MONACA – Aliquippa scored 31 first-quarter points and never looked back on its way to an 51-15 win over Karns City in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals Friday night at Central Valley High School in Monaca.

The Quips (14-0), the WPIAL champions, went over 700 points scored on the season (709) while ending a surprising run by the Gremlins (10-4), who became just the second team this season to score in double digits on Aliquippa.  

Dravon Henry did most of early damage for Aliquippa rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries in the first quarter. He scored on runs of 6 and 63 yards in the quarter.

Henry’s first touchdown was the game’s first score on Aliquippa’s first possession with 7:35 left in the quarter, and the Quips scored 23 more points in the next 6 ½ minutes.  

A sack of Tyler Kepple in the end zone less than a minute later  made it 10-0, and then, after the free kick, Terry Swanson scored on an 8-yard run at the 5:53 mark to make it 17-0. Herny’s second touchdown run, the first of four scores of 60-plus yards for the Quipps, with 3:41 left in the first quarter made it 24-0 , and Jyier Turner then made it 31-0 with a 69-yard touchdown run.

Aliquippa didn’t slow down in the second quarter scoring on a 60-yard quarterback keeper by Malik Shegog and a 26-yard Swanson run to make it 44-0 at halftime before putting the junior varsity in the game.

Karns City finally scored against the second-string defense on a 22-yard Kepple to Adam Whited touchdown pass with 2:13 left in the third quarter before Aliquippa answered with a 64-yard touchdown run by Kaezon Pugh on the first play from scrimmage after the Whited touchdown to make it 51-7.

The Gremlins’ finished the scoring with a 5-yard Zach Moore touchdown catch from Kepple with 2:07 left in the game. Karns City then converted the two-point conversion out of the muddle huddle.

NOTES – The 15 points were the most allowed by Aliquippa this season. The Quips entered the game having allowed 49 points on the year with Lincoln scoring 12, the previous high, Oct. 12 … Karns City had 34 yards in the first half against the first-team Aliquippa offense including five yards rushing. The Quips first-team offense rushed for 326 yards in the first half.
