RIDGWAY 16, SHEFFIELD 0

 

SHEFFIELD — Eric Matheson continued his scoring barrage and the Ridgway Elkers turned in their first shutout in three years in a 16-0 win at Sheffield Saturday afternoon.

 

Matheson turned a fumble 58 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and kicked a 29-yard field goal with five seconds left in the first half to give the Elkers (2-1) a 10-0 lead. In the third quarter, Sam Delhunty scored on a 2-yard run.

 

Delhunty led the Elkers with 86 yards rushing on 22 carries. Matheson ran for 38 yards on nine carries and made an interception on defense.

 

Nick Bonavita rushed for 70 yards on 16 carries to lead the Wolverines (0-3).

 

Ridgway notched its first shutout since blanking Otto-Eldred, 41-0, in Week  3 of 2008.

 

KANE 41, CAMERON COUNTY 0

 

KANE  — Jonah  Smith ran for two first-quarter touchdowns and the Kane Wolves shut out visiting Cameron County Friday night, 41-0.

 

Smith was one of five different Wolves to score touchdowns. His runs of 11 and  30 yards got things rolling for the Wolves, who improved to 2-1. Smith ran for 92 yards on 10 carries.

 

Tyler Burdick, Sean Rollick and Andrew Pierson each ran for touchdowns and Nate Moore returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown.

 

Kane's defense limited Cameron County (1-2) to just 53 yards of offense. Nick Stuckey's 22 yards rushing on seven carries led the Red Raiders.

  

REDBANK VALLEY 44, A-C VALLEY 14

 

NEW BETHLEHEM – Jake Dougherty threw two touchdown passes and Kyle Lee ran for a couple of short scores, as Redbank Valley beat visiting A-C Valley 44-14 in KSAC Small School Division Friday night.

 

Dougherty, a freshman, was 8 of 13 for 181 yards and threw touchdown passes of 70 yards to Mark Strothers in the first quarter and 38 yards to Dean Sesco in the third quarter. He also tossed an interception. Strothers had thee grabs for 74 yards.

 

Lee, meanwhile, ran eight times for 82 yards scoring on runs of one and four yards in a second quarter that saw Redbank Valley score 21 unanswered points after trailing 8-7 at the end of the first quarter.

 

Colton Cunningham threw a touchdown pass and ran for a touchdown for A-C Valley.

 

His 1-yard run in the first quarter gave the Falcons an early 8-0 run before he hit Austin Morgan with a 52-yard scoring toss late in the game. Cunningham was 7 of 22 for 72 yards and the score and ran 10 times for 42 yards. Morgan caught three passes for 58 yards, while Kodie Rose had 11 carries for 59 yards.  

CLEARFIELD 55, PENNS VALLEY 14

CLEARFIELD – Beau Swales, Curtis Frye and Rob Myers combined to lead Clearfield to a 55-14 over visiting Penns Valley Friday night.

Swales ran nine times for 158 yards and two touchdowns (73 yards and 64 yards) while also catching two passes for 31 yards and a score. Frye was 6-for-11 passing for 101 yards and three touchdowns, and Myers had two catches for 42 yards and two scores.
Clearfield led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter and 41-7 at halftime. The Bisons outgained Penns Valley 530-192 including 429-92 on the ground.   

BRADFORD 37, ERIE CENTRAL TECH 26

BRADFORD – Zach Britton ran for 220 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass to help Bradford to its first win of the season 37-26 over visiting Erie Central Tech Friday night.
Britton had 20 carries and scored on runs of eight and nine yards and caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Matt Yurkewicz, the lone pass of the game for Bradford.

Bradford led 17-6 at halftime and built it to 24-6 early in the second half.

Ty Riley hit three field goals for the Owls connecting from 21, 26 and 21 yards.

Also reaching the end zone for Bradford was Dan Rinfrette on a 1-yard run.

OTTO-ELDRED 26, JOHNSONBURG 13

JOHNSONBURG – Dakota Vaughn accounted for 246 yards and four rushing touchdowns to lead Otto-Eldred to its first win of the year 26-13 at Johnsonburg Friday night.
Vaughn rushed 16 times for 90 yards including touchdowns of one, one, three and four yards, and also went 6 of 13 passing for 156 yards.  

Coy Hoffman had three catches for 105 yards for the Terrors with Lucas Kerr added 14 carries for 86 yards.

Quinn Luhr threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Frank Kocjancic and a 10-yard scoring toss to Kyle Sheldon for Johnsonburg. Luhr was 10-for-17 for 101 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions with Kocjancic catching six passes for 78 yards and the score. 

BROCKWAY 38, SMETHPORT 14

SMETHPORT – Tom Vervoort ran 172 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brockway to 38-14 win at Smethport Friday night.

Kyle Braun added nine carries for 98 and three touchdowns while throwing for 105 yards passing on 4 of 6 throwing.

