 League, 4-1 MAC

COUDERSPORT FALCONS

Head Coach: Paul Simcoe

2005 Record: 13-1 overall, 9-0 AML North (Champions of AML North, AML, D9 Class A; PIAA semifinals)

Conference/Classification: AML North/Class A

Key returning players: RB Sam Decker (121 carries, 785 yards, 12 TDs; 24 catches, 470 yards, 5 TDs), QB Boomer Wetzel (63 of 118, 1,274 yards, 16 TDs, 11 Ints), RB Chris Cavallari (29 carries, 248 yards, 3 TDs; 10 catches, 148 yards, 2 TDs), TE Logan Hathaway (7 catches, 139 yards, 5 TDs), OT Kirk Duffee, C Isaac Cary, OG Kody Frederick.

2006 key question: Can Sam Decker be the main man? Last year, Decker was a key compliment in the backfield to David Babcock (1,662 yards rushing, 26 TDs; 303 receiving yards, 4 TDs), who was the D9Sports.com District 9 Player of the Year. Decker, who had, 1,313 total yards of offense, will be looked upon to increase those numbers this year and could be primed for a record-setting season.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 9-0 overall, 9-0 AML North

CURWENSVILLE GOLDEN TIDE

Head Coach: Andy Evanko

2005 Record: 8-3 overall, 7-2 AML South (AML South Champions)

Conference/Classification: AML South/Class A

Key returning players: RB Nick Sipes (242 carries, 1,857 yards – 1st in D9 –, 30 TDs), QB Shawn Sopic (4-year starter; 44 of 106, 759 yards, 8 TDs, 8 Ints; 61 carries, 213 yards, 3 TDs), RB Brandon Hess (61 carries, 510 yards, 4 TDs), RB Ben McGary (32 carries, 125 yards, 1 TD), WR Cody Botzman (14 catches, 346 yards, 3 TDs), OG Nathan Russell.

2006 key question: How healthy is Nick Sipes knee? Sipes played last year with a torn ACL and had surgery on it in the off-season. Evanko believes Sipes will be ready for the season opener against Coudersport but that isn’t a 100 percent guarantee. Once he is healthy, Sipes could end up re-writing the D9 record book. He needs 24 yards to become the fourth back in D9 history to gain 4,000 career rushing yards, and he’s 719 yards away from breaking Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio’s District 9 record of 4,694 yards. He’s also 28 touchdowns shy of breaking Clearfield’s Dave Richard’s D9 touchdown record of 80. Sipes currently has 3,976 career yards and 53 touchdowns while averaging 8.1 yards per carry in his career.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 8-1 overall, 8-1 AML South

DUBOIS BEAVERS

Head Coach: Jason Shilala

2005 Record: 8-2 overall, 5-0 D9 League (D9 League Champions)

Conference/Classification: D9 League/Class AAAA

Key returning players: RB Mark Malacarne (99 carries, 947 yards, 11 TDs; 29 catches, 446 yards, 4 TDs), WR Taylor Kriner (14 catches, 224 yards, 4 TDs), OL Cody Royer (6-1, 221), OL Pat Lydick (6-3, 233).

2006 key question: Is this a reloading year or a rebuilding year for the Beavers? DuBois had a dream-like season last year winning its first eight games and only losing to traditional state powers Altoona and Erie Cathedral Prep. But many of the key players from that team have graduated, and the development of the players taking their place will go a long way in determining the team’s success in 2006.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 7-3 overall, 4-1 D9 League

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC CRUSADERS

Head Coach: Keith Lecker

2005 Record: 5-5 overall, 5-4 AML South

Conference/Classification: AML South/Class A

Key returning players: Derek McCullough (34 carries, 168 yards, 1 TD; 10 catches, 83 yards, 3 TDs), Eric Mastrogiacomo (14 carries, 95 yards, 1 TD; 6 catches, 56 yards).

