WEST MIDDLESEX
27, MONITEAU 8 NEW WILMINGTON – West Middlesex
jumped out to a 20-0 lead at the end of three quarters
on its way to a 27-8 win over Moniteau Saturday. Moniteau’s lone score came on a
17-yard Denny Pry to Drew Yeckel pass early in the
fourth quarter. Pry was 4-for-11 for 47 yards, the
touchdown and an interception. Yeckel had three catches
for 36 yards. Trey Staunch led West Middlesex 6
of 14 for 121 yards while rushing 12 times for 36 yards
and two touchdowns.
CLARION 34, KARNS
CITY 12 KARNS CITY – Behind Cody Hearst’s
stellar all-around game and strong performances from
T.J. Armstrong and John Katis, Clarion won at Karns City
for the first time since 1999 thanks to a 34-12 victory
Saturday night. Hearst pretty much did it all for
the Bobcats (2-0) scoring twice on touchdown catches,
recording 13 tackles on defense and blocking two Karns
City (1-1) punts. He finished the night with three
catches for 77 yards, had 2 ˝ tackles for a loss and one
pass breakup. Armstrong, meanwhile, rushed 17
times for 69 yards and two touchdowns and also caught
and 8-yard scoring pass from Katis, who was 7-for-8 for
148 yards and three scores in helping Clarion end a
seven-game overall losing streak to Karns City. Tyler Kepple threw for a touchdown
while going 5-for-11 for 49 yards with an interception
for Karns City. He also led the Gremlins with 11 carries
for 70 yards. Tristan Rhoades added six totes for 52
yards and a touchdown, while Logan Moroney hauled in the
scoring pass from Kepple.
PORT ALLEGANY 46,
KANE 13 PORT ALLEGANY – Matt Bodamer
accounted for 350 yards of total offense and five
touchdowns in helping Port Allegany to a key
early-season AML win, 46-13, over visiting Kane Saturday
afternoon. Bodamer was 17-for-22 passing for
230 yards and three touchdowns and ran 18 times for 120
yards and two scores. The three scoring passes give him
93 in his career, two shy of tying the District 9 record
of 95 set by Brockway’s Derek Buganza. He also has 7,565
career passing yards, which is the eighth most in
Pennsylvania history. Buganza holds the state record
with 9,752. Bodamer connected on touchdown
passes of one and 14 yards to Tyce Miller and 18 to Nick
Conway while scoring on runs of four and 23 yards. Trent
Neal also scored on a 10-yard run for the Gators, while
freshman Jordan Seefeldt threw his first career
touchdown pass to Mac Tanner leaving him 92 shy of the
school record. Conway had nine catches for 139
yards, while Miller had seven for 80. Neal ran for 111
yards on 16 carries. Kane, which was held to minus two
yards rushing thanks in large part to seven Port
Allegany sacks, scored on 3-yard John Welch run and on
an 8-yard pass from Sean Jordan to Tyler Ennis.
CURWENSVILLE 46,
CAMERON COUNTY 20 CURWENSVILLE — The Curwensville
Golden Tide gave their head coach Andy Evanko his 100th
career win as they put together one of their traditional
big-running numbers games in a 46-20 win over Cameron
County Friday night. The Golden Tide gained 354 yards on
50 carries, getting 100-yard games from Josh Greslick
(16-161) and Zach Tibbens (16-143). Tibbens ran for two
scores on runs of 20 and 16 yards while Greslick scored
on a 50-yard run. The Tide also got some production
from their passing game and quarterback Hunter
McCracken, who completed 5 of 8 passes for 113 yards and
three touchdowns, all of his completions going to Jordan
Russell, who caught scoring tosses of 22, 65 and 16
yards. Curwensville (2-0) led 32-12 at
halftime. Cameron County quarterback Tucker Britton
threw a 6-yard TD pass to Devin Mason and ran in a score
on an 18-yard run. The Red Raiders fell to 0-2. Evanko improved his career record
to 100-37 in his 13th season.
CLEARFIELD 47,
PENNS VALLEY 0 SPRING MILLS — In a game delayed
more than 2 ˝ hours by lightning, the Clearfield Bisons
got a big game from Tyler Stratton in a 47-0 blowout win
at Penns Valley Friday night. Stratton scored four touchdowns,
opening the game’s scoring on the second play with a
34-yard interception. He then scored on runs of 4,1 and
8 yards to help the Bisons (2-0) blow out the Rams in a
game that saw them lead 41-0 by intermission to set the
PIAA Mercy Rule’s running clock in motion the entire
second half. Stratton rushed for 133 yards on 12
carries. Bisons quarterback Christian Lezzer completed 5
of 6 passes for 80 yards and scored on a 1-yard run
while throwing a 47-yard TD pass to Trey Jordan.
ELK COUNTY
CATHOLIC 18, SHEFFIELD 0 SHEFFIELD — The Elk County
Crusaders bottled up Sheffield, limiting the Wolverines
to 95 yards of offense while forcing six turnovers in an
18-0 shutout win Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders (2-0) got touchdown
runs from Brock McCullough (10 yards), Joe McLaughlin (6
yards) and Ben Cortina (10 yards). McCullough led the Crusaders
running game with 77 yards on 11 carries. Hank Cappiello, Devin Constable and
Mitchell Vallone had interceptions for ECC.
