David Kalgren's TD run and 2-point conversion run with 19 seconds left lifted Curwensville to a 29-27 win over visiting Johnsonburg

CURWENSVILLE – David Kalgren’s touchdown run and subsequent 2-point conversion run with 19 seconds left lifted Curwensville to its first win of the season 29-27 over visiting Johnsonburg Friday night.

Zane Zelehoski, who ran 22 times for 165 yards and three touchdowns, had given Johnsonburg (1-4 overall, 1-4 AML South) a 27-21 lead on a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter before Kalgren, who ran for 31 yards and threw for 43, came up big late.

The game was back-and-forth all night long with each team answering the other team’s touchdowns throughout the game.

Curwensville scored first on a 1-yard Cory Bloom run midway through the second quarter.

The teams then exchanged three touchdowns in the final 4:07 of the half with Johnsonburg taking a 14-13 halftime lead on a 3-yard scoring pass from Zach Padasak to Ren Yonker with one second left in the half.

Zelehoski had tied the game at seven on an 11-yard run with 4:07 to play before Jed Greslick’s 4-yard scoring run with 1:11 left gave Curwensville a 13-7 lead.

Johnsonburg extended the lead to 20-13 early in the third quarter when Zelehoski scored on a 33-yard run.

But Curwensville came back and took a 21-20 lead when Nick Opaliski scored on a 15-yard run, and Ben McGary scored the 2-point conversion.

Greslick led Curwensville with 18 carries for 140 yards, while McGary had nine fore 38.

Mark Myers had 13 tackles for Johnsonburg.
