KANE 23, SHEFFIELD 12

SHEFFIELD – Behind a balanced offensive attack, Kane knocked off a pesky Sheffield squad 23-12 in AML Crossover action Saturday afternoon in Sheffield.

Kane (2-1 overall, 2-1 AML South) was led by quarterback Alex Anderson who was 7 of 14 passing for 113 yards while adding five carries for 36 yards and a touchdown. Logan Depot added 55 yards rushing and a score and eight yards receiving, while Dylan Eckstrom rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown while also catching one pass for 19 yards.

That helped offset big days from Sheffield’s Craig Fitch and Jasper Rentas. Fitch was 12 of 19 passing for 192 yards and a touchdown while throwing two picks, and Rentas had seven catches for 139 yards and a touchdown. Jimmy Hahn added 61 yards rushing and a score for the Wolverines (1-2, 1-2 AML North).

PORT ALLEGANY 7, JOHNSONBURG 3

PORT ALLEGANY – Facing a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with 23 seconds to play, the Port Allegany defense rose to the occasion stopping Johnsonburg cold to preserve a 7-3 win over the visiting Rams Saturday afternoon.

Johnsonburg (1-2 overall, 1-2 AML South) led 3-0 at halftime thanks to a 22-yard Trey DeCecchis field goal in the second quarter before Port Allegany (2-1, 2-1 AML North) took the 7-3 lead on a 20-yard scoring run by Seth Lowery and Lowery’s extra point.

Lowery led the Gators with 19 carries for 88 yards while also making 17 tackles on defense. Matt Bodamer was 5 of 9 passing for 143 yards, and Ryan Bodamer had 138 all-purpose yards including two catches for 68 yards and 10 carries for 70 yards. On defense, Ryan Bodamer added 11 tackles and three pass break-ups.  

ERIE CATHEDRAL PREP 55, DUBOIS 14

ERIE – Shyquawn Pullium scored three rushing touchdowns while throwing for two scores to lead Erie Cathedral Prep to a 55-14 win over visiting DuBois Saturday afternoon.

Pullium ran seven times for 225 yards scoring on runs of 69, 54 and 72 and was 4 of 8 passing for 73 yards including touchdowns tosses of 20 and 25 yards.

Justin Wiley added three scores for Prep reaching the end zone on run of 36 and 3 yards and catching the 25-yard score from Pullium.

DuBois (2-1) scored on a 2-yard Shawn Newpher run and on an 8-yard pass from Sean Sleigh to Cam Kelly.

Prep led 41-7 at halftime after scoring the game’s first 41 points and outgained DuBois 412-181 in the game.  

Kelly led DuBois with 26 yards rushing and eight yards receiving.

CLEARFIELD 48, INDIAN VALLEY 33

REEDSVILLE – The Clearfield Bisons overcame a 13-point halftime deficit and scored 34 unanswered points in the second half, including 21 points in the fourth quarter in a 48-33 road win at Indian Valley Friday night.

Bisons sophomore quarterback Curtis Frye passed for 267 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions and rushed 10 times for 62 yards and three more scores, all of them in the second half on gains of 1, 2 and 14 yards.

Clearfield (2-1) trailed Indian Valley (1-2), 33-14, when Zach Hassinger scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 42-yard run. Hassinger also scored on runs of 95 and 5 yards and caught a 5-yard TD pass from quarterback Cody Heane and rushed for 163 yards on only eight carries.

But back came the Bisons. Trey Campman, who had five catches for 132 yards and a touchdown and three carries for 23 yards and a touchdown,  scored on a 9-yard run and Frye got the Bisons to within 33-27 with his first TD run on a 1-yarder with 2:03 left in the third quarter. Clearfield went up for good at 34-33 on Frye’s second run from two yards out with 8:32 remaining in the game. Derek Morgan, who caught four passes for 97 yards and a touchown and ran 13 times for 60 yards and a touchdown, scored on a 5-yard run and Frye’s 14-yarder closed out the scoring.

The Bisons outgained the Warriors, 410-366.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 46, A-C VALLEY 6

FOXBURG – Clarion-Limestone led 34-0 by halftime and breezed to a 46-6 Mercy Rule win at A-C Valley Friday night.

Lions quarterback Dan Miller threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Lions won their first game of the year, improving to 1-2. Miller completed 8 of 15 passes for 162 yards. He threw a 27-yard TD pass to Taylor Port, a 9-yarder to Zach Kemmer and a 47-yarder to Jace Rhoads. His 40-yard TD run came in the third quarter.

