BROCKWAY 41, SHEFFIELD 8

SHEFFIELD – Dillon Park ran for 134 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception for a touchdown to lead Brockway to a 41-8 win at Sheffield Saturday afternoon.

Park needed just nine carries to get his yardage and scored on a run of 41 yards and an interception return of 45 yards.

Matt Pentz added 109 yards passing while going 5-for-10 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. His first two passes – Brockway’s first two offensive plays of the game – went for touchdowns. He hit Ben Kuhar with a 32-yard scoring strike and Mark Shannon with a 21-yard scoring strike 16 seconds apart in the first quarter.

Camdon Makay – 9 carries, 50 yards – and Armando Fortunato – 3 carries, 19 yards, 2 catches, 26 yards – each added touchdown runs for the Rovers (5-2 overall, 5-2 AML South), who kept their hopes for the AML South title alive. Brockway can win the AML South by beating Kane Friday and Port Allegany and two weeks and having Coudersport beat Kane in two weeks.

Sheffield (1-6, 1-6 AML North) turned the ball over five times including three fumbles. The Wolverines touchdown came on a 4-yard pass from Craig Fitch to James Hahn. Jordan Copley had a huge came for Sheffield catching 11 passes for 142 yards.

KANE 59, OTTO-ELDRED 13

DUKE CENTER – Kane’s magic number is one for its first AML South title since 2002 after a 59-13 win at Otto-Eldred Friday night.

The Wolves (7-0 overall, 7-0 AML South) can clinch the AML South title and a berth in the AML Title game with wins over either Brockway (next week) or Coudersport (in two weeks) or a Brockway loss to Port Allegany in two weeks.

Dustin Moran, John Bizzak and Zach Anderson all played instrumental roles in the victory over Otto-Eldred (1-6, 1-6 AML North).

Moran ran 16 times for 153 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 35, 5 and 58 yards, while also catching two passes for 19 yards.

Bizzak had four catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns (45 yards, 3 yards) while also interceptions a pass on defense.

Anderson was 10-for-15 passing for 178 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also kicked a 27-yard field goal and was 8-for-8 on PATs.

Mike Punk added two touchdowns for the Wolves scoring on a 33-yard run and an 88-yard kickoff return, while Matt Mix scored on a 1-yard run while also picking off a pass on defense.

Otto-Eldred stats are pending.  

CAMERON COUNTY 37, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

EMPORIUM – Abram Zoschg and Cameron Clingan each scored twice  to lead unbeaten Cameron County to a 37-0 win over Elk County Catholic and inch the Red Raiders closer to their first AML divisional crown since 1999.

Zoschg, who finished the night with a team-high 83 yards rushing on seven carries, scored on a 64-yard run in the first quarter and a 4-yard run early in the second quarter to give the Red Raiders (7-0 overall, 7-0 AML North) a 12-0 lead.

Clingan then made it 18-0 at halftime when he caught a 9-yard scoring pass from Jordan Crane, who was 6-for-12 passing for 96 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Crane delivered his second scoring toss of the game in the third quarter on a 26-yard toss to Sean McManigle before Clingan, who ran 15 times for 64 yards while catching one pass for nine, scored on a 5-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Mike Baker’s 15-yard interception return for a touchdown finished off the scoring.

Cameron County outgained ECC (3-4, 3-4 AML South) 340 yards to 26 and held Eric Mastrogiacomo, who entered the game third in D9 in rushing (695 yards) to negative 10 yards on 17 carries. Kyle Gerber paced the Crusaders, who have lost two straight and four of five since a 2-0 start, with four carries for 22 yards.

Charlie Holjencin added two interceptions on defense for Cameron County, which picked off three Kyle Garner passes.

Cameron County can claim the AML North title, its first AML divisional title since winning the AML South in 1999, with one win in its final two games or a Coudersport loss. The Red Raiders are at Sheffield next Saturday before traveling to Johnsonburg Oct. 26.

CURWENSVILLE 28, SMETHPORT 8

SMETHPORT – Curwensville broke a scoreless halftime tie with 22 unanswered third-quarter points on its way to a 28-8 win at Smethport Friday night.

Ben McGary scored twice in the third quarter, and Curwensville scored three touchdowns in a span of 7:01 in the quarter to take control of the game.

