ELK COUNTY
CATHOLIC 7, RIDGWAY 0 ST. MARYS — Cole Gerber’s 1-yard
touchdown run with 2:56 left in the game gave the Elk
County Crusaders a 7-0 win over Ridgway Friday night. Gerber’s touchdown capped a
15-play, 64-yard drive to get the win and improve to
6-3, clinching the Crusaders a District 9 Class A
playoff spot. Gerber rushed for 91 yards on 18 carries
in a game with little offense. The Crusaders outgained
the Elkers, 136-46. For Ridgway (5-4), Sam Delhunty
rushed for 44 yards on 11 carries.
REDBANK VALLEY
15, KEYSTONE 8 NEW BETHLEHEM — In a game with no
offensive touchdowns, Redbank Valley returned a punt and
kick for scores in a 15-8 win over visiting Keystone
Friday night. All of the points were scored in
the second quarter. Caleb Smith returned a punt 38 yards
to give the Bulldogs the initial lead, but Keystone tied
the game at 8-8 when Matt Black intercepted Jake
Dougherty and returned the pickoff 35 yards to tie the
game following a two-point conversion pass. But 11
seconds later, Keaton Delp returned the ensuing kickoff
83 yards for the game-winning touchdown. The Bulldogs (5-4) outgained
Keystone (2-7), 216-85. Kyle Lee rushed for 68 yards on
15 carries. Dougherty completed 7 of 14 passes for 65
yards, but was intercepted twice. For Keystone, Tanner
Hannold rushed for 34 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback
Josh Eberhart completed 6 of 14 passes for 66 yards.
KARNS CITY 33,
ST. MARYS 21 KARNS CITY — Alex Kinkela and Glenn
Toy each ran for over 100 yards as the Karns City
Gremlins overcame five turnovers in a 33-21 win over
visiting St. Marys Friday night. Karns City improved to 6-3 as
Kinkela rushed for 113 yards on just seven carries with
two touchdowns. Toy rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries
with two scores. The Gremlins jumped out to leads of
20-0 and 33-6 before holding on for the win as St. Marys
(5-4) made things a little closer with two four-quarter
touchdowns on Cody Baker’s 1-yard run and Alex
Coudriet’s 3-yard pass to Justin Quiggle with 13 seconds
left in the game. Baker rushed for 94 yards on 24
carries with Quiggle carrying the ball 24 times for 75
yards.
MONITEAU 51,
KENNEDY CATHOLIC 8 WEST SUNBURY — The Moniteau Warriors routed District 10’s Kennedy Catholic, 51-8, and wrapped up their schedule at 9-0, their first unbeaten, untied regular season ever. Warriors quarterback Kyle Armagost
threw three touchdown passes in the first half,
completing 9 of 14 passes for 171 yards. The Warriors
led 39-0 at halftime and wound up outgaining Kennedy
Catholic, 374-52.
CLEARFIELD 44,
BELLEFONTE 0 BELLEFONTE — The Clearfield Bisons
notched a 44-0 shutout at Bellefonte and
gave head coach Tim Janocko his 202nd
career win Friday night. The Bisons (8-1) were dominant
defensively, holding the Red Raiders to negative yardage
in the first half and only 81 for the game. They also
blocked a punt to set up a touchdown and recorded a
safety. Most of Clearfield’s offense came
on the ground as Christian Lezzer and Beau Swales led a
323-yard rushing attack. Lezzer ran for 123 yards on
only seven carries. He scored three touchdowns on
runs of 34 and 42 yards, and caught a 35-yard
pass from Curtis Frye. Swales, who went over 1,300 yards
for the season, ran for 97 yards on seven carries and
scored twice on two 2-yard runs.
GROVE CITY 63,
DUBOIS 21 GROVE CITY — The DuBois Beavers
were no match for state-ranked Grove City, especially in
the second half as the Eagles scored 42 points in the
second half in a 63-21 rout Friday night. The unbeaten Eagles (9-0), ranked
third in the state in Class AAA, led just 21-14 at
halftime before pouring it on in the second half. Wes
Phipps scored three touchdowns while Tyler Dagres and
Foster Reznor each scored twice as the Eagles outgained
the Beavers, 509-212. The Beavers (7-2) scored all three
touchdowns on passes by quarterback Sean Sleigh, who
completed 16 of 32 passes for 189 yards with two
interceptions. Sleigh threw scoring passes of 25 and 5
yards to Max Hine
and a 9-yarder to Shaun Foley.
