DISTRICT 9 CLASS A PLAYOFF CRITERIA

Maximum number of teams in tournament:               8 (eight)

 

Selection process:  This will NOT be an “open” tournament.                                                                   The AML will have four teams guaranteed to participate in the tournament.  The KSAC will have two teams guaranteed to participate in the tournament.  Two teams will be selected as “at large” qualifiers.

 

AML QUALIFYING CRITERIA:

If the AML Champion is an “A” classification team, that team will be the #1 ranked AML team.

The #2, #3, and #4 teams will be ranked using the following criteria:

1.       Winning percentage based on all regular season AML games.

2.       Head to head competition

If there is no “A” classification champion, the #1, #2, #3, and #4 schools will be ranked using the following criteria:

1.       Winning percentage based on all regular season AML games.

2.       Head to head competition

3.       PIAA ranking system.

 

KSAC QUALIFYING CRITERIA:

The #1 and #2 KSAC will qualify using the following criteria and based:

 

1.                   Winning record in the “small” school division of the KSAC.

(Teams included in the division:  AC Valley, Clarion, Clarion-Limestone, Keystone,

Redbank Valley, and Union)

 

2.                   Head to head competition.

 

3.                   PIAA Football ranking system:

a.       Basic Points – “AAA” Teams

120 points for win over a class AAAA opponent

100 points for win over a class AAA opponent

80 points for win over a class AA opponent

60 points for win over a class A opponent

 

    b.     Basic Points – “AA” Teams

140 points for win over a class AAAA opponent

120 points for win over a class AAA opponent

100 points for win over a class AA opponent

80 points for win over a class A opponent

 

    c.      Basic Points – “A” Teams

160 points for win over a class AAAA opponent

140 points for win over a class AAA opponent

120 points for win over a class AA opponent

100 points for win over a class A opponent

 

Power points:

Team A picks up 10 points for every win its opponent earns – PROVIDING – Team A has defeated team B.

 

Example:

Team A (AAAA) 4-0 defeated Team B (AAAA) 2-2 Team A receives 100 basic points plus 20 power points because Team B has 2 victories.

 

4.             PIAA Power Ranking system plus schedule points.

Schedule Points:

All teams will receive schedule points for all games schedule regardless of a win or loss.

40 points for every AAAA team scheduled

30 points for every AAA team scheduled

20 points for every AA team scheduled

10 points for every A team scheduled

 

“AT LARGE TEAMS” QUALFYING SYSTEM:  # 7 and # 8 seeded teams

1.                   Winning percentage based on all games played.

2.                   PIAA ranking system based on all games played.

               


Playoff dates:      Quarter-final games:

Friday or Saturday -            Friday or Saturday - Nov. 11 or Nov. 12        (at higher seeded teams)

                                Semi-final games:                                                                                                                                                              Friday or Saturday -             Friday or Saturday - Nov. 18 or Nov. 19        (at neutral site)

 

                                Championship game:                                                                                                                                                                                                        Friday or Saturday - Nov. 25 or Nov. 26        (at neutral site)

                Notes:

Only games scheduled prior to the first practice date of the 2011 – 2012 season will be considered to enter, qualify, and seed the 2011 - 2012 tournament.

 

If a school does not play a game, or does not play a number of games, or does not complete the season (due to work stoppage, not enough players, etc.), the game or games not played will be considered a forfeit win for their opponent.  The results of games played prior to the team not playing will stand.

 

If a school has a home site for a game and the school’s field is unplayable, the District 9 football committee will pick the site where the game will be played.

 

If a school has a home site for a game and the school chooses not to host the game, the District 9 football committee will pick the site where the game will be played.

 

If Port Allegany High School or Sheffield Area High School qualifies for a home game, the game must be played in the daylight.  Neither school has lights.

 

Schools must declare their intention to enter the tournament before or immediately after their game played on November 4 or November 5, 2011.