David Kalgren got the Golden Tide (2-5 overall, 2-5 AML South), winners of two of their last three games, on the board with a 2-yard run before McGary scored on runs of five and two yards to make it 22-0.

Curwensville then made it 28-0 midway through the fourth quarter on a 14-yard Jed Greslick run before Smethport (1-6, 1-6 AML North) scored on a 75-yard Kyle Nobles run.

Turnovers were costly to Smethport with the Hubbers giving the ball away six times including four after halftime.

Greslick led Curwensville with 16 carries for 161 yards and the touchdown, while McGary had 12 totes for 57 yards and two scores. Kalgren was 5-for-9 passing for 48 yards and added 10 carries for 33 yards. Jesse Hoover had five catches for 48 yards. Sam Gardner had two interceptions on defense.

Thanks to the long touchdown run, Nobles paced Smethport with seven carries for 106 yards. Preston Birtcil added nine totes for 67 yards and had one catch for 18.

PORT ALLEGANY 16, RIDGWAY 7

RIDGWAY – Port Allegany got defensive in a 16-7 win at Ridgway Friday night.

The Gators (4-3 overall, 4-3 AML North) sacked Ridgway quarterbacks numerous times led by four from Josh Saltsman, who added a team-high 12 tackles. After Ridgway took a 7-0 lead on a 34-yard Nick Dickant to Elliott Pontious pass, Port Allegany didn’t allow the Elkers to see the end zone again. Ridgway managed a 117 yards on the night. 

Ridgway's defense was nearly as good allowing Port Allegany 178 yards, but the Gators scored on an 85-yard kickoff return by Levi Perry and a safety. Port also scored on a 20-yard Derick Morey touchdown run. 

Morey, who was moved from quarterback to tailback, ran 20 times for 94 yards and the score, while Nick Nichols chipped in with 15 carries for 89 yards. Morey and Ryan Bodamer each had interceptions for the Gators. 

Pontious ran 19 times for 43 yards and three catches for 40 yards to lead Ridgway, which played without Jerico Weitzel (shoulder injury). Dickant was 9-for-14 passing for 82 yards, a touchdown and tow interceptions.

ST. MARYS 31, PUNXSUTAWNEY 6

ST. MARYS – Todd Schatz scored three touchdowns and Jeremy Williams two to lead St. Marys to a 31-6 win over visiting Punxsutawney in D9 League action Friday night.

Schatz scored on runs of 37 and 74 yards and returned a a punt 60 yards for a score, while Williams returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown and also scored on a 25-yard run for St. Marys (5-2 overall, 3-1 D9 League) who secured second place outright in the D9 League for the first time since tying DuBois at the top of the league in 1986 (both teams were 3-1-1 in the league that season).  

Punxsutawney (0-7 overall, 0-3 D9 League) scored on a 24-yard Zach Smith to Bobby Wingert touchdown pass to take an early 6-0 lead.

Schatz ended the night with 144 yards rushing on nine carries, while Williams had 95 on eight totes. Brian Tamburlin chipped in with 10 carries for 73 yards, as St. Marys ran 35 times for 352 yards. 

Smith was 10-for-22 passing for 119 yards and the touchdown while throwing two interceptions. He also had 16 carries for 39 yards. Wingert had four catches for 48 yards and the score.  

COUDERSPORT 35, JOHNSONBURG 6

JOHNSONBURG – Boomer Wetzel threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns to lead Coudersport to a 35-6 win at Johnsonburg Friday night.

Wetzel was 11-for-17 passing – he also tossed an interception – throwing scoring passes to Brett Whitman (58 yards) and Derek Burdick (23 yards). Whitman had three catches for 74 yards and Burdick one for 23.

Coudersport ran for 188 yards, the second straight week they have been over 150 after failing to reach 100 total the three weeks prior to that. Dirk Cowburn paced the Falcons with nine carries for 74 yards, while Kyle Gee had just five carries for four yards but scored two touchdowns. Colton Corey added a touchdown run and had five totes for 42 yards while adding three catches for 35 yards. Corey added an interception on defense.

Johnsonburg's lone touchdowns came on a 3-yard Zach Padasak to Ren Yonker pass. But it was one of just two completions in 16 tries for Padasak who also threw an interception. Yonker had three carries for 29 yards and two catches for 24 while Mark Myers had 11 carries for 29 yards. 

