ST. MARYS – Jarrin Campman ran for two touchdowns, threw for a touchdown and returned a fumble for a touchdown to lead Clearfield to a 28-13 win at St. Marys in a key non-conference matchup between two District 9 Class AAA teams.

The victory moves Clearfield to 5-3 on the season tied with St. Marys, which dropped to 5-3, for the second seed in the District 9 Class AAA playoffs and 1.5 games back of Bradford for the top seed. Clearfield can clinch the top seed only if Bradford loses its final two games and Clearfield wins its final two. St. Marys, meanwhile, needs Clearfield to lose at least once while winning out to get the No. 2 seed. The Dutch could claim the top seed if Clearfield loses once and Bradford twice.

To get to the point where it has a shot at the top seed, Clearfield found a way to win at slugfest with St. Marys.

The teams traded a pair of touchdowns in the first half with Clearfield holding a 14-13 lead at halftime.

Campman then hit his favorite receiver, Drew Hipps, with a 56-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter to make it 21-13 before Campman returned a fumbled exchanged two yards for a touchdown late in the quarter to give the Bisons some breathing room.

Clearfield’s defense made that lead hold up holding St. Marys to four yards of offense in the second half including negative six on the ground after the Dutch had rolled up 122 yards of offense in the first half.

Most of St. Marys’ yards – 111 to be exact – came on two long first-half touchdown runs by the Dutch.

Todd Schatz, continuing his second half of the season surge, but St. Marys ahead 7-0 3:13 into the game on a 54-yard scoring jaunt.

Campman tied the game midway through the second quarter on an 11-yard run before Jeremy Williams put St. Marys back ahead 13-7 with a 57-yard scoring run with 4:01 left in the first half.

Clearfield and Campman answered back before halftime taking the 14-13 lead on a 4-yard Campman run and Parker Herrington’s extra point with 42 seconds left before the break.

Campman led Clearfield with 24 carries for 102 yards while going 10-for-22 passing for 130 yards and a touchdown. Hipps caught three passes for 74 yards and a score.

Williams led St. Marys with eight carries for 64 yards and a touchdown, while Schatz had seven totes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
