Zach Anderson had a big night for Kane in the Wolves win over Coudersport

BRADFORD 29, EAST ALLEGHENY 15

BRADFORD – Nick Johnson scored two touchdowns in the final 6:57 to lead Bradford to a come-from-behind 29-15 win over visiting East Allegheny Saturday afternoon.

The Owls (7-1), who clinched the top seed in the District 9 Class AAA playoffs with the win, trailed East Allegheny (6-3) 15-14 entering the fourth quarter.

But Johnson gave Bradford the lead for good on a 57-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion run with 6:57 left to play. The senior running back then put the game away with a 7-yard scoring run with 2:56 left.

Johnson had a monster day for Bradford running 17 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns (he also scored on an 87-yard run in the third quarter) while catching two passes for four yards. Dan McMurtrie (4 carries, 38 yards) added a touchdown run for the Owls, while Mike Pascarella had 13 carries for 56 yards.

Sophomore quarterback Kyle Yurkewicz, the third-string QB, ran Bradford’s complicated multifaceted rushing game nearly flawlessly and also completed the first two passes of his career going 2-for-5 for four yards.

Monte Ashby scored twice for East Allegheny, which is located east of Pittsburgh at the junction of Route 30 and Route 48. He reached the end zone on a 46-yard pass from Darrale Dunn and on a 72-yard run.

BRASHEAR 49, DUBOIS 13

PITTSBURGH – Undefeated Brashear avenged an upset loss at DuBois last year by whipping up on the Beavers 49-13 Saturday afternoon at Cupples Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Jermaine Robinson and Ed Tinker led the way for the Bulls (9-0). Robinson was 11-for-14 passing for 198 yards and four touchdowns with Tinker on the receiving end of four of the aerials for 108 yards and two scores. Bruce Patterson added 16 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns for Brashear.

Garrett Malmgren had a big day for DuBois (2-7) running the ball 17 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns scoring on runs of four and 83 yards.

KANE 39, COUDERSPORT 7

KANE – Kane took advantage of five straight second-half turnovers by Coudersport to score 32 unanswered second half points on its way to a 39-7 win over the Falcons.

The games was tied 7-7 at halftime, but thanks to the Coudersport miscues – four fumbles and one interception – Kane (9-0 overall, 9-0 AML South) scored 20 third-quarter points to take a commanding 27-7 lead at the end of the quarter.

Overall, Coudersport (7-2 AML North) turned the ball over eight times, including seven times in the second half.

Kane’s offense took advantage of the miscues rolling up 435 yards on the night including a big night from senior quarterback Zach Anderson. Anderson was 15-for-25 passing for 190 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed a 22-yard scoring pass to John Bizzak and an 11-yard scoring pass to Mike Punk, who scored three touchdowns on the night.

Dustin Moran added 12 carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns for Kane, while Punk had three carries for 33 yards and a score. 

Coudersport’s lone touchdown came on a 12-yard trick-play pass from Bret Whitman to Justen Kinder.

ST. MARYS 35, YOUNGSVILLE 0

ST. MARYS – Brian Tamburlin ran nine times for 118 yards and three touchdowns to lead St. Marys to a 35-0 win over visiting Youngsville in a non-conference game Friday night in St. Marys.

Tamburlin scored on first-half runs of one, two and 64 yards as the Dutch (6-3) built scored all 35 points in the first half.

Jeremy Williams added six carries for 87 yards including a 55-yard touchdown drive helping the Dutch out gain the Eagles (0-9) 428-84.

With the win, St. Marys still has a chance for a home playoff game in the District 9 Class AAA field. The Dutch must beat Elk County Catholic Friday and have Clearfield lose to Penns Valley. Otherwise, St. Marys will travel to Clearfield in the opening round of the D9 bracket. 

CURWENSVILLE 49, SHEFFIELD 27

CURWENSVILLE – Ben McGary and Jed Greslick combined to rush for 227 yards and three touchdowns as Curwensville kept its District 9 Class A playoff hopes alive with a 49-27 not-as-close as the score indicates win over visiting Sheffield Friday night.

The Golden Tide (4-5 overall, 4-5 AML South) got some good news from Ridgway Friday night as well thanks to Otto-Eldred’s 32-26 upset over the Elkers. That means Curwensville, winners of three in a row and four of five after an 0-4 start, can make the playoffs in a couple of different ways. The Tide will clinch a playoff spot if Clarion loses to Brookville next week or if Elk County Catholic loses to Smethport Saturday night and St. Marys next week.

Curwensville outgained Sheffield (1-8, 1-8 AML North) 367 yards to 202 with most of the Wolverines yardage coming in the fourth quarter. The Golden Tide led 49-7 going to the final frame before Sheffield put up 20 points in the quarter.

McGary led the Curwensville attack running 11 times for 143 yards and a touchdown, while Greslick added five carries for 84 yards and two scores. Jesse Hoover had four catches for 62 yards and a score, while David Kalgren was 7-for-10 passing for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Jordan Copley was 8-for-15 passing for 125 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Sheffield while also running for a score. Matt Bryant led the Wolverines ground game with 21 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown while also catching one pass for nine yards and a score. Copley also add one 9-yard catch for Sheffield.

BELLEFONTE 47, PUNXSUTAWNEY 27

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Greg Benscoter ran 17 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bellefonte to a 47-27 MAC win at Punxsutawney Friday night.

Bellefonte (6-3 overall, 4-2 MAC) led 47-7 at halftime.

