ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 32, RIDGWAY 7

ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic kept its hopes of a tie for the AML-South title alive with a 32-7 win over visiting Ridgway Saturday night at St. Marys’ Dutch Country Stadium.

While the Crusaders (6-2 overall, 6-2 AML-South) can end up in a three-way tie for the AML-South crown if they beat Johnsonburg next week and Kane topples Curwensville, ECC won’t play in the AML Title game. Curwensville would win the tiebreaker in a three-way tie, and if the Golden Tide beat Kane they would win the AML-South title outright.

Tom Marconi led ECC with 25 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown, while Joe Jacob, who came into the game with one touchdown pass on the season, threw two scoring passes in the second half. Jacob finished 3 of 7 passing for 81 yards. Matt Bauer, who had two catches for 62 yards, had one of the touchdown grabs.

Joe Renaud paced Ridgway going 6 of 12 passing for 100 yards including an 8-yard scoring pass to Sam Skraba, who caught four passes for 48 yards.

ECC led 6-0 at halftime before exploding for 26 second-half points.

COUDERSPORT 17, PORT ALLEGANY 3

PORT ALLEGANY – Visiting Coudersport overcame a 3-0 halftime deficit to knock off Port Allegany 17-3 Saturday afternoon.

Port took the 3-0 lead on a 33-yard Seth Lowery field goal in the second quarter, but Coudersport got a 7-3 lead at the end of three quarters thanks to a 28-yard touchdown pass from Eric Babcock to Zach Buckler.

Cooper Bonczar’s 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter made it a 7-point game, and then Tim Thomas sealed the victory with a 59-yard scoring run.

Thomas led Coudy (6-2 overall, 6-2 AML-North) with 21 carries for 138 yards and the score while also catching one pass for 14 yards. Babcock was 6 of 18 passing for 81 yards, the touchdown and an interception. Brett Whitman caught four passes for 40 yards.

Coudersport’s defense limited Port Allegany (2-6 overall, 2-6 AML-North) to 77 total yards of offense. Buckler led the defense with 12 tackles.

Despite the loss, Port Allegany still has a shot at the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Gators need to beat Otto-Eldred next week while Keystone losses its final two games to Punxsutawney and Brockway while also probably needing Ridgway to lose to Brockway next week.

CAMERON COUNTY 47, SHEFFIELD 22

SHEFFIELD – Unbeaten Cameron County scored 41 first-quarter points on its way to 47-22 win over winless Sheffield Saturday afternoon in Sheffield.

The Red Raiders scored the 41 points in an amazing 9:15, an average of 4.4 points per minute. Six different Cameron players found the scoreboard during that spurt, and seven different Red Raiders scored on the day,

Cameron County (8-0 overall, 8-0 AML-North) put up 47 points despite getting just 139 yards of total offense. Four Sheffield fumbles set the Red Raiders up in great field position for short drives.

Jason Blose led the way going 2 of 3 passing for 24 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Randy Schatz added five carries for 61 yards and a score for the Red Raiders.

Sheffield, which scored 14 of its points in the final 8:17 got a 9-yard touchdown run from Craig Fitch, a 46-yard Fitch to Tim Fry scoring pass and a 4-yard Jesse Parsons touchdown run. Fitch was 9 of 19 for 97 yards with Fry catching six of those passes for 70 yards. Fitch also ran for 33 yards, while Parsons had 175 yards rushing on 16 carries.

SMETHPORT 40, OTTO-ELDRED 20

DUKE CENTER – Behind four touchdown runs by Jared Hughes, visiting Smethport kept its faint District 9 Class A playoff hopes alive with a 40-20 win over Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Hughes, who had at least 85 yards rushing (an exact total wasn’t provided) got help from Preston Birtcil, who scored two touchdowns for the Hubbers (2-5 overall, 2-5 AML-North).

Shawn Barnish threw a pair of touchdown passes to Matt Buck while also running for a score. He was 10 of 22 passing for 111 yards. Drew Coscia added 81 yards rushing for the Terrors (1-6, 1-6).

