BRADFORD 52, OLEAN (NY) 21

OLEAN, NY – Pat Pascarella scored four touchdowns, including a 90-yard kickoff return for a score, blocked a punt and rushed for 108 yards to lead Bradford to a 52-21 win at Olean (NY) in the nation’s longest running high-school football rivalry Saturday night.

Bradford (2-0), which has won four straight over the Huskies (0-2) now leads the all-time series 63-42-7.

Quarterback Cody Coats (5 of 7, 93 yards, 1 TD) and kicker Cody Nuzzo (7 of 7 PAT’s; 35-yard field goal, 5 touchbacks) also played key roles in the win for Bradford.    

PORT ALLEGANY 41, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 20

ST. MARYS – Seth Lowery ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns to lead visiting Port Allegany to a 41-20 win over Elk County Catholic Saturday night at Dutch Country Stadium in St. Marys.

Lowery scored on runs of 6, 2 and 59 yards, and the Gators (1-1 overall, 1-1 AML North) broke open a 7-point halftime lead (21-14) by scoring 14 unanswered third-quarter points.

Ryan Bodamer also had a monster game for Port Allegany racking up 15 tackles on defense and running for 33 yards and a touchdown on eight carries on offense. He also had a catch for four yards.

Meanwhile, Matt Bodamer added a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown and threw and 18-yard touchdown pass to Lucas Kline while going 3 of 4 passing for 52 yards. Kline had two catches for 48 yards and the score and also added a sack on defense.

Ricky Pearsall led ECC (0-2, 0-2 AML South) with 21 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown. Rob Wortman also returned an interception for a score for the Crusaders, while Joe Jacob threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to David Bojalad.   

DUBOIS 25, PUNXSUTAWNEY 6

DUBOIS – DuBois raced out to an 18-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on its way to a 25-8 win over visiting Punxsutawney in non-league action Friday night in DuBois.

Cam Kelly scored two first-quarter touchdowns for the Beavers (2-0) finding the end zone on a 27-yard run and a 54-yard pass from Josh Means, who threw two first-quarter scoring passes and three in the first half helping the Beavers to a 25-0 halftime lead.

Means, who was 9 of 12 passing for 146 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 47 yards on seven carries, also hit Shawn Newpher on a 12-yard scoring pass in the opening 12 minutes and then found Jon Sunealitis with a 10-yard scoring pass in the second quarter.

Kelly has 121 yards for DuBois including 47 on the ground on 11 carries and 74 yards receiving on three catches.

Nick Wehrle, who scored Punxsutawney’s lone touchdown on a 15-yard run, ran 12 times for 61 yards, while Logan Weaver was 7 of 23 passing for 101 yards. Braedon Pennington had four catches for 66 yards for the Chucks (0-2).

BROCKWAY 42, COUDERSPORT 14

COUDERSPORT – Derek Buganza threw for 276 yards and five touchdowns, including four second-quarter scoring tosses, to lead Brockway to a 42-14 win at Coudersport Friday night.

Buganza, who was 16 of 21 passing with an interception while adding 17 yards rushing on three carries, threw two touchdown passes to Jake Shaffer (2 catches, 81 yards) and one each to Mike Vervoort (6 catches, 90 yards), Chris Marshall and Zack Freemer (2 catches, 46 yards) while helping the Rovers (2-0 overall, 2-0 AML South) take a 28-0 halftime lead and 35-6 lead at the end of three quarters. Coudersport’s only score in the first three quarters came on a 28-yard interception return of a Buganza pass by Mitch Freeman.

Brockway outgained Coudersport 427-161 including 297-28 in the air.

Coudersport (1-1, 1-1 AML-North), which hurt itself with eight fumbles including four lost fumbles, was led by Tim McCusker’s 59 yards rushing on 10 carries including a touchdown.

Ryan Terwilliger led Brockway on the ground with 15 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for 49 yards.  

It marked only the fifth meeting, and fourth scheduled meeting, between the teams since Brockway entered the AML in 1999. The Rovers are now 4-1 in those games with Coudy’s lone win coming last season.

The victory is also Brockway’s fourth in a row and fifth in six tries dating back to last season.  

CAMERON COUNTY 36, RIDGWAY 0

EMPORIUM – Andy Lippert and Tanner Johnson each scored two rushing touchdowns to lead Cameron County to its 24th regular season win in its last 27 games with a 36-0 shutout of visiting Ridgway Friday night.