2006 key question: Will the new skill players help the Crusaders back to the postseason? ECC has made the playoffs in each of the last two years but must replace some talented skill players including QB Kyle Mahoney (now playing WR at Clarion U.), RB Anthony Mastrogiacomo and wide receiver Kevin Genevro. Andy Herbstritt takes over at QB, with Eric Mastrogiacomo – Anthony’s younger brother – and Derek McCullough at running back

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 6-4 overall, 6-3 AML South

JOHNSONBURG RAMS

Head Coach: Tom Launer

2005 Record: 6-4 overall, 6-3 AML South

Conference/Classification: AML South/Class A

Key returning players: QB Calvin Grumley (Makes moves from RB; 45 carries, 335 yards, 5 TDs; 5 catches, 89 yards), HB Jesse Dennis (31 carries, 123 yards, 1 TD; 8 catches, 131 yards, 2 TDs), RB Judd Zilcosky (31 carries, 152 yards, 1 TD; 9 catches, 152 yards, 1 TD).

2006 key question: Will Calvin Grumley stay healthy? When healthy, Grumley is one of the top players in District 9 without question. But last year, he missed four games with an injury. This season, he moves to QB so staying healthy becomes that much more important.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 6-3 overall, 6-3 AML South

KANE WOLVES

Head Coach: Jason Barner

2005 Record: 5-5 overall, 5-4 AML South

Conference/Classification: AML South/Class A

Key returning players: QB Zach Anderson (113 of 191, 59.2%, 1,494 yards, 10 TDs, 12 Ints; 61 carries, 101 yards, 6 TDs), TE, John Bizzak (36 catches, 693 yards, 4 TDs), RB Matt Mix (27 carries, 169 yards, 2 TDs), RB Dustin Moran (25 carries, 139 yards).

2006 key question: Will the team continue to be competitive under new head coach Jason Barner? Rick Bouch turned Kane into a team no one wanted to play since 2000 with the Wolves turning in four regular-season-winning marks in six seasons. Now Barner, who was an assistant under Bouch, takes the reigns. Outside of 1-8 records in 2001 and 2004, Kane has gone 27-14 overall in the four winning seasons. Having QB Zach Anderson, who was the third leading passer in D9 in ’05, and TE John Bizzak, who was the second leading receiver in D9 in ’05, is a big help for Barner.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 5-5 overall, 5-4 AML South

KARNS CITY GREMLINS

Head Coach: Ed Conto

2005 Record: 7-3 overall, 6-1 KSAC (KSAC Tri-champions)

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class AA

Key returning players: FB Joy Everetts (65 carries, 343 yards, 2 TDs), WR Justin Switzer (16 catches, 356 yards, 2 TDs), TE Cameron Turner (11 catches, 163 yards, 1 TD).

2006 key question: How fast will the young offensive line mature? Karns City has just one upperclassmen (sr. D.J. Ekis) listed as an offensive lineman on its roster with the rest being sophomores. The development of the line will go a long way in determining if the Gremlins challenge for the KSAC and the D9 Class AA crown in 2006.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 5-5 overall, 5-2 KSAC

KEYSTONE PANTHERS

Head Coach: Jason Nellis

2005 Record: 2-7 overall, 2-5 KSAC

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class A

Key returning players: RB Derek Swartfager (626 yards rushing, 3 TDs), RB Mike Switzer (moving from QB – 104 yards rushing, 4 TDs, 814 yards passing, 9 TDs), WR Alex Rowan (13 catches, 213 yards, 3 TDs).

2006 key question: Are the Panthers going to be the surprise team of 2006? Despite consecutive 2-7 seasons, some believe the Panthers are ready to challenge for a spot in the top half of the KSAC this year. The skill is certainly there with sophomore Ben Black, the younger brother of one of the all-time best QB’s in D9 Adam Black, calling the signals. Mike Switzer, last year’s QB, moves to RB where he’s joined by Derek Swartfager. Kyle Rhoads and Alex Rowan give the Panthers formidable receivers. The questions will be the development of the line.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 4-6 overall, 3-4 KSAC

MONITEAU WARRIORS

Head Coach: Steve Wilson

2005 Record: 6-6 overall, 3-4 KSAC

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class AA

Key returning players: RB Adam Cousins (143 carries, 666 yards, 5 TDs; 12 catches, 180 yards, 1 TD); TE Cruz Eshenbaugh (4 catches, 43 yards), RB Kyle Mauthe (19 carries, 82 yards).