Kemmer also returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Rhoads threw a 13-yard pass to Port for the Lions’ final score in the fourth quarter.

A-C Valley (0-3) scored its only touchdown at the end of the game when running back Jason Loll threw a 74-yard TD pass to quarterback Michael Orrvick. Throwing the ball, Orrvick completed 8 of 26 yards for 82 yards.

Zac Roller led the Lions with 49 yards rushing on six carries.

COUDERSPORT 23, CURWENSVILLE 6

CURWENSVILLE – Kevin Wolfinger and Mitch Freeman combined for 219 yards and three touchdowns to lead Coudersport to a 23-6 win at Curwensville Friday night.

Wolfinger ran for a game-high 107 yards on 12 carries while adding four catches for 30 yards and a touchdown, and Freeman ran 19 times for 82 yards and two scores in the victory.

Tim McCusker added a 5 of 6 night passing for 58 yards and one score for the Falcons (2-1 overall, 2-1 AML-North), who scored the first 14 points of the fourth quarter to break open a 9-0 halftime lead.

Jed Greslick paced Curwensville with 17 carries for 101 yards and one touchdown, but 54 of those yards came on the game’s final play, the Golden Tides (2-1, 2-1 AML-South) lone score.

Coudersport’s Dirk Cowburn, making his first appearance of the season after joining the team this week, made an immediate impact on both sides of the football and caught a 2-point conversion pass from McCusker in the fourth quarter while also rushing three times for 32 yards and making one catch for 28 yards.

Coudersport outgained Curwensville 321-184 and forced three Golden Tide turnovers.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 42, SMETHPORT 7

SMETHPORT – Ricky Pearsall ran for 286 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries to lead Elk County Catholic to its first win of the season 42-7 over homestanding Smethport Friday night.

Pearsall scored on runs of 74, 75, 7 and 50 yards while helping ECC (1-2 overall, 1-2 AML-South) outgain Smethport (0-3, 0-3 AML-North) 421-200 including 374-200 on the ground.

Smethport actually led 7-6 following an 80-yard Tony Farrell touchdown run midway through the first quarter, but two Pearsall scoring runs gave ECC a 20-7 halftime lead. The Crusaders then scored 22 unanswered second-half points.

Robby Wortman added a 9-yard touchdown reception from Joe Jacob, while Sam Schneider ran for 7-yard score.  

Farrell led Smethport with 148 yards on 15 carries.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 45, MONITEAU 16

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Nick Wehrle and Brennan Niver each scored two touchdowns and Zach Weaver threw a pair of scoring passes and ran for a score to lead Punxsutawney to its first KSAC win of the season 45-16 over visiting Moniteau Friday night.

Niver led a balanced ground game that gained 289 yards with 89 yards on seven carries scoring on runs of 60 and 5 yards, while Wehrle added 80 yards rushing on 14 carries scoring on a 36-yard tote while also catching a 73-yard touchdown pass from Weaver. Weaver was nearly perfect going 8 of 9 passing for 217 yards and two scores. He also hit Braedon Pennington with a 17-yard scoring toss and ran for 70 yards on three carries including a 40-yard touchdown run. Pennington had five catches for 117 yards and the score.

Moniteau (1-2 overall, 1-2 KSAC) got touchdown runs of 36 yards from Kyle Armagost and 80 yards from James Shope. Armagost ran for 65 yards and was 6 of 18 passing for 104 yards and an interception. Shope ran nine times for 95 yards and the touchdown.

Punxsutawney (1-2, 1-1) led 38-9 at halftime.

BRADFORD 46, ERIE CENTRAL TECH 0

BRADFORD – Mark Havers and Pat Pascarella teamed up to score five touchdowns to lead Bradford to a 46-0 win over visiting Erie Central Tech in the District 10 Region 6 opener for the Owls Friday night.

Havers scored on runs of 2, 1 and 1 yards, while Pascarella added a 21-yard scoring run while also returning a free kick 70 yards for a touchdown with Pascarella rushing seven times for 97 yards.

Bradford’s defense added a pair of safeties on tackles by Mike Marasco and David Reinhardt while pitching its first shutout since blanking Erie East 41-0 Oct. 3, 2008.

Marasco also caught a 47-yard scoring pass from Cody Coats for the Owls (3-0 overall, 1-0 D10 Region 6)

Cody Nuzzo continued his amazing kicking for Bradford booting seven touchbacks while going 6-for-6 on extra points.

Brandon Barnes led Erie Central (0-3, 0-2) with 25 carries for 117 yards.
