PUNXSUTAWNEY 35, WEST SHAMOKIN 6 PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney closed
out its season with a 35-6 win over visiting and winless
West Shamokin Friday night. Garrett Zimmerman threw a pair of
touchdown passes, including the ultra-rare scoring toss
to himself on a play that bounced off a helmet, and also
ran for a touchdown, forced a fumble and picked off a
pass to lead the Chucks. Zimmerman was 7 of 15 passing
for 92 yards and also threw a scoring pass to Clayton
Dale, who had two fumble recoveries on defense as well.
Also scoring for the Chucks were
Alex Fedigan and Christian Maruca. Zac Horner scored the lone
touchdown for West Shamokin.
A-C VALLEY 18, CONNEAUT VALLEY 16 FOXBURG – Mike Suto, Kevin Kaufman
and Kodie Rose all scored touchdowns to lead A-C Valley
to its first win over a Pennsylvania team in over six
years with an 18-16 victory over visiting Conneaut
Valley Friday night. A-C Valley (2-7) last beat a
Pennsylvania team Oct. 7, 2005, when it topped Union
26-13. The Falcons lost 55 straight games to
Pennsylvania squads and had gone just 2-55 in their
previous 57 games heading into Friday night with the
lone two wins coming over Hancock, Md., this year and
last year.
Rose had 79 yards rushing on 16
carries and scored A-C Valley’s first touchdown, while
Kaufman had 62 yards rushing on 10 carries and a rushing
touchdown. Suto added a 92-yard fumble return for a
score and added 12 carries for 75 yards. Kaufman also
intercepted three passes on defense and had five
tackles, while Jimmy Holton led the Falcons with 12
stops. A-C Valley led 6-0 at halftime
before Suto and Kaufman scored in the third quarter to
give the Falcons an 18-8 lead going to the fourth
quarter. The two wins give A-C Valley its
first multiple-win season since going 3-6 in 2004.
KEYSTONE 35, JOHNSONBURG 6 JOHNSONBURG – Behind a pair of
Tanner Hannold touchdowns, Keystone picked up its third
win of the season, 35-6, at winless Johnsonburg Friday
night. Hannold caught a 44-yard touchdown
pass from Josh Eberhart and then returned a kickoff 60
yards for a touchdown for the Panthers (3-7). The punt return was one of two
special teams’ touchdowns for Keystone, which also got a
blocked punt by Josh Lencer that was recovered by Colt
O’Neil in the end zone for a score. Eberhart and Lencer each added
touchdown runs for Keystone with Eberhart going 5-for-10
passing for 81 yards. Hannold ran for 62 yards and was 2
of 3 passing for 23 yards while adding 44 yards
receiving.
DUBOIS 52, BRADFORD 21 BRADFORD – Sean Sleigh threw for
three touchdowns and ran for a fourth, as DuBois
eliminated Bradford from playoff contention with a 52-21
road win Friday night. Sleigh was 14 of 27 passing for 204
yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while
rushing seven times for 44 yards and a score. Brady Haines added 12 carries for
109 yards and two touchdowns while also making four
tackles, including a sack, for the Beavers (8-2), who
have won eight games for the first time since going 8-2
in 2005. Max Hine was Sleigh’s favorite
target making eight catches for 128 yards and a
touchdown, while Joey Morrison led the Beaver defense
with 18 tackles, including a sack. Matt Yurkewicz ran for a touchdown
and threw for a touchdown for Bradford with his
touchdown pass going to Dylan Lamberson. Dan Rinfrette
also scored a rushing touchdown for the Owls, who led
7-0 early but trailed 28-7 at halftime. With Bradford’s loss, St. Marys
clinches the second spot opposite of Clearfield in the
District 9 Class AAA title game.
CLEARFIELD 35, HUNTINGDON 7 CLEARFIELD – Curtis Frye ran for a
touchdown and threw for a score, and Ryan Hertlein ran
for a pair of scores to lead Clearfield to a
regular-season ending 35-7 win over visiting Huntingdon
Friday night. Frye was 3-for-6 for 70 yards
passing and a touchdown and ran five times for 15 yards
and a score with Hertlein adding five carries for 39
yards and a score. Beau Swales led the Bison offense
with 127 yards rushing and a touchdown on 20 carries,
while Robbie Myers had the touchdown catch and finished
with one catch for 17 yards. Clearfield (9-1) led 35-0 before
Huntingdon score with just over two minutes to play and
the Mercy Rule running. The Bisons will face St. Marys next
week in the District 9 Class AAA title game.
