KANE – The top-seeded Kane Wolves bottled up the Curwensville Golden Tide and advanced to the District 9 Class A semifinals with a 32-0 win Friday night.

If the score sounds familiar, it matched Kane’s 32-0 win over Curwensville in Week 6.

The Wolves (11-0), ranked seventh in the state by the Pennsylvania Football News, limited Curwensville to 119 yards of offense. That set up the Wolves offense with a short field all night.

All four offensive scoring drives started inside the Tide 40-yard line.

Kane quarterback Zach Anderson completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards. He threw two scoring passes to Matt Mix and Dustin Moran, covering 4 and 14 yards respectively. Moran also scored on an 8-yard run, Mike Punk ran one in from seven yards out and John Bizzak returned an interception 60 yards to close the scoring in the fourth quarter.

That lands Kane in the next round against the winner of Saturday’s Port Allegany/Coudersport game Nov. 16 again at home in Kane.

Curwensville’s season ended at 4-6.

Kane’s first score came at the end of the first quarter. The Wolves started at the Tide 38 and needed five plays to set up Anderson’s 4-yard TD pass to Mix on third down.

The Wolves scored twice in the second quarter and led 20-0 by intermission. Punk scored his 7-yard TD run on a wide receiver sweep and Moran caught Anderson’s 14-yard TD pass with 40 seconds left in the half.

Curwensville finished the first half with one first down and 13 yards of offense.

Moran made it 26-0 in the third quarter on his 8-yard run with 1:30 remaining.

Curwensville’s four turnovers came in the second half. Bizzak returned one of Tide quarterback David Kalgren’s three interceptions 60 yards for a score with 9:16 left in the game.

The short fields for the Kane offense limited its numbers. The Wolves gained only 228 yards. Moran rushed for 47 yards on 13 carries. Mix caught six passes for 60 yards.