UNION 49, A-C
VALLEY 0 FOXBURG — The Union Knights routed
A-C Valley, 49-0, and qualified for the District 9 Class
A playoffs for the first time in their history. The Knights (6-3) breezed to the
playoff-clinching win after leading 37-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Taylor Smith completed 8 of 14 passes for
214 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, throwing
for two, running for one and returning an interception
for a score. Brody Pollock caught a 72-yard pass from
Smith and returned an interception 45 for another
touchdown. A-C Valley (1-8) was limited to 101
yards.
BROCKWAY 44, KANE
7 BROOKVILLE — The Brockway turned in
a convincing performance in a 44-7 route of visiting
Kane and clinched the Allegheny Mountain League’s South
Division title for the second straight year. The win
puts the Rovers in next Friday’s AML title game at home
against Port Allegany. Brockway (7-2) led 17-0 at
halftime. After Kane (4-5) got to within 17-7 on its
only touchdown when Sean Jordan threw a 23-yard pass to
Sean Rolick early in the third quarter, the Rovers
scored the final 27 points of the game to break things
open. Levi Miller and Chad Melillo each
scored two touchdowns while Rovers quarterback Kyle
Braun three a 43-yard TD pass to Miller and scored on a
23-yard run. Miller also scored on a 56-run. Melillo run
for touchdowns of 26 and 1 yards. Anthony Benson wrapped
up the scoring with a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Kicker Phil Esposito kicked an 18-yard field goal with
time running out in the first half. The Rovers piled up 440 rushing
yards, led by Braun’s 118 yards on 11 carries. Tom
Vervoort ran for 106 yards on 16 attempts and Melillo
finished with 85 yards on 10 carries. Kane’s Sean Jordan completed 10 of
17 passes for 180 yards. Receiver Tyler Ennis caught
four passes for 102 yards and Rolick caught five balls
for 94 yards. STRONG VINCENT 27, BRADFORD 10 ERIE – Strong Vincent scored 20
unanswered points in the fourth quarter to beat Bradford
27-10 at Erie Veterans Stadium Friday. The Owls (3-6) scored all of their
points in the first half, thanks to a 4-yard touchdown
run by Sean Siffrinn and a 29-yard field goal by Ty
Riley. Cory Henry, Michael Neavins and
Denzel Jones all scored on touchdowns runs in the fourth
quarter for the Colonels (7-2). Matt Yurkewicz rushed 19 times for
125 yards for the Owls in defeat. Bradford concludes its
season against DuBois Friday.
SHEFFIELD 28,
CAMERON COUNTY 8 EMPORIUM — Nick Bonavita rushed for
186 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns to
lead the Sheffield Wolverines to a 28-8 win at Cameron
County Friday night. Bonavita ran for touchdowns of 11
and 99 yards and caught a 23-yard pass from quarterback
Ike Nearing, who also threw a 14-yard TD pass to Nate
Charlton. The Wolverines improved to 4-5
while Cameron County, which managed just 152 yards of
offense, finished the year at 2-7. Nick Stuckey scored
the Red Raiders’ lone touchdown on a 4-yard
run. SMETHPORT 35, OTTO-ELDRED 16 SMETHPORT – Karl Lightner ran for
159 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns to lead
Smethport to a 35-16 win over Otto-Eldred. Lightner’ s two touchdown runs,
coupled with a pair of touchdown passes from Kevin Lord
to Clay Schuler gave the Hubbers (2-7) a commanding 27-0
lead at halftime. Lord would add a TD run in the third
quarter to stretch the lead to 34-0. Otto (1-8) scored on 33 and 25 yard
runs by Luke Kerr. Kerr finished the game with 124 yards
on the ground on 15 carries. Lord had 141yards passing to go
with his three total touchdowns for Smethport.
