CLARION PICKED TO WIN KSAC |
CLARION – Clarion is the unanimous choice to win the 2006 Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference football championship in voting by the league’s coaches. The Bobcats, who finished 6-1 in the KSAC last year and were Tri-champions of the league with Clarion-Limestone and Karns City, received seven first-place votes, the maximum they could have received in the voting conducted in a joint venture by D9Sports.com and the Oil City Derrick. Each of the league’s eight coaches got one vote with the only criteria being they couldn’t vote for their own team. Karns City was the hands down pick to finish second receiving one first-place vote, four second-place votes and one third-place tally. After that, the league coaches were split on their next three choices with Redbank Valley getting the nod for third place, Moniteau fourth and Clarion-Limestone fifth. Keystone was the clear choice for sixth place followed by Union, who is looking to snap a 30-game losing streak, with A-C Valley brining up the rear. Clarion has won two straight KSAC titles after sharing the championship with C-L in 2004. C-L has won at least a share of the KSAC title the last four seasons, while Karns City’s title last year was its first since 2001. Redbank Valley hasn’t won a league championship since 1996, while Keystone’s last title was in 1989 when the league was still known as the Little 12. Moniteau has never won a league title. Union last won in 1984, and A-C Valley is still looking for its first championship. The 2006 football season kicks off Sept. 1 with three KSAC games and two non-conference contests. Clarion is at A-C Valley, Moniteau is at C-L, Keystone is at Redbank Valley, Karns City is at St. Marys and Union is at Cambridge Springs. All games but the Moniteau-C-L game start at 7 p.m. with the Moniteau-C-L game kicking off at 7:30 p.m. |
