SHIPPENVILLE – Redbank Valley senior quarterback Jake Smith is the final RRR Roadhouse D9sports.com District 9 Football Player of the Week for 2007 season.

Smith, who won the award for the second time this season, had a monster game in the Bulldogs 41-12 win over Marion Center in Friday night’s Week 10 regular-season ender. He accounted for five of Redbank Valley’s six touchdowns and 302 of the Bulldogs 425 yards while breaking two single-season school records and tying the school’s career touchdown mark.

Finishing the game 17-for-26 passing for 269 yards and four touchdowns, Smith also ran eight times for 33 yards and a touchdown. He broke R.J. Dick’s school record for touchdown passes in a season (22) by firing his 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd scoring tosses of the year and also surpassed Dick’s single-season passing mark of 1,627 yards. Smith now has 1,695 yards. In the process, Smith also tied Dick’s career passing touchdowns mark at Redbank Valley with 38.

Smith will get a chance to add to his records this weekend when Redbank Valley (9-1) hosts Elk County Catholic in the opening round of the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Bulldogs, who are looking for their first District 9 title since winning the Class AA crown in 1996, are the No. 2 seed in the 8-team tournament.

In addition to Smith, 15 District 9 players appear on the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com District 9 Honor Roll this week.
