PORT ALLEGANY – In what was supposed to be a match-up of the top two aerial teams in District 9 Class A, it turns out one team was flying modern stealth bombers and the other was flying World War II-era prop bombers.

Behind 346 yard passing and five touchdowns from Matt Bodamer, who became Pennsylvania and District 9’s all-time leading passer during the first half, Port Allegany blew away Brockway 55-20 in a battle of AML unbeatens Saturday afternoon in Port Allegany – and the game wasn’t even that close.

The Gators (9-0) led 48-7 at halftime and 55-7 after three quarters.

Bodamer, who now has 9,787 career passing yards passing former Brockway hurler Derek Buganza’s previous District 9 and Pennsylvania record of 9,752, was a big reason the game was never close throwing five first-half touchdowns, including four in the second quarter, and adding two touchdown runs for good measure.

He threw three of the scoring passes to Nick Conway, who had four catches for 74 yards while tossing one scoring pass apiece to Rickie Bova and Tyce Miller. Bova caught six passes for 98 yards with Miller adding three grabs for 106 yards.

Bodamer also ran six times for a team-high 61 yards including a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that put the Gators ahead 14-0.

Trent Neal got the scoring started for Port Allegany with a 16-yard run, and after Bodamer scored on the sneak, he found Bova with a 4-yard scoring pass to make it 20-0.

Brockway (8-1) tried to make a game of it early in the second quarter when Chad Melillo scored on an 8-yard run, just the second touchdown allowed by Port Allegany’s varsity defense this year, to make it 20-7, but four Bodamer touchdown passes before the end of the half squashed that idea.

First, he hit Conway with a 37-yard toss and then found Conway again for the 2-point conversion before nailing Conway with a 15-yard scoring pass to make it 35-7. He then found Miller on a 60-yard hookup before tossing a 13-yard pass to Conway.

Bodamer capped his day off with a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter making it 55-7.

Brockway scored two meaningless fourth-quarter touchdowns, as backup quarterback Braden Martini threw a touchdown pass and William Kurtz ran for a score.

The two teams will square off again at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the AML Title game with the winner of that contest being the top seed in the District 9 Class A playoffs and the loser taking the No. 3 seed.

NOTES – Buganza needed just three years to throw for his 9,752 yards, while Bodamer has been a four-year starter for Port Allegany and has played in 11 more games than the Brockway quarterback did … Bodamer’s five touchdown passes give him 126 in his career. He is the Pennsylvania-record holder in that category as well … With the 61 rushing yards, Bodamer is 26 yards shy of 2,000 rushing yards in his career. He has rushed for 38 career touchdowns … It was the fourth straight win in the last two years by Port Allegany over Brockway … Port Allegany amassed 506 yards of total offense including 155 on the ground.
