BROOKVILLE — Plenty of big plays lit up the scoreboard as the Brookville Raiders outgunned the Union Golden Knights, 54-34, in their season-opening Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference matchup Friday night.
The Raiders scored on their first five possessions and three of their first four possessions of the second half as they outgained the Knights, 426-365. Five different Raiders found the end zone, led by Jared Heschke’s three TD grabs of 21, 78 and 58 yards. He finished with four catches for 168 yards.
Ethan Harmon scored twice on runs of 26 and 60 yards, finishing with 107 yards on only seven carries.
Brookville head coach Chris Dworek debuted his quarterback platoon of junior Garrett Weaver and sophomore Tyler Dombrowski and each threw two TD passes. Weaver connected on 3 of 7 passes for 99 yards and scored on a 12-yard run. Both of his scoring tosses went to Heschke for 21 and 58 yards.
Dombrowski completed all three of his passes for 111 yards, his scoring throws going 78 yards to Heschke and 22 yards to tight end Taylor Heinrich.
Union got a nice performance from senior running back Zach Traister, who rushed for 169 yards on 19 carries, scoring on a 67-yard run in the first half. Traister also registered two sacks on defense.
Junior quarterback Trent Corle completed 6 of 19 passes for 185 yards and threw three TD passes for Ron Cary, Brody Pollock and Taylor Smith covering 69, 15 and 45 yards. He was also intercepted twice.
