SHEFFIELD – Cameron County won its first-ever AML North title and its first AML divisional title since 1999 with a 67-8 pasting of Sheffield Saturday afternoon at Sheffield.

The 67 points were the most for the Red Raiders (8-0 overall, 8-0 AML North) since they beat Ridgway 72-6 in 1999, which was the last time Cameron County won an AML divisional title (AML South). The 67 points are also the third most in school history (72-0 over St. Leos in 1925).

Cameron scored on its first seven possessions and had its backups in the game before Sheffield managed positive yards. The Red Raiders led 35-0 at the end of the first quarter and 47-0 at halftime.

Abram Zoschg led the way for Cameron County with five carries for 71 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Crane (4-for-5 passing, 85 yards; 2 carries, 14 yards) also threw two touchdowns and ran for a third. Randy Schatz added six carries for 66 yards, and Andy Lippert scored two touchdowns – a 53-yard run and a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. He ran five times for 68 yards.

A 27-yard Jordan Copley to James Hahn pass in the third quarter accounted for Sheffield’s lone score. Copley was 3-for-10 passing for 55 yards and three touchdown while running five times for a team-high seven yards.

Cameron County’s defense limited Sheffield to 54 yards of total offense including negative 22 rushing on 18 carries. The Wolverines (1-7, 1-7) were 4-for-31 passing with two interceptions and turned the ball over three times in the game.

The 67 points allowed were the most given up by Sheffield since Oct. 13, 2006, when Brockway beat the Wolverines 67-7.

NOTES - Cameron County, which is at Johnsonburg next week, will travel to Kane Nov. 3 for the AML Title game. The Red Raiders on the 1999 AML Title with a 21-14 win over Smethport. It marks the first time since the 1999 AML title game that either Curwensville or Coudersport isn't playing for the AML title. Those two teams hooked up for the last three AML titles with Coudersport winning the last two. It will also be the first time since 1988 that at least one of the "Big Three" AML teams of Curwensville, Coudersport and Smethport aren't in the title game. In 1988, Port Allegany beat Ridgway 19-14, and it is the first time ever that a team from the main Route 6 corridor of Smethport, Port Allegany and Coudersport isn't in the game.