Smethport can still qualify for the postseason if it wins its remaining game, Keystone drops its final two and Ridgway and Port Allegany each lose next week.

NORTH EAST 14, BRADFORD 0

BRADFORD – Curtis Bailey went 11 of 17 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead North East to a 14-0 win at Bradford Friday night.

Jeff Camiewski added 28 carries for 116 yards and two catches for 36 yards and a touchdown for the Grapepickers (7-1).

The loss coupled with St. Marys’ win over Philipsburg-Osceola puts Bradford’s District 9 Class AAA playoff hopes in jeopardy. The Owls (5-3) aren’t out of the picture yet, but now they need some help from either Central-Martinsburg or Clearfield, St. Marys’ last two opponents, plus at minimum one win to make it into the two-team District 9 field.

Bradford’s offense failed to register a point for the second consecutive week marking the first time since 1996 that the Owls have been shut out twice in the same season.

CLARION 46, CLARION-LIMESTONE 6

STRATTANVILLE – Clarion scored three times in the first 1:59 of the second quarter to break open a 13-0 lead on its way to a 46-6 win at Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

It is Clarion’s fifth straight win over C-L, the Bobcats longest streak against their cross-town rival since winning 10 straight from 1978 to 1987. The victory clinched a District 9 Class A playoff berth for the Bobcats (5-3 overall, 5-3 KSAC).

Clarion got two touchdown runs from Jon Kemmer and scoring passes from two running backs – Bubba Rue and Kevin Grejda – in the win.

Kemmer led the way rushing 10 times for 92 yards, as Clarion outgained C-L 363 yards to 60. Joel Matticks added 73 yards rushing including a 67-yard touchdown run for the Bobcats, while Jarrod Carpin had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Dan Miller was 5 of 20 passing for 62 yards with one touchdown and one interception to lead C-L (1-7, 1-7). He hit Zac Kemmer with a 26-yard scoring pass with 6:20 left in the game for C-L’s lone score.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 33, UNION 14

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney won for the third time in four tries with a 33-14 victory over visiting Union Friday night.

Logan Weaver had 142 yards of total offense and two touchdowns while also throwing a touchdown pass to lead Punxsutawney (3-5 overall, 3-4 KSAC). He threw for 89 yards on 7 of 11 passing while rushing for 53 yards and a score on nine carries.

Brennan Niver (71 yards rushing, 1 TD), Easton Weaver (5 catches, 68 yards, 1 TD; 8 tackles, 1 interception), Ryan Ellenberger (80 yards rushing, 1 TD; 10 tackles, 1 interception, 1 fumble recoveries) and Zach Dickey (2 interceptions) also had nice games for the Chucks, who had over 200 yards rushing on the night while forcing five turnovers including four interceptions.

Trent Switzer recovered a fumble for a touchdown, and Matt Gagliano had 5-yard scoring run for Union (1-7, 1-7).

PERRY 27, DUBOIS 21, OT

DuBOIS — Aaron Patterson’s 4-yard run in overtime lifted visiting Perry to a 27-21 win over DuBois Friday night.

Garrett Malmgren’s 10-yard pass from Kyle Bish with the following point-after kick by Bish tied the game at 21-21 with 1:08 left in regulation, capping the Beavers’ rally from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit.

Perry (8-1) got two touchdown passes from quarterback Greg McGee in the first quarter. After DuBois (5-3) tied it with two straight touchdown runs from Kyle Bish and Garrett Malmgren, Aaron Patterson gave Perry a 21-14 lead on Aaron Patterson’s 5-yard run at the end of the third quarter.

Malmgren led the Beavers with 122 yards rushing on only 13 carries. McGhee completed 11 of 17 passes for 146 yards for Perry.

KANE 41, BROCKWAY 15

KANE — Kenny Kane threw five touchdown passes and Ross Nicholson rushed for 172 yards and helped lead a Kane offense that piled up 454 yards against Brockway in a 41-15 rout of visiting Brockway Friday night.

