SHIPPENVILLE Brockways Mike Vervoort would
normally be seen as a high-flying Navy fighter pilot thanks to his
record-setting pass catching abilities, but Saturday afternoon Vervoort
became more like a ground-pounding Marine and that is the reason he is the
RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com Football Player of the Week for Week Two of the
2010 season. With the Rovers backfield beset by injuries,
Vervoort, a senior, stepped in and ran 14 times for 193 yards and three
touchdowns while also catching three passes for 44 yards in Brockways
high-scoring 49-34 win at Port Allegany. Vervoort wasnt the only outstanding performance in
District 9 during the week, and 15 additional players, including his
Brockway teammates Derek Buganza and Kyle Braun, are being honored on the
RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com Honor Roll. The RRR Roadhouse, located in the Clarion Mall, is in
its fourth year of being the sponsor of the Player of the Week award. More
information on the RRR Roadhouse, which also provides catering services
for any occasion, can be found at
www.rrrroadhouse.com or by calling them at 814-227-2000. Located at
www.d9sports.com, D9Sports.com is in its 11th year of
covering athletics within the PIAAs District 9. The site, which is not
affiliated with the PIAA in any way, covers all 26 football playing teams
playing in District 9. For more information on the site, please visit it
or e-mail the staff at
d9sports@usachoice.net. The RRR Roadhouse Player of the Week and the Honor
Roll are chosen by D9Sports.coms selection committee composing of the
D9Sports.com editors and other media members. The awards are not intended
to be a solely statistics driven award and take in many factors including
statistics, opponents, importance of the game, clutch performance, etc. The awards, which are given from Week One through
Week 10, are the only weekly awards given out in District 9 football that
represent the district as a whole.
