SHIPPENVILLE Redbank Valleys Jake Smith is the D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the Week for Week Four of the 2007 season after leading the Bulldogs on both sides of the football in a 41-20 win over Clarion Friday night. Smith accounted for 319 yards of offense while also being a key to the Redbank Valley defense in the victory. He was 16-for-25 passing for 248 yards and two touchdowns while adding 20 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he had nine tackles and an interception and his insertion into the lineup at safety helped slow the Clarion run game after the Bobcats ran wild at the start of the game. It marks the fourth time in the eight years of the award that a Redbank Valley player has earned the award and the first time since Week Eight of the 2005 season when Skyler Smith shared the award with St. Marys Brian Tamburlin. Smith got strong competition this week from Brockways Matt Pentz, who passes for 211 yards and five touchdowns in the Rovers 41-21 win over Smethport. Pentz joins 14 additional players on the District 9 Honor Roll this week. The honor roll recipients are listed below. D9Sports.Com is an entirely volunteer web site in its eighth year of covering athletics within the PIAAs District 9 located at www.d9sports.com. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. The site covers all 26 football teams playing in District 9. For more information on the site, please visit it or e-mail the staff at d9sports@usachoice.net. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by D9Sports.Coms editors. The awards, which are given from Week One through Week 10, are the only weekly awards given out in District 9 that represent the district as a whole.