SELINSGROVE 7, DUBOIS 0

SELINSGROVE – Selinsgrove freshman Seth Lauver scored on a 26-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and that was all the Seals needed to get a 7-0 win over visiting DuBois Friday night.

Selinsgrove outgained the Beavers (2-5) 372-78 and moved the ball into DuBois territory seven times on the night, but the Beaver defense was able to come up with key stops all night long to keep the game close.

DuBois had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter when Selinsgrove, facing a fourth down from the DuBois 40, snapped a punt over punter Tim Reed’s head. The ball rolled back to the Seals’ 30-yard line, but Reed was able to get to the ball and get a punt off that ended up rolling to DuBois 24 yard line averting potential disaster for Selinsgrove.   

Kyle Bish was 5-for-11 passing for 44 yards for DuBois, while Garrett Malmgren ran eight times for 13 yards and had two catches for 26 yards. Bish also had an interception on defense, one of three picks on the night for the Beavers.  

Lauver ran 11 times for 64 yards to lead Selinsgrove. 

REDBANK VALLEY 47, A-C VALLEY 12

NEW BETHLEHEM – Nash Rupp and Alex Bladel each scored two touchdowns and Jake Smith threw three touchdown passes to lead Redbank Valley to a 47-12 win over visiting A-C Valley in KSAC action Friday night.

The win clinches one of the two automatic District 9 Class A playoff berths awarded to the KSAC for Redbank Valley (6-1 overall, 4-1 KSAC).

Rupp caught scoring passes of 15 and five yards from Smith, while Bladel scored on runs of 15 and 21 yards and finished the night with 106 yards rushing on eight carries.

Smith also found Jerrett Magagnotti with a 45-yard scoring pass, and the senior was 9-for-14 passing for 147 yards. Magagnotti had two catches for 68 yards followed by Kasey Haines, who had two for 44.

Tony Bish added a 79-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Bulldogs, and Curtis Lee had a 12-yard scoring run.

A-C Valley (0-7, 0-5), which has lost a District 9-leading 20 straight games, got a 15-yard touchdown pass from Luke Walker to Michael Orrvick and a 3-yard scoring run from Walker, who was 8-for-21 passing for 96 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Mike Himes ran 11 times for 42 yards and had two catches for 25.

Redbank Valley hosts Moniteau Friday while A-C Valley is at Karns City.   

LAKEVIEW 33, UNION 7

STONEBORO – A.J. Etheriedge had a big game for Union with four catches for 139 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to help the visiting Golden Knights avoid a 33-7 loss to Lakeview.

Etheriedge caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Matt Gagliano (7-for-17, 153 yards), but Lakeview freshman Luca Reddick scored three touchdowns to lead the Sailors (4-3) to the victory. He scored on a pair of touchdown catches and a 17-yard interception return.  

Colby Davis chipped in with nine carries for 42 yards for Union (1-6), while Drew Logue had 13 tackles on defense.

Thomas Miller led all rushers with 175 yards rushing and a touchdown on 34 carries while also returning a punt 66 yards for a score.  

Union hosts Clarion-Limestone Friday.

BROOKVILLE 18, KEYSTONE 7

KNOX – Shane Heschke provided all the offense Brookville needed throwing for two touchdowns and running for a third to help the Raiders to an 18-7 win at Keystone Friday night.

Heschke, who was 9-for-18 for 156 yards, also threw two interceptions but he made up for it by hitting Alex Kerr for two touchdowns (17 and 34 yards). The senior also ran 10 times for 79 yards scoring on a 17-yard run.

Scott Lutz scored the lone Keystone touchdown recovering a fumble in the end zone.

Dan Reed led the Panthers (3-4) going 18-for-33 passing for 146 yards and two picks with Kyle Rhoads catching seven passes for 47 yards and Mike Switzer six for 49.

Rocky Peace had four catches for 63 yards for Brookville (4-3), while Kerr had two for 52 and also picked off a pass on defense. Joe Galbraith, District 9’s leading rusher, was held under 100 yards for the second straight game and for the fourth time this season. The senior gained 78 yards on 23 carries. Nearly 60 percent of Galbraith’s rushing yards this season (559 of 935) have come in just two games.

Brookville's defense held Keystone to negative 11 yards rushing while only sacking Reed once. The Raiders were hurt by turnovers losing three fumbles and having the two passes picked off.