2006 key question: Will the Warriors take the long anticipated step up toward the top of the KSAC or will they continue to play .500 ball? Since Steve Wilson took over as head coach in 2002, Moniteau has gone 21-21 despite many believing they would challenge for a KSAC title. The closest the Warriors came was in 2003 when they went 6-2 in the conference. This year they have to replace their starting QB (Garth Kohlmeyer) and top runner (Matt Schandelmeier) among others.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 5-5 overall, 3-4 KSAC

OTTO-ELDRED TERRORS

Head Coach: Kerry Snow

2005 Record: 3-7 overall, 2-7 AML North

Conference/Classification: AML North/Class A

Key returning players: QB Travis Bair (68 of 190, 1,219 yards, 11 TDs, 19 Ints), RB Chad Bova (96 carries, 550 yards, 4 TDs, 23 catches, 432 yards, 4 TDs), RB Tod Chaffee (56 carries, 238 yards), OG Robbie Root.

2006 key question: Is this the year Otto-Eldred finally makes it to the D9 Playoffs? The Terrors have never been to the postseason, but with 12 seniors and 11 returning starters this could be the year that drought ends. The one question mark is on the line where all but one starter from last year has graduated.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 4-5 overall, 4-5 AML North

PORT ALLEGANY GATORS

Head Coach: Mike Bodamer

2005 Record: 7-3 overall, 7-2 AML North

Conference/Classification: AML North/Class A

Key returning players: SE R.J. Shively (14 catches, 239 yards, 1 TD), RB Chad Saltsman (19 carries, 122 yards), RB Nick Nichols (14 carries, 93 yards, 2 TDs), OL Josh Guerrero (6-0, 210), C Kord Kinney (6-0, 230), OT Josh Saltsman (5-11, 240).

2006 key question: Who’s the next great feature back for the Gators? Port Allegany has a pretty solid tradition at running back, especially over the last few years. For the last three years, the Gators have had a 1,000-yard rusher (Cody Anderson in ’05 & ’04; Claude Haskins in ’03) and in 2002 Adam Rohrer (842 yards) nearly broke the century mark. Chad Saltsman and Nick Nichols will look to replace Anderson. But Anderson isn’t the only skill player needing replaced. Also gone at three-year starting QB Willie Bova and RB Bobby Nichols. All three are playing at Thiel College this fall. The good news is three returning offensive linemen including center Kord Kinney and tackle Josh Saltsman.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 5-4 overall, 5-4 AML North

PUNXSUTAWNEY CHUCKS

Head Coach: Blake Moilan

2005 Record: 0-10 overall, 0-5 D9 League, 0-5 MAC

Conference/Classification: D9 League, Mountain Athletic Conference/Class AAA

Key returning players: QB Zack Smith (59 of 138, 824 yards, 4 TDs, 11 Ints), RB Mike Smiley (35 carries, 122 yards, 1 TD; 26 catches, 395 yards), RB David Pisano (82 carries, 283 yards, 3 TDs; 6 catches, 95 yards), WR Austin Furman (20 catches, 311 yards, 3 TDs; 45 carries, 181 yards, 1 TD), OL Garrett Beatty (5-10, 225).

2006 key question: Can the Chucks buy a win? Punxsy was one of three District 9 teams to go winless in 2005 (Union and Sheffield were the others) and its lost 13 in a row since a 25-14 win over Lewistown Oct. 8, 2004. Since their last winning season in 2002 (6-5), the Chucks have gone 4-23. To help change things a bit on offense, where Chucks scored just 100 points in 10 games, Moilan has switched from a Wing-T to the I-formation and likes the way his linemen were getting off the ball in camp.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 1-9 overall, 0-5 D9 League, 0-5 MAC

REDBANK VALLEY BULLDOGS

Head Coach: Ed Wasilowski

2005 Record: 5-5 overall, 4-3 KSAC

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class A

Key returning players: OL Dan Jordan, OL Brock Reed, OL Tony Bish, OL Shane Bowser.

2006 key question: How will the Bulldogs fair in Class A? The last couple of years, Redbank Valley has been a Class AA team when Class AA probably hasn’t been as strong in D9 as Class A. Now that the Bulldogs are down a class, can they still make the playoffs? To do so, they have to replace one of the top backs in school history (Skyler Smith) while relying on an experienced line that returns five starters.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 7-3 overall, 6-1 KSAC

RIDGWAY ELKERS

Head Coach: Mark Morelli

2005 Record: 1-8 overall, 1-8 AML South

Conference/Classification: AML South/Class A

Key returning players: QB Nick Dickant (23 of 63, 3-8 yards, 3 TDs, 5 Ints; 2 rushing TDs), Jake Havens (93 carries, 340 yards, 2 TDs; 4 catches, 24 yards), OT Dan Lindgren (6-2, 225), G Ben Thompson (6-1, 215), G Troy Betts (5-10, 210), C Nate Eberly (6-0, 205).

