It’s one more week of Allegheny
Mountain League crossover games to go along with inter-division
Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference matchups as District 9
football heads into Week 4 this weekend.
Some 15 games dot the schedule
this week, all of them on Friday night with the exception of
Saturday afternoon’s Elk County Catholic at Port Allegany
contest.
Here is a closer look at the
schedule, by conference:
Allegheny Mountain
League
It’s an important week especially
for the AML-South Division as five of the six teams are 2-1, so
wins this weekend will help them get off to a good start heading
into divisional scheduling.
Probably the best matchup has
Brockway (2-1) traveling to Coudersport (3-0), which shared a
perfect record in the AML-North with Port Allegany. The Rovers
are led by quarterback Kyle Braun, who’s rushed for 325 yards
and five touchdowns while throwing for 248 yards. Tom Vervoort
has rushed for 352 yards and five scores. Quarterback Tim
McCusker (232 yards passing, 3 TDs) and running back Caden
Whitman (330 yards, 4 TDs) lead Coudersport.
Saturday, Port Allegany (3-0)
will try to build off last week’s impressive win over
Curwensville by hosting Elk County Catholic (2-1). Gators
quarterback Matt Bodamer went over 4,000 career yards passing
last week. He’s up to 903 yards passing for the season with 13
touchdowns against just one interception. ECC’s Cole Gerber’s
337 yards rushing rank seventh in the district.
Elsewhere, Curwensville (2-1)
will try to rebound from the Port Allegany loss with a trip to
Otto-Eldred (1-2). Alex Holland, who also went over 4,000 career
yards in rushing, leads the district with 757 yards rushing this
year.
Ridgway (2-1) hosts Cameron
County (1-2). Elkers senior Eric Matheson leads the district in
scoring with 61 points, which includes eight touchdowns. He
scored a touchdown on his third fumble return/recovery last week
against Sheffield.
In other AML games, Kane (2-1)
hosts Smethport (0-3) and Sheffield (0-3) visits Johnsonburg
(0-3).
Keystone Shortway
Athletic Conference
Two teams from the KSAC-Large
School division — St. Marys and Moniteau — will put their 3-0
records on the line against KSAC-Small School teams.
St. Marys hosts Clarion (2-1) at
Dutch Country Stadium. The Dutch’s Cody Baker ranks second in
the district in rushing with 476 yards. He scored on runs of 96
and 83 yards in the fourth quarter of last week’s win over
Punxsutawney. Clarion’s T.J. Armstrong has rushed for 239 yards
and three scores. The Dutch haven’t been 4-0 in at least a
quarter of a century and while an exact season isn’t know, many
in St. Marys believe it may go back as far as the undefeated
1966 team being the last Dutch squad to start 4-0.
Moniteau travels to Redbank
Valley (2-1). The Warriors are coming off an impressive effort
in a 43-21 win at Brookville. Quarterback Kyle Armagost, limited
to throwing out of the shotgun formation due to a knee injury,
threw for a career-high 373 yards. His 631 yards for the season
is second in the district.
In other KSAC games, Brookville
(1-2) heads to A-C Valley (0-3) and Karns City (1-2) hosts
Keystone (1-2). In another game against a District 10 school,
Union (1-2) hosts Maplewood (0-3), which has been outscored
94-18 in losses to Kennedy Catholic, Eisenhower and Youngsville.
Union quarterback Taylor Smith’s 371 yards passing rank sixth in
the district.
Other
Unbeaten Clearfield (3-0) hosts a
new school with Mifflin County (2-1) coming to the Bison Sports
Complex. It’s a new jointure that combined the old school
districts of Lewistown and Indian Valley. Bisons running back
Beau Swales is third in the district in rushing with 442 yards.
Clearfield has scored 104 points in its last two wins.
DuBois (2-1) hosts Franklin
(0-3), which has lost 10 of its last 11 games. Beavers
quarterback Sean Sleigh’s 500 yards passing is third in the
district. Brady Haines has rushed for 285 yards.
Bradford (1-2) hosts winless Fort
LeBoeuf (0-3). Owls running back Zach Britton is third in the
district with 361 yards rushing.
