CURWENSVILLE - The Curwensville Golden Tide are your 2009 Allegheny Mountain League Champions with a hard fought 6-0 victory over Cameron County Friday night at Riverside Stadium in Curwensville.

Jed Greslick's 12 yard touchdown reception from Sam Gardner on the last play of the first half was the only score.  The play was set up by a personal foul penalty on the Red Raiders with no time remaining in the half.

"I am not going to take away anything from Curwensville. They placed tough enough to win,"  Cameron County coach John Fragale said.

Curwensville got the ball with 3:32 remaining in the first half on their own 15 yard line.  After six consective running plays, the Golden Tide were facing a third and three from their own 41 yard line.  Quarterback Sam Gardner found Greslick down the middle of the field on a 34 yard pass reception.  Cameron County was flagged for a horse collar tackle which gave Curwensville an additional 15 yards placing the ball at the 12 yard line with no time remaining on the clock.  Then Garner found Greslick in the endzone for the score. The extra point was no good and Curwensville had a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Cameron County had a chance to score on its first possession of the second half as they moved the ball 55 yards down the field to the Curwensville 19 yard line.  After a botch snap which lost 21 yards, the Red Raiders were facing a third down and 34 from their own 40 yard line.  Quaterback Jason Blose completed a pass to the four yard line but the play was called back for an illegal player downfield on the Red Raiders.  Cameron County would punt the ball two plays later.

"We didnt make the plays we should have.  We had a touchdown dropped in the endzone and their defense bothered us up," Fragale said.

The Red Raiders had one more opportunity in the second half to get some points on the board as a punt return by Andy Lippert returned a punt to the Golden Tide 12 yard line.  After a two yard lose by Lippert and two incomplete passes, Blose was sacked for a 14 yard loss on fourth down and the Red Raiders would not able to threaten again.

With the victory, Curwensville claimed the top spot in the upcoming Class A district playoffs and will probably face Redbank Valley either next Friday or Saturday in Curwensville.  Cameron County will face Port Allegheny next weekend in Emporium in the first round of the district playoffs.

Curwensville head coach Andy Evenko commented on his teams performance after the win.  "What can you say about our defense. We got ourselves in some bad situations tonight and those guys just spepped up and played fantastic defense down at the goal line. It was a big win for us, our school, and the community.  It sets us up in a nice situation."

Leading the way for Curwensville was Jed Greslick who had 135 all purpose yards.  He ran for 85 yards on 28 carries and caught three passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.  Sam Gardner chipped in with 48 yards 12 carries.

Cameron County was led by Andy Lippert who rushed for 20 yards on 13 carries.

NOTES - This is Curwensville's first AML title since 2004 when they defeated Coudersport 26-14 and their third overall title.  They won it in 2000 and 2004.