Lippert, who ran 10 times for 117 yards, scored both of his touchdowns in the first quarter, while Johnson, who ran five times for 44 yards, had a touchdown in each of the first two quarters helping Cameron County score all 36 of its points in the first half.

Jason Blose also threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Grimm (2 catches, 39 yards) and went 3 of 6 passing for 48 yards. Johnson chipped in one catch for nine yards.

Cameron County (2-0 overall, 2-0 AML North) outgained Ridgway (0-2, 0-2 AML South) 304-53.

CURWENSVILLE 35, OTTO-ELDRED 14

DUKE CENTER – Jed Greslick ran for 170 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries to lead visiting Curwensville to a 35-14 win over Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Greslick’s second and third touchdowns came in a pivotal third quarter that saw the Golden Tide (2-0 overall, 2-0 AML South) score 20 unanswered points to turn an 8-7 halftime lead into a 28-7 advantage going to the fourth quarter.

Otto-Eldred (0-2, 0-2 AML North), who led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, got a pair of long touchdown passes from Noah Colbert. Colbert, who went 5 of 9 passing for 139 yards while throwing an interception, hit Justin Bird with a 61-yard scoring pass two minutes into the game and then connected with Drew Coscia on a 61-yard scoring toss for the game’s final touchdown.  

Curwensville outgained Otto 414-125 including 345-negative 28 on the ground.

Sophomore Alex Holland added 12 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Tide, while Bird had four catches for 91 yards and the score for the Terrors.  

MONITEAU 44, CLARION-LIMESTONE 28

WEST SUNBURY – Moniteau rebounded from its opening-week loss to Clarion by scoring 37 first-half points on its way to a 44-28 win over visiting Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

The game was tied at 14 early in the second quarter, but Moniteau (1-1 overall, 1-1 KSAC) scored 23 straight points to take a 37-14 lead before C-L (0-2, 0-2) got a touchdown pass from Dan Miller to Jace Rhoads on the last play of the half to close the gap to 37-20 at halftime.

James Shope was the workhorse for Moniteau rushing for 162 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries, while sophomore quarterback Kyle Armagost added 104 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16 carries while going 3 of 11 passing for 31 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Shope added a fumble recovery on defense.

C-L had to rely on Miller’s arm to move the ball, as the Lions rushed for just 15 yards on 22 carries. And Miller had an up-and-down game throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Rhoads, but he also threw and interception and completed just 11 of 33 passes.

Zach Kemmer caught three passes for 102 yards and a score for C-L while also returning the opening kickoff of the game 88 yards for a touchdown and intercepting two passes. Rhoads added four grabs for 78 yards and a touchdown.

CLEARFIELD 35, PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 19

CLEARFIELD – Curtis Frye and Trey Campman each had monster games to help Clearfield to a 35-19 win over visiting Philipsburg-Osceola Friday night.

Frye, the sophomore quarterback, was 15 of 26 passing for 295 yards and two touchdowns while also running seven times for 19 yards and a score. Campman, the senior wide out, caught eight of those passes for 198 yards including a 93-yard touchdown in the third quarter while also returning an interception 16 yards for a score.

Derek Danver added four catches for 78 yards including a 62-yard touchdown catch for the Bisons, and Derek Morgan ran nine times for 35 yards and a touchdown, caught three passes for 29 yards and also intercepted a pass on defense.

Clearfield (1-1 overall, 1-0 MAC-Nittany), meanwhile, forced five Philipsburg-Osceola (1-1, 1-1) turnovers including two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

KARNS CITY 39, UNION 2

RIMERSBURG – Dylan Hipple threw for three touchdowns, including two to Brandon Collier, and Aaron Markle scored twice on the ground to lead Karns City to a 39-2 win at Union Friday night.

Hipple completed 7 of 12 passes for 187 yards while also rushing five times for 19 yards. Both of Collier’s catches went for touchdowns, and he gained 64 yards on them, while Markle ran 12 times for 56 yards and caught two passes for 46 yards.

Zach Traister led Union (1-1 overall, 1-1 KSAC) with 10 carries for 50 yards.

Karns City (2-0, 2-0) won despite fumbling the ball six times – the Gremlins lost one of them – and committing 12 penalties for 95 yards.

KANE 34, SMETHPORT 0

KANE – Arie Paup ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns to lead Kane to a 34-0 win over visiting Smethport Friday night.

Shane Cotterman, one of a couple of East Forest students playing in a co-op with Kane, added a 40-yard fumble return for a touchdown, while Logan Depto also scored on a touchdown run and forced the fumble that Cotterman scored on.
