For the first of just two times this year, District 9’s football schedule will be played entirely on Friday night as 15 games are scheduled for this week all under the lights.

The only other time that will happen is Week 9 on Oct. 28.

This week, four District 9 games feature teams coming off opening-week wins.  In the Allegheny Mountain League, it’s another week of crossover divisions games as Brockway hosts Port Allegany and Kane travels to Coudersport. The Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference is playing out of division as well as Clarion travels to Moniteau and Clarion-Limestone heads to St. Marys in games involving 1-0 teams.

In the AML, the Rovers and Gators square off in a game that could lead to a lot of points. Last year, Brockway beat Port Allegany 49-34 in a wild affair. First-year Rovers starting quarterback Kyle Braun had a good debut against Sheffield, rushing for 122 yards to go along with his 85-yard kick return. Port Allegany quarterback Matt Bodamer passed for 311 yards and five touchdowns in the Gators’ shootout win over Ridgway.

Smethport (0-1) heads to Ridgway (0-1) in what could be an interesting matchup of winless teams. Both teams scored a lot of points in losses. The Hubbers, in a 53-33 loss to Curwensville, got 178 yards rushing from Karl Lightner. Ridgway quarterback Jordan Lundin passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns in the Elkers’ 46-35 loss to Port Allegany.

Also in the AML, Curwensville (1-0) hosts Sheffield (0-1) as Tide running back Alex Holland is coming off a 312-yard rushing effort in last week’s win over Sheffield. His three fourth-quarter TD runs accounted for 210 yards alone. Johnsonburg visits Cameron County in a battle of 0-1 teams.

In the KSAC, Moniteau hosts Clarion as the Warriors will try to beat the Bobcats at home for the first time since 2003 and in back-to-back years for the first time since 1969 and 1970. While Clarion had an easy time with Keystone, Moniteau had to block a field goal late in the game to beat Karns City. Quarterback Kyle Armagost passed for 144 yards and rushed for 96 yards, accounting for three of his team’s touchdowns.

Also in the KSAC, Karns City (0-1) visits Redbank Valley (1-0) as the Bulldogs will try to beat the Gremlins at home for the first time since 1999. Brookville (0-1) travels to Keystone (0-1) and A-C Valley (0-1) hosts Punxsutawney (1-0). Union (0-1) travels outside District 9 when the Knights head to Saegertown (0-1).

Elsewhere, DuBois (1-0) begins its District 10 Region 5 schedule when it visits Oil City. Bradford (0-1) begins its District 10 Region 6 schedule at Meadville (1-0).  Clearfield (1-0) travels to Wingate to play Bald Eagle Area (0-1).