Scoring for Smethport were Kevin Lord and Karl Lightner on a pair of third-quarter 3-yard runs.

Brockway led at halftime 24-0.

COUDERSPORT 12, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 7   

ST. MARYS – In a battle of early-season unbeatens Coudersport topped Elk County 12-7 in a defensive struggle Friday night in St. Marys.

All the scoring came in the first half with the Falcons Tim McCusker throwing for a score and rushing for a score. McCusker threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Wilson and ran for a 1-yard score.

ECC’s Brock McCullough returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for the Crusaders lone score.  

CLARION 29, UNION 12

CLARION – T.J. Armstrong scored four touchdowns while running for over 100 yards and also made 15 tackles on defense to lead Clarion to a 29-12 win over visiting Union Friday night.

Armstrong had 25 carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns and caught one pass for six yards and a score.

Union led twice in the first half, 6-0 and 12-7, before Clarion took a 14-12 halftime lead. The Bobcats then dominated the second half in both yards and time of possession, and Armstrong scored on two short runs in the half.

Clarion ended up outgaining Union 307-263 in the game including 296-145 on the ground and held the ball for 28:58 compared to Union’s 19:02.

Camron Kirkland added six carries for 71 yards for Clarion, while Marcus Smerker had 11 carries for 62 yards and one catch for five yards, as senior Brandon Heeter completed 2 of 7 passes in his first action of the season after missing two games with a broken hand. One of those completions was the touchdown to Armstrong.

Taylor Smith was 9 of 21 for 118 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for Union while also running 13 times for 53 yards. Austin Davis ran eight times for 75 yards and a touchdown but only once for zero yards in the second half. Brody Pollock caught four passes for 37 yards and Brody Shick caught a 37-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter from Smith.   

MONITEAU 43, BROOKVILLE 21

BROOKVILLE — Moniteau senior quarterback Kyle Armagost, playing with an injured knee, threw for a career-high 373 yards and three touchdowns as the visiting Warriors pulled away in the second half for a 43-21 win over the Brookville Raiders Friday night.

Armagost completed 15 of 26 passes and was intercepted once. His three TD passes also tied a career high with two going to Brayden McCorry of 46 and 13 yards and one to Ethan Pry for 45 yards. Pry hauled in eight passes for 240 yards. He also had a sack and fumble recovery on defense

The Raiders (1-2) took a 21-14 lead into halftime after quarterback Steven Kennedy scored on a 2-yard run with 33.8 seconds left in the first half, but Moniteau (3-0) exploded for 22 points in the third quarter on three touchdowns, two of them off Raiders turnovers. Armagost’s 45-yarder to Pry and 13-yarder to McCorry was sandwiched around Dustin Geagan’s 4-yard run.

Geagan finished with 122 yards on 20 carries, helping the Warriors amass a whopping 547 yards of offense. He also scored on a 10-yard run in the second quarter.

Sophomore Zach Vroman, filling in for an injured Ryan Kerr in the Raiders backfield, rushed for 150 yards on 21 carries. He scored the Raiders’ first two touchdowns on runs of 2 and 66 yards. Kennedy completed 10 of 16 passes for 114 yards.

KEYSTONE 9, CLARION-LIMESTONE 6

KNOX — Colt O’Neil ran for a 5-yard touchdown and tackled C-L quarterback Billy Kelley in the end zone to lead the Keystone Panthers to their first win of the year in  a 9-6 win over visiting Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

O’Neil got his team its first two points in the first quarter and then made it 8-0 with his scoring run before kicker Ryan Roddy added the point-after kick with 2:46 left in the first quarter. Tanner Hannold led the Panthers’ 200-yard rushing effort with 82 yards on nine carries. O’Neil rushed for 52 yards on 16 carries while Josh Lencer gained 54 yards on 13 attempts.

C-L (1-2) got its points on Kelley’s 10-yard TD pass to Brent Slater in the second quarter. Joe Tommasi led the Lions with 64 yards rushing on 15 carries.

ST. MARYS 34, PUNXSUTAWNEY 12

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Thanks to two huge fourth-quarter runs from Cody Baker, the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen broke open a close game with Punxsutawney on their way to  a 34-12 win.

 

The Dutch were tied with the Chucks (1-2) at 6-6 at intermission and led 13-12 going into the fourth quarter. Baker started a Dutch run of 28 unanswered points when he scored the first of three touchdowns with a 3-yard run in the third quarter. He blasted 83 and 96 yards in the fourth quarter to cap a 221-yard rushing effort on 17 carries.

 

Justin Quiggle started the fourth for the Dutch with a 3-yard run.

 

For Punxsutawney, Alex Fedigan scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter. Garrett Zimmerman threw a 3-yard pass to Luke Janocha late in the fourth quarter. Zimmerman completed 8 of 18 passes for 137 yards.
