MONITEAU 22, WESTERN BEAVER 14

INDUSTRY – Tyler Armagost threw for two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown as Moniteau struck a note for District 9 with a 22-14 win over the WPIAL’s Western Beaver, who entered the game ranked ninth in the state in Class A by the Pennsylvania Football News.

Armagost ran 13 times for 60 yards and was 6-for-12 passing for 75 yards and two touchdowns to help the Warriors (5-1) rally from an 8-0 halftime deficit to get the win.

“That was the best team we played this year,” Moniteau head coach Jeff Campbell said. “They were physical, and they had a very good defense. It was a good test for us.”  

Sophomore James Shope added 21 carries for 135 yards, and Josh Loos and Dakota Campbell each had receiving touchdowns for Moniteau.

“Mitch Czech had an interception and a real nice punt return as well,” Campbell said.

COUDERSPORT 40, SHEFFIELD 16

COUDERSPORT – Coudersport used a team-effort to get a 40-16 win over visiting Sheffield Friday night.

The Falcons (5-1 overall, 5-1 AML North) got touchdowns from five different players, and Cooper Bonczar kicked a pair of field goals (20 and 30 yards) helping Coudersport take a 34-0 lead at halftime and a 40-0 lead early in the third quarter.

Coudersport got its ground game ungrounded rushing for 303 yards and four touchdowns on 51 carries and needed to throw just four passes – completing all four. The Falcons entered the game 19th out of 26 teams in District 9 in rushing but first in passing.

Nick Reddick led Coudersport with 17 carries for 89 yards, while Dirk Cowburn had four totes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Gee added seven carries for 58 yards and a score, and Colton Corey had five for 41 and a touchdown. Dakota Dehn also scored a rushing TD.

Boomer Wetzel was 3-for-3 passing for 33 yards including a 12-yard scoring pass to Justen Kinder.

Sheffield (1-5, 1-5) stats are pending.

SMETHPORT 18, OTTO-ELDRED 12

SMETHPORT – Smethport broke a 14-game losing streak with an 18-12 win over visiting Otto-Eldred Friday night ruining Otto’s return to the field after last week’s forfeit loss to Cameron County.

Preston Birtcil led the Hubbers (1-5 overall, 1-5 AML North) played great on both sides of the football for Smethport. He had 13 tackles and two interceptions on defense and added 11 carries for 63 yards on offense while also catching two touchdown passes (35 and 8 yards) in the third quarter. He had two catches for 43 yards.

The game was tied at six at halftime thanks to a 28-yard scoring run by Smethport’s Bill Pruett and a

Bill Pruett (28-yard run). Who ran 14 times for 108 yards, scored for Smethport, and Todd Chaffee (5-yard run) got into the end zone for Otto-Eldred.

Smethport then scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to take an 18-6 lead.

Birtcil’s 35-yard scoring pass from Joel Kohler gave the Hubbers the lead for good, and then his eight yarder from Kohler gave Smethport some breathing room.

Otto-Eldred cut the lead to six late in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run by quarterback Travis Bair.

TYRONE 28, PUNXSUTAWNEY 7

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Shayne Tate ran for 277 yards and four touchdowns to lead Tyrone to a 28-7 win over Punxsutawney Friday night in Punxsutawney.

Tate scored on runs of 74, 96, 8 and 9 yards to help the Golden Eagles, ranked fourth in the state in Class AA by the PA Football News, stay unbeaten at 6-0.

Zach Smith scored Punxsutawney’s lone touchdown on an 8-yard run as the Chucks fell to 0-6 on the season. Smith was 10 of 13 passing for 109 yards and ran 13 times for 13 yards. Austin Furman had eight catches for 91 yards and also picked off a pass on defense.

KEYSTONE 26, CLARION-LIMESTONE 6

STRATTANVILLE – Dan Reed, Mike Switzer and Derek Swartfager helped Keystone break a 2-game losing streak with a 26-6 win at Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

Reed, the sophomore quarterback, was 11-for-20 passing for 202 yards and two touchdowns - he had one interception - , while Switzer caught four passes for 132 yards and two scores and Swartfager ran 12 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

The game was close at the half with Keystone holding a 6-0 lead at the break after the teams played a scoreless first quarter.

But the Panthers broke things open by scoring 20 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Dan Miller paced C-L (1-5, 1-3) going 20 of 42 passing for 279 yards and two interceptions. He scored the Lions lone touchdown on a 2-yard run. Andy Wilson had nine catches for 173 yards and two carries for four yards while also interception a pass on defense.

BROCKWAY 26, JOHNSONBURG 24

JOHNSONBURG – Visiting Brockway built a 26-12 halftime lead and then had to hold on for dear life to get a 26-24 win over Johnsonburg Friday night.

Dillon Park ran 15 times for 122 yards and one touchdown and caught a 51-yard touchdown pass for the Rovers (4-2 overall, 4-2 AML South).

Zane Zelehoski ran 27 times for a game-high 140 yards and two touchdowns while adding two catches for seven yards to pace Johnsonburg (1-5, 1-5), which missed on two 2-point conversions in the third quarter after Zelehoski touchdown runs.

Matt Pentz was 4-for-8 passing for 129 yards and two touchdowns for the Rovers. Armando Fortunato scored a rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown while running for three yards and catching two passes for 22.

Mike Myers, who added 18 carries for 102 yards, also scored for Johnsonburg as did Ren Yonker. Yonker caught four passes for 90 yards, as Zach Padasak was 10 of 16 passing for 128 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The teams combined to score 32 first-quarter points with Brockway holding a 20-12 lead after 12 minutes.