2006 key question: Will the Elkers return to their winning ways or will the hard times of the past two years continue? Since going 8-2 in 2003 and making the D9 playoffs, Ridgway is 3-16 the last two seasons after having had just two losing seasons between 1972 and 2003. There is reason for optimism in town with 15 returning starters back from last year including quarterback Nick Dickant, who head coach Mark Morelli believes is ready to break out in 2006.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 3-6 overall, 3-6 AML South

SHEFFIELD WOLVERINES

Head Coach: Scott Park

2005 Record: 0-9 overall, 0-10 AML North

Conference/Classification: AML North/Class AA

Key returning players: QB Jordan Copley (70 of 176, 1,011 yards, 5 TDs, 24 Ints; 93 carries, 97 yards, 3 TDs), WR Jason Borst (34 catches, 678 yards, 5 TDs), RB Matt Bryant (84 carries, 183 yards, 2 TDs; 19 catches, 207 yards), RB Michael Bryant (Moving from WR; 4 catches, 67 yards)

2006 key question: Can the Wolverines break an 11-game losing streak? Sheffield’s last win came 29-0 over Johnsonburg Oct. 30, 2004. The Wolverines don’t have the Co-op with Abraxas anymore, as Abraxas dropped all of its athletic programs. The good news is key skill players return, but those players will have to perform better than last including QB Jordan Copley, who threw for over 1,000 yards in ’05 but also tossed 24 interceptions. Sheffield also hopes to run the ball better this season after gaining just 443 yards and scoring five touchdowns in all of 2005.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 0-9 overall, 0-9 AML North

SMETHPORT HUBBERS

Head Coach: Rob Cosper

2005 Record: 3-6 overall, 3-6 AML North

Conference/Classification: AML North/Class A

Key returning players: FB Tom Cooney (101 carries, 374 yards, 4 TDs; 2 catches, 37 yards), OT/DT Tom Clark (6-4, 240), C/LB Brandon Conner (5-8, 165), WB Matt Luther (8 catches, 81 yards), OT/DE Logan Linnan (6-2, 205), G/LB Tim Rooke (6-0, 175).

2006 key question: Will the Hubbers return to the top of the pack in D9 or will their fall from grace continue? From 1991 to 1998 Smethport won five D9 Class A titles while playing for seven. Since 2002, however, the Hubbers have been pedestrian at best going 14-23 during that stretch and making the D9 playoffs just once (2004) and that was a one-and-out deal. The Hubbers haven’t played for D9 title since beating C-L in 1998.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 1-8 overall, 1-8 AML North

ST. MARYS FLYING DUTCHMEN

Head Coach: Joe Schlimm

2005 Record: 5-5 overall, 3-2 D9 League

Conference/Classification: D9 League/Class AAA

Key returning players: FB/OLB Brian Tamburlin (124 carries, 764 yards, 10 TDs), RB/OLB Todd Schatz.

2006 key question: Can St. Marys build upon its first winning regular-season in 20 years? To do so, they will have to rely on a new core of skill players with only returning rusher Brian Tamburlin back.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 4-6 overall, 1-4 D9 League

UNION GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Head Coach: Tom Kidder

2005 Record: 0-9 overall, 0-7 KSAC

Conference/Classification: KSAC/Class A

Key returning players: QB Zach Himes (8 of 26, 169 yards, 2 TDs, 2 Ints), QB Josh Holden (1 of 8, 11 yards, 3 Ints), RB Colby Davis (62 carries, 393 yards, 2 TDs), RB Kasey Kriebel (26 carries, 107 yards; 3 catches, 41 yards), RB Nate Boltz (21 carries, 99 yards; 3 catches, 119 yards, 2 TDs), WR Brett Moore (11 catches, 204 yards, 2 TDs)

2006 key question: Can the Golden Knights break a 30-game losing streak? They last won a game Oct. 10, 2002, 20-6 over West Shamokin. This is Kidder’s third season in Rimersburg, and he seems to have the Knights headed in the right direction with plenty of skill players back in 2006.

D9Sports.com predicted 2006 record: 1-8 overall, 1-6 KSAC
