By Andy Close EMPORIUM – Andy Lippert rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns to help Cameron County overcome a sluggish first half and record its ninth win of the season, 27-6 over visiting Smethport on Friday. “We tried to tell the kids all week long that you
can’t look ahead and to concentrate on this week,” said Lippert went to work on the Red Raiders opening drive of the second half, breaking off a 30-yard run that set-up his 1-yard score early in the third to make it 13-0. “Andy is a spark,” Fragale said. “He has a second gear. He is a finesse runner, but he can also be a power runner and run guys over like he did tonight.” The Red Raider defense set-up a short field on the ensuing possession, as they recovered a Smethport fumble at the Hubber 26-yard line. Jason Blose, who missed last week’s win over “I thought in the first quarter he was a little rusty,” said Fragale of Blose. “Once he got into the flow of the game he got back to being Jason. It’s good to have him back at full strength.” Cameron County once again found themselves with a short field to work with early in the fourth quarter after the teams traded possessions. Starting from the Smethport 49, Blose again hooked up with a wide open Summers who took the ball down to the Hubber 12-yard line. The junior quarterback used his legs on the next play, as he raced around the left end and dove for the pylon to make it 27-0. Smethport (1-8, 1-8) added a late touchdown on a Jarod Hughes 1-yard run that made it 27-6. The Red Raiders were unable to open the game up in the first half due to some sloppy play by the offense, including a fumble by Blose on their opening possession. Hunter Bardo appeared to score on 44-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but the play was called back because of a holding penalty and the Red Raiders would end up punting. Lippert was finally able to break through late in the first half, as he capped an 11-play, 76-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run with just under a minute remaining in the first half. Blose finished the game 3 of 6 passing for 59 yards while also rushing for 43 yards on eight carries. Next up for Cameron County will be a trip to the AML Championship game where they will meet AML South Champion Curwensville, who clinched their spot with a 15-0 win against Kane, at Curwensville. The game will be a rematch from Week 4, a game that the Red Raiders won in dramatic fashion, 19-18 in overtime. Cameron
