RIDGWAY – It didn’t take Port Allegany quarterback Matt Bodamer very long
to tie and then break Derek Buganza’s District 9 career passing touchdown
mark.
Bodamer, a senior who entered the game with 93 career throwing scores two
shy of Buganza’s D9 record of 95, needed all of 4 ½ minutes to tie the
former Brockway star and a mere nine minutes to surpass the record set in
2010.
In all, Bodamer threw seven first-half scoring passes helping the visiting
Gators (3-0 overall, 3-0 AML North) blow away Ridgway (1-2, 1-2 AML South)
55-14 Friday night.
The seven scoring passes give Bodamer 100 in his career, just the third
quarterback in state history with 100 throwing touchdowns. He needs 18
touchdowns to tie the state record of 118 set by Lancaster Catholic’s Kyle
Smith in 2009.
Bodamer finished the game an unofficial 16 of 18 for 286 yards and the
seven scores while also running three times for 51 yards. The seven
throwing touchdowns are tied for
the second most in a game in District 9 history. Buganza threw for eight
in a win over Smethport Sept. 17, 2010, while Clearfield’s Chad Kroell had
seven in a victory over Philipsburg-Osceola in 1994.
Nick Conway caught three of the touchdown passes and ended the game with
three catches for 72 yards. Tyce Miller caught five ball for 105 yards and
one touchdown, and Rickie Bova had three grabs for 46 yards and two
touchdowns. Alex Gular also had a touchdown catch for the Gators, while
backup quarterback Jordan Seefeldt scored on a second-half run.
Ridgway got two second-half rushing touchdowns from Zac McKnight, who ran
nine times for 159 yards including a 71-yard scoring run.