Johnsonburg, who lost by two points for the second straight week, outgained Brockway 379 to 300 including 251-181 on the ground. Brockway won despite turning the ball over three times – all on fumbles. The Rams had one turnover, an interception.

BRADFORD 35, BROOKVILLE 23

BROOKVILLE – Nick Johnson scored three touchdowns three different ways to lift unbeaten Bradford to a 35-23 win at Brookville Friday night in a win that clinched the final D9 League title for the Owls.

Johnson scored on a 32-yard run and an 81-yard kickoff return in the first half before adding an 84-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second half. It is the second straight week he has returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Due in part to the long returns, Brookville outgained Bradford 388 to 279 including 263 to 82 in the air, although the 82 passing yards was a marked improvement for an Owls team that entered the game having thrown just nine passes, four of which had been completed for 63 yards.

Bradford (5-0 overall, 3-0 D9 League) led 21-12 at halftime and 35-12 at the end of the third quarter. Brookville got two scores 18 seconds apart in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to make things a little bit interesting.

Johnson finished the night with 16 carries for 99 yards, while Dan McMurtrie added 10 for 58 and a touchdown. Matt Teribery caught a 21-yard scoring pass from Tyler Grandy to account for the other Bradford score.

Shane Heschke was 14 of 24 passing for 263 yards and three touchdowns to lead Brookville (3-3, 1-2). He threw a 39-yard scoring pass to Rocky Peace and touchdown tosses of 39 and 4 yards to Alex Kerr. The 39-yard scoring pass to Kerr came on the last play of the first half. Heschke added nine carries for a team-high 57 yards.

Joe Galbraith, District 9’s leading rusher entering the game, was limited to 16 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. He did have two catches for 48 yards. Peace had a team-high five grabs for 91 yards, while Kerr had four for 79.  

RIDGWAY 22, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 7

ST. MARYS – Ridgway used a strong defense and a solid offense to get a 22-7 win over Elk County Catholic in a key AML South game Friday night in St. Marys.

The Elkers (4-2 overall, 4-2 AML South) limited ECC (3-3, 3-3) to 122 yards of offense while shutting down last week’s D9Sports.com District 9 Player of the Week Kyle Garner. Garner was limited to 3 of 11 passing for 18 yards.

Elliott Pontious scored on runs of 13 and 24 yards while rushing 23 times for a game-high 99 yards to lead Ridgway, which didn’t put the game away until a touchdown by Pontious with 1:31 left.

Sam Skraba also caught a 26-yard scoring pass from Joe Renaud, and Alex Bradshaw hit a 22-yard field goal as time expired at the end of the first half.

Eric Mastrogiacomo got ECC’s lone scored on a 47-yard run in the first quarter. The senior ran nine times for 72 yards.

Jerico Weitzel added 11 carries for 76 yards for Ridgway.

CAMERON COUNTY 46, PORT ALLEGANY 0

EMPORIUM – Cameron Clingan and Abram Zoschg each scored twice, and Cameron County’s defense held Port Allegany to negative 13 yards of offense in a 46-0 whitewashing of the visiting Gators Friday night.

Clingan scored on a 50-yard run and on a 43-yard pass from Jordan Crane, while Zoschg had scoring runs of 6 and 85 yards.  Darrick Mason (14-yard run), Andy Lippert (2-yard run) and Andrew Kesterholt (26-yard run) also scored for Cameron County which racked up 435 yards including 347 on the ground.  

Clingan paced the Red Raider offense rushing eight times for 105 yards and caught one pass for 43 yards, while Crane was 5 of 13 for 88 yards passing, one TD and one INT while also running four times for 23 yards.

Cameron County moved to 6-0 with the win and is believed to have clinched a District 9 Class A playoff berth, while Port Allegany falls to 3-3 after a 3-0 start.

KANE 32, CURWENSVILLE 0

KANE – Dustin Moran scored three touchdowns to lead Kane to a 32-0 shutout win over Curwensville in AML South action Friday night.

Moran, who ran 16 times for a game-high 87 yards and caught three passes for 66 yards, scored on a pair of 4-yard runs and on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Zach Anderson who also hit John Bizzak with a 20-yard scoring toss. Mike Punk also returned a punt 50 yards for the Wolves (6-0 overall, 6-0 AML South), who are believed to have clinched a District 9 Class A playoff berth with the win.

Anderson was 9 of 17 passing for 146 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Kane, while Bizzak had two grabs for 34 yards.

David Kalgren was 9 of 21 passing for 91 yards and an interception for Curwensville (1-5, 1-5) while running seven times for 48 yards and interception a pass on defense.  

CLEARFIELD 21, CENTRAL MOUNTAIN 7

CLEARFIELD – Jarrin Campman ran for a touchdown and passed for a touchdown to lead Clearfield to a 21-7 win over Central Mountain in MAC Large Schools Division play Friday night in Clearfield.

Campman ran 23 times for 100 yards and was 6-for-10 passing for 84 yards, a touchdown and an interception.  His TD pass was a 10-yard toss to Drew Hipps, who had two catches for 51 yards, in the second quarter helping the Bisons (3-3 overall, 2-2 MAC Large Schools) lead 21-7 at halftime. Toby Young scored Clearfield’s first touchdown on a 13-yad run.

Matt Overdorff had a TD run for Central Mountain (2-4, 0-4), while Cody Dolan was 10 of 18 passing for 233 yards and an interception. Caleb Blazina caught four passes for 157 yards.