KARNS CITY 46,
CLARION 28 CLARION – Glenn Toy ran for 218
yards and five touchdowns on 18 carries, and Alex
Kinkela added 101 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries
to lead Karns City to a regular-season ending 46-28 win
at Clarion Friday night. Karns City scored on all five of
its first-half possessions including touchdown runs of
18, 71, 6 and 9 yards by Toy and a 24-yard Kinkela run
to lead 32-20 at halftime. Clarion, which was led by T.J.
Armstrong’s 17 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown,
closed within four, 32-28, early in the fourth quarter
on a 9-yard Armstrong scoring run and then had the ball
at the Karns City 38-yard line with just over eight
minutes to play before the Gremlins came up with a stop
on fourth down. A muffed punt by the Bobcats then
led to a 13-yard Kinkela touchdown run that put the game
away with 4:51 to play, and Toy added a late score. Brandon Heeter was 10-for-22
passing for 157 yards, a touchdown and two
interceptions. Armstrong led Clarion’s defense with 16
tackles, Ian Matson had 13 and Antonio Troese 12.
REDBANK VALLEY
20, BROOKVILLE 7 NEW BETHLEHEM — Kyle Lee ran for
three touchdowns, including two within a span of 27
seconds in the second quarter to lead the Redbank Valley
Bulldogs to a 20-7 win over visiting Brookville Friday
night. Lee scored on a 1-yard run on the
first play of the second quarter. Then on the first play
after the ensuing kickoff when Devin Birkhouse recovered
a Raiders fumble at the Raiders’ 8-yard line, Lee ran in
from 13 yards out to put the Bulldogs (6-4) up 14-0 at
the 11:30 mark of the second quarter. Brookville (5-5) followed the score
with its only touchdown of the night on Zach Vroman’s
7-yard run, but the Raiders would get no further as the
Bulldogs started the second half with a 6-play, 63-yard
scoring drive that was capped by Lee’s 40-yard at the
9:50 mark of the third quarter. Lee finished with 144 yards on 16
carries while Mark Strothers ran for 62 yards on 11
carries as the Bulldogs rushed for 260 yards and
outgained the Raiders, 299-194, limiting Brookville to
just 59 yards in the first half. Steven Kennedy completed 12 for 18
passes for just 64 yards for the Raiders, who were held
to a season-low 92 yards rushing.
RIDGWAY 35, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0 STRATTANVILLE — Eric Matheson threw
for a touchdown and caught another as five different
players found the end zone in the Ridgway Elkers’ 35-0
win at Clarion-Limestone Friday night, wrapping up the
season for both teams. Matheson started the game’s scoring
with a 48-yard pass to Aaron Sorge less than two minutes
into regulation. He caught a 37-yard pass from
quarterback Jordan Lundin to put the Elkers up 28-0
before halftime. Also scoring for the Elkers (6-4)
were Mike Cappiello on
a 17-yard run
in the first quarter, Jared Casolo on
a 1-yard run in the second quarter and Steve
Mitchell on
a 5-yard run
to close the game’s scoring early in the fourth quarter. Sam Delhunty rushed
for 74 yards on 12 carries with Cappiello gaining
55 on only six attempts. Lundin completed 4 of 6 passes
for 57 yards. Ridgway outgained C-L (1-9),
332-142. Lions quarterback Christian Bakewell completed
12 of 28 passes for 130 yards, but was intercepted three
times by Matheson, Cappiello and Zac McKnight.
OTTO-ELDRED 44, COWANESQUE VALLEY 6 DUKE CENTER — Luke Kerr ran for 152
yards and scored four total touchdowns (3 rushing, 1
receiving) to lead Otto-Eldred to a 44-6 over Cowanesque
Valley Friday. Kerr scored on runs of 45, 27, and
15 yards, while catching a 29 yard pass from QB Dakota
Vaughn. The Terrors erupted for 30 points,
in the second half after leading 14-0 at halftime, Sam Colebert scored on a five-yard
run and Seth Bigley a three-yard jaunt to account for
O-E's other scores. Andrew Lawrence finished with three
sacks on the night to lead the Terrors defense, while
Vaughn completed 8 of 17 passes for 166 yards and a
touchdown.