CLAY-BATTELLE 26,
A-C VALLEY 13 BLACKSVILLE, W. Va. – Kevin Kaufman
threw for a touchdown pass and ran for a touchdown but
it wasn’t enough as visiting A-C Valley lost to
Clay-Battelle (W. Va.) 26-13 in an interstate matchup
Friday night. Kaufman was 12-for-30 for 146 yards
and the touchdown to go with an interception while
rushing 12 times for 58 yards and the score. He also
caught one pass for 15 yards. Justin Rothen had four
catches for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons
(0-2).
BRADFORD 28, OIL
CITY 27, 2 OTS BRADFORD – Justin Fishkin scored
twice in overtime, and the Bradford defense stopped an
Oil City two-point conversion pass in the second
overtime to get a 28-27 win over the visiting Oilers
Friday night at Parkway Field. The game, which was delayed almost
an hour and a half because of weather before the start
of the contest, proved to be worth the wait. The teams were tied at 15 at the
end of regulation after Oil City (0-2) blocked a Ty
Riley field goal in the closing seconds. Oil City then struck first in
overtime scoring on a 2-yard Kevin Daly run. The extra
point was wide left. Bradford (2-0) answered on a
Fishkin 7-yard run, but Riley missed the extra point
forcing a second extra session. In the second overtime, Fishkin put
the Owls ahead with another scoring run, and this time
Riley’s kick was true. But Oil City answered the score on
a fourth-and-goal 1-yard plunge by Daly. The Oilers then
decided to go for the win, but the Bradford defense
forced an incomplete pass from Oil City quarterback
Colton Cunningham, a Cranberry student playing in his
first year of the Oil City-Cranberry co-op after playing
for A-C Valley last year as a part of the Cranberry-A-C
Valley co-op. Matt Yurkewicz scored a pair of
touchdowns in regulation for Bradford, while Cunningham
threw a touchdown and ran for one in regulation for Oil
City. Nunzio Cavallero had a big
interception of Cunningham late in regulation as the
Oilers were threatening deep in Owl territory.
BROOKVILLE 22,
REDBANK VALLEY 13 NEW BETHLEHEM – Behind a pair of
Zach Vroman touchdown runs, Brookville bounced back from
a Week One defeat to top homestanding Redbank Valley
22-13 Friday night. Vroman ran 13 times for 105 yards
and scored on runs of three and five yards while also
throwing a two-point conversion pass that put the
Raiders (1-1) up 15-7 in the third quarter and causing
and recovering a fumble on defense in the fourth
quarter. Redbank Valley (0-2) had a chance
to tie the game early in the fourth quarter after
quarterback Jake Daugherty scored on a 7-yard run, but
failed on the two-point conversion pass. On the next
possession, Brookville went 65 yards on six plays
scoring when Cameron Yard hit Braiden Smith with a
25-yard touchdown pass. Yard did most of his damage on
the ground rushing 12 times for 55 yards. Brodie Zacherl added 68 yards
rushing for Brookville, while Daugherty was 12 of 19
passing for 98 yards and rushed 12 times for 52.
SMETHPORT 36,
JOHNSONBURG 20 SMETHPORT – Clay Schuler ran for
two touchdowns and threw for a third to give first-year
Smethport head coach Jim Berlin his first win in his
second try, 36-20 over visiting Johnsonburg, Friday
night. Schuler scored on runs of nine and two yards and threw a 33-yard scoring pass to Ryan Corbett. Karl Lightner also had a 2-yard touchdown run for the Hubbers (1-1), who led 29-6 at the end of three quarters, while Ryan Corbett contributed a safety and Ryan Stratton a 1-yard run. Schuler finished the night with 169 yards rushing and the two scores while also going 2-for-6 passing for 64 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Lightner rushed 12 times for 94 yards. Frank Kocjancic hooked up with
Mitchell Holmberg for three scoring passes for
Johnsonburg (0-2), including a pair on the fourth
quarter. Stratton, who ran nine times for 51
yards and the touchdown, led Smethport’s defense
with 13 tackles, including a sack, and an interception.
Jake Abrams added 11 stops, including a sack.
UNION 21,
PUNXSUTAWNEY 6 RIMERSBURG – Union outlasted both a
weather delay that took over an hour and a half and a
Punxsutawney team that was looking to go 2-0 to get a
21-6 win over the visiting Chucks Friday night in
Rimersburg. Kaden McGregor ran for a pair of
touchdowns, and Brody Shick picked off three
Punxsutawney passes to help the Golden Knights improve
to 2-0 on the year. McGregor, who ran 28 times for 191
yards, had touchdown runs of 82
and eight yards, and Cody Kline added 25-yard scoring
run for Union, while the Knights defense had four
interceptions in the game.