Easton Weaver scored twice to lead Punxsutawney (0-9, 0-4). He had two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown and one carry for 64 yards and a score. Zach Smith was 5-for-14 passing for 62 yards and the touchdown and also ran for 27 yards, while Nick Wehrle had eight carries for 77 yards. Austin Furman added 11 totes for 48 yards and a touchdown, while senior offensive lineman Neil Weaver scored a rushing TD as well. 

Matt Fisher added three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Ryan Poorman was 5-for-10 passing for 157 yards and three touchdowns for Bellefonte.

CAMERON COUNTY 57, JOHNSONBURG 18

JOHNSONBURG – Cameron Clingan ran for 213 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries as Cameron County warmed up for the AML Title game with a 57-18 trouncing of homestanding Johnsonburg Friday night.

Clingan scored on runs of 74, 29 and 66 yards in the first half helping the Red Raiders (9-0 overall, 9-0 AML South) race out to a 50-0 halftime lead.

Jordan Crane (3-for-5, 52 yards passing; 5 carries, 26 yards) threw two touchdown passes in the first half and ran for a touchdown in the third quarter for Cameron County. He also intercepted three passes on defense.

Ren Yonker caught two second-half scoring tosses from Zach Padasak for Johnsonburg (1-8, 1-8 AML South). Yonker finished the night with seven catches for 82 yards and the two touchdowns while Padasak was 16-for-28 passing for 163 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Abram Zoschg added nine carries for 73 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 36 yards while interception a pass on defense for Cameron, which will go for its first AML Title since 1999 Friday at Kane.  

PORT ALLEGANY 25, BROCKWAY 15

BROCKWAY – Derick Morey and Nick Nichols combined to run for 304 yards and three touchdowns to lead Port Allegany to a 25-15 win at Brockway Friday night.

With the victory, the Gators (6-3 overall, 6-3 AML North) clinched the No. 5 seed in the upcoming District 9 Class A playoffs, while the loss ended Brockway’s hopes for a home playoff game in the Class AA postseason. The Rovers fell to 5-4 overall and 5-4 in the AML South.

Morey ran for a game-high 179 yards and two scores (16, 6 yards) on 23 carries, while Nichols had 14 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown (65 yards) and one catch for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Nichols’ 65-yard scoring run with 3:44 left in the game put the game away less than a minute after Brockway’s Ben Kuhar caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Matt Pentz that cut Port’s lead to 18-15.

Port Allegany led 12-8 at the half and upped the lead to 18-8 on a 6-yard Morey run early in the fourth quarter.

Kuhar had a tremendous night for Brockway with five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns, while Pentz was 10-for-18 passing for 160 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Camdon Makay had 21 carries for 93 yards for the Rovers as well.

KEYSTONE 42, A-C VALLEY 0

FOXBURG – For the first time in 10 years Keystone will be making back-to-back District 9 football playoff appearances after the Panthers secured the second automatic spot given to the KSAC with a 42-0 win at A-C Valley Friday night.

The victory improved Keystone to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the KSAC on the season. The Panthers gain the second KSAC spot over Clarion based on a head-to-head win over the Bobcats.

Derek Swartfager, who ran 14 times for 50 yards, scored three rushing touchdowns, and Kyle Rhoads hauled in two Ben Black passes for scores to help the Panthers roll to the win.

Keystone led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter but exploded for 28 points in the second stanza to put the game away.

Black and Dan Reed combined to go 10-for-18 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns with Black being 4-for-12 for 121 and two scores and Reed 4-for-6 for 111 and one touchdown. Rhoades had three grabs for 93 yards and two touchdowns, while Mike Switzer had three for 73 and a score. Reed added an interception on defense for Keystone, while Rhoads had seven tackles.

A-C Valley stats are pending.  The Falcons finish the year 0-9 overall, 0-7 in the KSAC and have lost 22 straight games.

REDBANK VALLEY 56, CLARION-LIMESTONE 13

STRATTANVILLE – Redbank Valley scored 35 first-quarter points on its way to a 56-13 win at Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

Nash Rupp scored three touchdowns for the Bulldogs (8-1 overall, 6-1 KSAC) including a 93-yard kickoff return to open the game. It was one of two special teams’ touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who also got a 69-yard punt return for a score from Kasey Haines.

Jake Smith, meanwhile, was 8-for-12 passing for 99 yards and four touchdowns with Jerrett Magagnotti catching three passes for 48 yards and a score.  

Dan Miller threw scoring passes to Harry Cooper and Jace Rhoads for C-L (2-7, 2-5), which also got 15 tackles on defense from Cam Shirmer. He finished the night 4-for-14 passing for 98 yards and two touchdowns. 

KARNS CITY 57, UNION 0

RIMERSBURG – Karns City made sure it won’t have to share the KSAC title with anyone thumping homestanding Union 57-0 Friday night.

Anthony Stimac threw four touchdown passes to lead the unbeaten Gremlins (9-0 overall, 7-0 KSAC).

Twice Stimac, who finished the game 6-for-8 passing for 127 yards, hit Cameron Turner (2 catches, 56 yards) and Cody Williams (2 catches, 25 yards) for touchdown passes. He also ran the ball four times for 41 yards.

One of the highlights of the game was a 47-yard Matt McConnell field goal in the fourth quarter.

Union (1-8 overall, 1-6 KSAC) mustered just 15 yards of offense on the night.