PORT ALLEGANY 49,
COUDERSPORT 7 COUDERSPORT – Matt Bodamer
accounted for 368 yards of offense and four touchdowns,
as Port Allegany blew past previously unbeaten
Coudersport to win its first AML divisional title since
2000 with a 49-7 win over the homestanding Falcons. Bodamer was 14 of 21 passing for
264 yards and two touchdowns and ran seven times for 104
yards and two scores. He accounted for the first 12
points of the game for the Gators scoring on a 20-yard
run and then throwing a 22-yard touchdown pass to
Charlie Buchanan, as Port Allegany (8-1) built a 20-0
lead at the end of the first quarter. Trey Miller also scored in the
opening quarter on a 4-yard run, and then Bodamer hit
Trevor Neal with a 67-yard touchdown pass before scoring
on a 1-yard run in the second quarter as the Gators led
34-0 at halftime. A 3-yard Trent Neal touchdown run
in the third quarter put the Mercy Rule into action
before Tim McCusker hit
Alex Hutcheson on a 27-yard scoring pass to get
Coudersport (8-1) on the board.
Trent Neal then finished off the scoring with his
second touchdown of the game on a 6-yard run in the
fourth quarter. He finished the game with 113 yards
rushing on 18 carries.
Trevor Neal had 77 yards receiving, Tyce Miller added
76 yards receiving and Rickie Bova 69 yards receiving
for the Gators, who had 541 yards of total offense.
With the victory, Port Allegany will now host
Brockway in the AML Title game Nov. 5. It is the Gators
first AML Title game appearance since losing to
Curwensville in 2000. They are the first team other than
Cameron County or Coudersport to represent the AML North
in the AML Title Game since Smethport in 2001.
Port Allegany is
looking for its first AML Title since beating Ridgway
19-14 in 1988.
BROOKVILLE 27,
PUNXSUTAWNEY 14 BROOKVILLE — Jumping out to a 20-0
first-half lead while limiting the visiting Punxsutawney
Chucks to minus-2 yards of offense at intermission, the
Brookville Raiders reclaimed the Route 36 Trophy with a
27-14 win Friday night. Four different Raiders scored
touchdowns as Brookville (5-4) ended a two-game losing
streak to the Chucks (2-7). Brodie Zacherl, Conan
Gilhousen, Steven Kennedy and Zach Vroman each ran for
touchdowns as the Raiders ran for 264 yards overall. Zacherl led the way with 90 yards
on 16 carries. He started the game’s scoring with a
10-yard run on the team’s first possession. Gilhousen
followed with a 21-yard run the next time the Raiders
had the ball and Kennedy ran one in from the 1-yard line
late in the first half. Vroman, who ran for 89 yards on
nine carries, scored the final touchdown on
a 39-yard run midway through the third quarter. The Raiders outgained the Chucks,
311-158, and intercepted Chucks quarterback Garrett
Zimmerman four times, twice by Sebastian Kerr. Zimmerman
completed 6 of 25 passes for 90 yards. He threw a
12-yard TD pass to Jamie Bush two plays after the
Chucks’ Hayden Muth intercepted Steven Kennedy at the
Raiders’ 18. Cory Brooks scored on a 1-yard run on the
Chucks’ next possession later in the third quarter.
CLARION 52,
CLARION-LIMESTONE 6 STRATTANVILLE – T.J. Armstrong ran
for 94 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries, as
visiting Clarion rolled to its eighth straight win over
rival Clarion-Limestone 52-6 Friday night. Clarion (6-3 overall, 5-0 KSAC
Small School Division) led 39-0 at halftime after
outgaining C-L (1-8, 1-4) 295-3 in the half and picking
up 16 first downs to the Lions one with that first down
coming on a penalty on the last timed play of the first
half. Camron Kirkland added a 39-yard
interception return for a touchdown for Clarion, while
Ian Matson (3-yard run), Marcus Smerker (24-yard pass
from Brandon Heeter), Damien Slike (2-yard run) and Ben
Babington (15-yard run) also scored for the Bobcats. Kyle Robertson led C-L with 54
yards rushing including a 35-yard touchdown run in the
second half. |