BROCKWAY 42,
OTTO-ELDRED 6 BROCKWAY — Alex Shaffer-Doane threw
three touchdown passes, and Chad Melillo ran for two
scores as the Brockway Rovers led 42-0 before halftime
and breezed to a 42-6 win over Otto-Eldred Friday night. Shaffer-Doane tossed a 24-yard pass
to Jacob Perrin, a 7-yarder to Anthony Benson and an
18-yarder to Brandon Morris. He completed 14 of 20
passes for 224 yards. Benson caught 7 passes for 144
yards. Melillo ran for the game's first
two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 3 yards. His 36 yards on
eight carries actually led the Rovers' running game. Otto-Eldred's lone score came on
Dakota Vaughn's 12-yard pass to Seth Bigley in the
fourth quarter. Vaughn rushed for 97 yards and completed
8 of 18 passes for 101 yards, but was intercepted twice. Brockway improved to 2-0 while
Otto-Eldred fell to 0-2.
COUDERSPORT 36,
RIDGWAY 13 RIDGWAY – Visiting Coudersport
scored 22 unanswered second-half points to beat Ridgway
36-13 Friday night. Ridgway (1-1) trailed by just a
point, 14-13, at the half after a late first-half
touchdown pass of four yards from Zac McKnight to Ben
McDonald, but Coudersport took control of the game with
a strong rushing attack in the second 24 minutes. A 20-yard touchdown run by Alex
Hershey on the Falcons first possession of the half set
the tone in the half, and Coudersport put an explanation
point on the win with a 13-play, 94-yard drive that
ended in a 1-yard Mitch Freeman touchdown run. In
between, Ethan Hite also scored on a 1-yard run for the
Falcons. Freeman ran 21 times for 140 yards
and two touchdowns to lead Coudersport, which rushed for
305 yards on the night including 60 on 12 carries from
Caden Whitman. Hite also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass
to Zac Elenchin. McKnight added an 85-yard kickoff
return on the game’s opening kickoff for Ridgway.
ST. MARYS 33,
KEYSTONE 7 ST. MARYS – St. Marys had three
runners break the 100-yard mark led by 138 yards and a
touchdown on 14 carries from Joe Luchini to claim its
first win of the year, 33-7, over visiting Keystone
Friday night. Alex Feldbauer added 116 yards and
two touchdowns on 20 carries, while Jordan Straub rushed
11 times for 103 yards helping the Dutch (1-1) gain 446
yards of offense including 367 on the ground.
Quarterback Alex Coudreit also scored on the ground and
threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Robbie Glass. Glass
had three grabs for 54 yards, while Coudriet was 4-for-6
passing for 79 yards. Josh Eberhart got Keystone on the
board late in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run.
Eberhart was 10 of 18 passing for 91 yards and an
interception while rushing 12 times for 50 yards.
DUBOIS 61,
FRANKLIN 21 DUBOIS – DuBois raced out to a 55-0
halftime lead and never looked back in gaining a 61-21
win over visiting Franklin in a District 10 Region 5
game Friday night at E.J. Mansell Stadium. Six of the Beavers eight first-half
touchdowns came in the final six minutes of the first
half including a pair of interception returns. That
totaled an amazing 41 points in five minutes for DuBois. Bryson Paulinellie led DuBois (2-0)
with five first-half touchdown catching three touchdown
passes, scoring on a touchdown run and also returning an
interception for a score. Gabe French tossed all three
scoring passes, while Ben Mayro, Shane Marshall and
Devin Clark had a touchdown runs and Austin Gahr an
interception return for a score for the Beavers. French
was 9 of 14 for 155 yards and the three touchdowns,
while backup Connor Stewart was a perfect 13 of 13 for
176 yards passing. Kyle Ritchey threw for 318 yards
and three touchdowns while tossing one interception in
relief for Franklin (0-2).
WARREN 83,
CLARION-LIMESTONE 12 WARREN – For the second straight
week, Clarion-Limestone got blown out falling 83-12 at
Warren Friday night in Warren. Warren led 21-0 at the end of the
first quarter and 49-12 at halftime before scoring 34
more points in the third quarter. And the fourth quarter
was just a six-minute quarter because of the score and
the threat of an incoming storm, the Warren
Times-Observer reported. It wasn’t all bad news for C-L, as
Christian Bakewell threw a pair of second-quarter
touchdown passes hooking up with Tommy Smith on an
18-yard connection and with Brent Slater on a 7-yarder.
Bakewell was a respectable 13 of 23 for 113 yards and
the two scores. Smith had four grabs for 73 yards and
the touchdown. According to the Times Observer,
Warren’s record for points in a game in the last 97
years was 104 in a 104-0 beating of Franklin in 1915.
The Dragons also scored 89 vs. Ridgway in 1923, 85
against Salamanca (N.Y.) in 1915 and 81 vs. Ludlow in
1921. According to ePaSports.com’s High
School Football History, the 83 points allowed are the
most ever by a Lions team surpassing the 63 allowed to
Clarion in 1986, and the 71-point loss is the worst in
school history surpassing three 57-point losses
including one to Clarion last week. |
