SHEFFIELD – Drew Coscia’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Justin Bird in the third overtime lifted Otto-Eldred to a 35-29 win over Sheffield Saturday afternoon in Sheffield.

The game ties for the longest in District 9 history with three other contests. Last year, Redbank Valley beat Clarion 28-21 in triple overtime, in 1995, DuBois topped Hollidaysburg 16-10 in three overtimes and in 1995, Moniteau beat Karns City 33-26. Overtime in the regular season began in 1995.

Otto-Eldred trailed 21-6 going to the fourth quarter but tied the game when Noah Colbert hit Bird with an 11-yard touchdown pass with just 14 seconds to play and Jake Knapp kicked the extra point. Colbert’s 1-yard touchdown run with 8:37 left had closed the gap to seven.

Then in the first overtime, the Terrors went ahead 29-21 on a 9-yard scoring pass from Colbert to Cody Hauber and a 2-point conversion run by Coscia. But Sheffield tied the game on a 3-yard Jimmy Hahn run and Hahn’s 2-point conversion run.

Neither team scored in the second overtime, before Otto got the ball first in the third extra frame and scored when running back Coscia connected with Bird. The Terrors defense then stopped Sheffield to secure the win.

The game was tied at six at halftime, as Sheffield scored on a 30-yard pass from Craig Fitch to Jasper Rentas and Colbert connected with Hauber with a 38-yard scoring pass for Otto-Eldred.

Sheffield then took the lead with two third-quarter touchdowns. First Khalil Slaughter scored on a 13-yard run and Hahn tossed a 2-point conversion pass to Nick Bonavita. Then, Fitch hooked up with Hahn on an 80-yard scoring pass.

Colbert finished 9 of 18 passing for 122 yards and three touchdowns while also running for four yards and a score for Otto-Eldred. Coscia ran 25 times for 124 yards and was 1-for-1 passing for three yards and the touchdown. Bird had seven grabs for 77 yards and the two scores with Hauber catching two passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Fitch was 5 of 14 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns for Sheffield with Hahn catching three balls for 113 yards and a touchdown and running for 82 yards and a score.
