BROOKVILLE – Moniteau has a pretty good mudder in senior running back James Shope. His teammates in the muddy trenches certainly made it possible.

The Warriors (4-3) pushed around the Raiders on a wet and muddy field and notched an important 30-12 win in the chase for a District 9 Class AA playoff spot.

Head coach Jeff Campbell certainly didn’t look like a 3-3 team coming into the game. The Warriors looked more like the squad that hammered the Raiders twice a year ago, 42-7 and 55-7.

Bottom line is we came in with a game plan and wanted to jump on them early because the field goes away in the second half,” Campbell said. “We wanted to get some points on the board and play solid defensively and play a little safer (offensively).”

That’s exactly what happened as the Warriors scored on four of their first six possessions — the other two drives ended at the Raiders’ 20 and 30 — and led 30-0 midway through the third quarter.

Shope scored Moniteau’s first three touchdowns on runs of 1, 17 and 29 yards. He wound up with 193 yards on 33 carries, 20 of them coming in the first half, and upped his season yardage total to 924.

Against the Raiders in four career games, Shope has now rushed for 579 yards and scored 10 touchdowns.

“He’s starting to hit his stride again right toward the end of the season when we need him,” Campbell said.

Kyle Armagost’s 11-yard TD run with 7:24 left in the third quarter put the Warriors up 30-0 and closed their scoring for the game.

The Raiders (3-4) scored both of their touchdowns in the fourth quarter on Garrett Weaver’s 20-yard TD pass to Jared Heschke on a flea-flicker play. Ethan Harmon scored on the Raiders’ first play of their next possession on an 80-yard run. He finished with 100 yards on 10 carries.
