SHIPPENVILLE – Shawn Ellenberger of Cameron County is the D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the Week for Week Three of the 2007 season after helping the Red Raiders snap Coudersport’s 21-game regular-season win streak Friday night.

Ellenberger played a huge role on both sides of the ball for Cameron County (3-0) coming up with three sacks on defense while helping to disrupt numerous other plays as the Red Raiders held Coudersport to negative 46 yards rushing on the night. On offense, he played guard was the leader on an offensive line that allowed Cameron to rush for 184 yards and a touchdown while racking up 273 total yards of offense in a 28-16 win at Coudersport.

Ellenberger is the first Cameron County player to be named D9Sports.com Player of the Week in the eight years of the award. With his honoring, just three schools currently playing in District 9 have not had a Player of the Week.

The choice of Ellenberger wasn’t an easy one as many other players around District 9 had big nights Friday including Brookville’s Shawn Heschke accounting for 300 yards of offense, Redbank Valley’s Jake Smith throwing for 300 yards, Otto-Eldred’s Kurtis Breese had over 200 yards receiving and Bradford’s Taylor O’Brien running for four touchdowns. Those three players are among 15 additional players who make up the District 9 Honor Roll this week. The honor roll recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by school.

D9Sports.Com is an entirely volunteer web site in its eighth year of covering athletics within the PIAA’s District 9 located at www.d9sports.com. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by D9Sports.Com’s editors.

The awards, which are given from Week One through Week 10, are the only weekly awards given out in District 9 that represent the district as a whole.