The Wolves (6-2) went a long way to clinching the third seed for the Class AA playoffs, but still could drop to the fourth and final spot if they lose to Curwensville next week and Brookville closes the season with wins over Clarion and Punxsutawney.

Kane led 28-0 at halftime, getting a 2-yard TD run from Nicholson and three TD passes from Kane covering 69 yards to Arie Paup, 27 yards to Bert Leonard and 15 yards to Andrew Olson.

Kane threw two more TD passes in the second half to Paup for six yards and Shane Todd for 22 yards.

Brockway (3-5) got touchdowns from Zach Fremer on a 3-yard run and a 4-yard TD pass from backup quarterback Seth Galluzzi to Jake Shaffer.

Rovers starting quarterback Derek Buganza completed 14 of 26 passes for 163 yards.

Brockway could still make the playoffs with a win over Ridgway in its final conference game this week, but would need Brookville to lose both of their remaining games to Clarion and Punxsutawney.

CLEARFIELD 49, CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 21

HYDE — Despite trailing 14-0 in the first quarter, the Clearfield Bisons still managed to steamroll visiting and undefeated Central-Martinsburg in a Mountain Athletic Conference-Nittany Division showdown of conference unbeatens.

The Bisons (7-1 overall, 7-0 MAC) scored seven unanswered touchdowns compliments of the 1-2 tandem of running back Isiah Morgan and quarterback Jarrin Campman.

Morgan turned in his second 300-yard rushing game of the season, running for 312 yards on 32 carries with five touchdown runs of 4, 4, 56, 6 and 20 yards. Campman rushed for 105 yards on 15 carries and scored on runs of 10 and 8 yards.

Overall, the Bisons rushed for 455 yards. Campman completed just 1 of 6 passes for 16 yards and was intercepted twice.

Central got 94 yards rushing from Lucas Runk. The Scarlet Dragons fell to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the MAC.

CURWENSVILLE 42, JOHNSONBURG 21

JOHNSONBURG — The Curwensville Golden Tide racked up 524 yards of offense and set up their showdown with Kane for the Allegheny Mountain League South Division title with a 42-21 win at Johnsonburg Friday night.

The Golden Tide (7-1) would win the title with a win at Kane next Friday, but a loss could put them into a three-way tie with Kane and Elk County Catholic if the Crusaders finish with wins over Ridgway and Johnsonburg next week.

Against the Rams (5-3), the Tide pulled away with a 22-point fourth quarter. Jed Greslick provided all three of the touchdowns on runs of 25, 4 and 57 yards. Greslick also ran for a 12-yard TD in the third quarter and finished with 136 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Johnsonburg jumped out to a 13-0 lead on two 2-yard runs by Mark Myers, but Curwensville tied the game before intermission on a 1-yard run by quarterback David Kalgren and Kalgren’s 61-yard TD pass to Jesse Hoover, who caught five balls for 161 yards, making up the majority of Kalgren’s 286 yards passing.

The Rams scored their final touchdown on Zane Zelehoski’s 28-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Rams also piled up big yardage, 386, led by Zelehoski’s 148 yards rushing on 20 carries. Quarterback Ren Yonker gained 105 yards on 13 attempts.

After starting the year 5-0, the Rams have dropped three straight games to AML-South opponents.

ST. MARYS 42, PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 13

ST. MARYS — Shane Krise ran for four touchdowns and James Swanson returned an interception 92 yards as St. Marys routed visiting Philipsburg-Osceola, 42-13, Friday night.

The Flying Dutchmen (6-2 overall, 7-1 MAC-Nittany) jumped out to a 30-0 lead by halftime as Krise scored on TD runs of 57, 16 and 7 yards in the first half. He added a 5-yard TD run in the fourth quarter and finished with 87 yards on 12 carries.

St. Marys picked off three P-O passes, led by Swanson’s fourth-quarter pickoff and return. Kyle Bennett and Brian Samick also intercepted passes.
